I think Portugal is an underdog at this point. Sweden isn't an underdog but I'm not gonna lie... I think they' could win. The way that the points system is set up winning the jury or televote isn't the key path to winning it ALL.

BQL won by 5000votes against omar..They have something more tham 13.000 votes in final al other acts together have 17.000 soo. pls listen to BQL-Heart of gold :) this years slovenia people winner. not omar the jury winner. and i think with BQL we coud be in top 10 maybe even in top 5

Maxime Dao It's gonna kill it live. In our national finals her song wasn't the best, but her vocals were by far. The revamp has given the song the power it needed so as long as the staging is right and she sings the same as she did in our national finals, it should do well... (Watch as we still get 24th)
@Alesia I mean it's not an amazing song compared to a few others in the competition, but it's probably like the best UK song in like 15 years, not that that's saying anything much lol. For me it's more like "lol the UK sending a breakup song that works as a Brexit metaphor, how original" yeah not my favorite, but it might make it to the top half of the final depending on who it's up against. Like out of the Big Five + Ukraine it's probably like 3rd or 4th depending on what you think of Ukraine's song. Great video, I'm glad to see Portugal getting some love!
@Daniel *yawn* If there's a single song the UK has put out since Katrina and the Waves that actually deserves to make it to the top half of the Eurovision it's this one. That doesn't make it amazing, just orders of magnitude less abysmal than everything else. My point isn't so much to hate on the song which again, it's alright, it's more that the cliché of British Eurofans blaming politics for not getting any points got old like 10 years ago (as did pretty much every other Europe-related grievance). At the very most there was that one year after the Iraq War, and even that's very questionable since half of Europe went to Iraq as well, but after that it was literally that the songs were either tailored to a niche British audience or just Bad.

I think Verona will get at least top 10. With improved vocals top 5 is possible. Secondly, you said Italy aren't going to win, but who could realistically do it in his place? I don't see any other contenders.
I think there is a pretty good chance of a repeat of 2015 with Il Volo. Francesco wins the the televote but doesn't do too well with the jury. If Belgium nails it live, it might win the Jury vote and also get like 2nd or 3rd place in the televote but still pull of a win. You can replace Belgium with Sweden, Azerbajian ect.
I disagree with you on Finland and Ireland. I suppose both songs can be labelled as boring ballads, but for me Ireland is the boring one whereas I really like Finland.
Finland may not be the best song out there but at least she's singing about an actual real human experience. Then again maybe that's why I have more trouble relating to Ireland's song - she's singing about the aftermath of a relationship, whereas he's singing about having to take cold showers to preserve himself for marriage or something. To be honest I zoned out after the third line, Hozier having couple troubles with a woman in the clip was more interesting to me.
To be honest, I didn't think this was going to be an in-depth look, but as the songs progressed I could tell then you really had given them a lot of attention. It was fascinating to hear a non-European perspective. I completely agree with you on some points. Your description of the UK video rather sums up that country's approach to the contest, sadly. I honestly don't get Sweden either like Loreen was amazing, De Vet Du was... not my thing but it might have worked as a joke entry, Jon Henrik would have at least sounded different to every other song Sweden is churning out these days, but this guy for me is just too fucking generic and I honestly wouldn't have even remembered what it sounded like if there hadn't been "Fuckgate".
