- When I first heard the original song with its African vibes, I thought, "It would be very interesting if I could recreate this on acoustic guitar," and immediately started to arrange it, but I couldn't come up with any good ideas and gave up halfway.
However, when I listened to the original song again a few months later, strangely enough, many more ideas came to me than before, and I was finally able to complete it!
It makes me wonder what was going on in my head during this period😃

I'm not religious but if there is a judgment day and we need to show evidence that humans were capable of pure beauty and joy, this should be exhibit A.
When talking about fingerstyle many people comment on Alip ba ta or Misko; however, it is clear that in relation to musicality, feeling in the soul the melodies and impressive techniques in reproducing the original song with precise details, Kent Nishimura is on another level.

When I listen to Kent play these songs often a tear comes to my eye. Much feeling comes from listening to the music he plays. All sorts of feelings.
This is literally one of the greatest songs ever written, by one of the greatest song writers of all time. By no means should anyone be able to tackle a cover, let alone on just acoustic guitars that embodies the original like this. It just doesn’t make sense how good you are. Can’t imagine the work that you have put in. You’re a master!
Agreed, sucks that he played this one just after a horrible breakup for me and I was listening to the original when sad and then Kent played it so now I can't help but associate it a bit with pain. I love it so much though lol.
The real genius in his composition is the low end rhythmic bass undertones. Such an incredible mind to create and play such mastery on the guitar.

I've been playing guitar almost 30 years- this guy is one of the best players I've ever heard/seen. IMO one's technique is only as great as their ability to use it creatively. Inspiring work Kent, thank you.
Wow. I'm in a deep depression and this arrangement has been hands down the highlight of my day. Like a genuine 5 minutes of true joy. This is truly magnificent. This arrangement is perfection.

Music can do that. If you do not play an instrument I SO very highly recommend that you learn.
Even just strumming chords - you get to FEEL the music in a completely different way. It reverberates your entire body, your entire SOUL.
MUSIC IS THE BEST.

I'm a huge Peter Gabriel fan, and obviously this is a fan favorite among so many- and for good reason. It has great rhythm, melody and fabulous lyrics. This is a remarkable cover in that all of the elements of the song are really conveyed here, even down to translating the emotional vibe of this. So incredibly beautiful, an arrangement so good I don't think Peter himself would object to singing over in an acoustic duet. You should be very proud of your efforts here Kent. ❤
I love this young man's covers. He avoids the flashy "Hey, look at me!" pyrotechnics that many others - also very talented - adopt that don't necessarily enhance the piece. Kent's covers are simple yet amazingly complex; he uses incredible arranging skills and technical abilities to faithfully, accurately and warmly reproduce all different voices of the song.
The incredible thing when listening to a Kent Nishimura cover is how true his pieces sound to the originals - guitar, voice, percussion, bass... and the listener is often unaware that he is accomplishing this in one track on his acoustic guitar, and the listener may not even be aware of how everything comes together simultaneously. It just sounds like the original, and it becomes easy to overlook what's going on behind the music.
It's a treat listening to this fellow, and I always enjoy when a new cover arrives at YT.

It’s notable that this is one of very few covers he’s done with multitracking. You can see he’s harmonizing in the upper right corner during the chorus. But I don’t say that to take anything away from your spot on observations of his musicianship or skill. Absolutely one of the very best.
Love your style so much. Not only do you play so many parts at once with great time, but each of the parts are full of awesome dynamics. You are my favorite fingerstyle guitarist out there. Keep it coming!
He plays every part almost! The guy is truly a one man band.....ON 1 INSTRUMENT!!!! It's baffling sometimes even to someone who's been playing for over 40 years!

@@NorwegianUke I tell people stuff like this can't be taught! It's either in you or it's not. Sure you gotta put in the time, but no one can teach you this kind of intuitive rhythm and intonation! He's pretty much flawless when you really pay attention! If I hadn't spent the last 35 years getting good enough that I can actually see and hear where every note and sound is coming from, I don't think I would appreciate it as much as I do!!!! I think I could play another 35 and still not be as perfect and beautifully sounding as this YOUNG man!!!! SHEESH!!!!

Kent, you are so, so talented, I can’t imagine the hours you must spend figuring out the arrangement for these songs. And once figured out, the hours of practicing prior to recording the videos. You make it look so effortless however that’s due to the hours you have committed to each of these songs. Us UA-cam followers are spoiled to see and hear your performances. Please keep posting your creations so that we can all continue to enjoy the music that you are sharing. This is simply beautiful guitar playing. Apart from Kent's incredible technical brilliance, it's hard to imagine how many hours / years he would have practiced to get such emotion and sensitivity into his playing. It's seamless and simply brilliant!

This process of the long-term (subliminal) brain, of being able to work things out after putting a very difficult problem aside for a while and returning to it later, is a known phenomena. It was also a method that Bertrand Russel talked about. Glad it worked for you.

But Kent, your videos are so inspiring, but also so touching, that they make me want to be better so much that I power through those negative instincts, and actually start to believe it's possible. Love this guys playing of course. Beyond simply enjoying it, I like to learn new arrangements for my own playing. The challenge with this musician is he always uses unique and very unusual tunings, and always different. They can be cumbersome to set up back and forth all the time. Other than that, he's by far the most mature instrumental cover guitarist out there in my opinion! Bravo!

This is basically what I wanted to do with my life...but I didn't have the devotion to one thing that Kent obviously does. I had too many other interests...plus too many people said there is no future in music; the "starving musician" stereotype deterred me. Hearing Kent reminds me of what I could have chosen for my life.
I'm very much a music snob. And there is nothing lacking/deficient here. I do not often say that.
I commend you on your devotion and hard work, Kent. Obviously innate talent, but you didn't do anything for that. You have, however, taken that talent and honed the blade of your craft.
