I find this is a true masterpiece! What opera is all about. No one leaved the theater untouched. Exactly what humanity needs at this time. Listened to all radio broadcasts and it’s marvelous how well it conveys.
Great cast of soloist and very well sung. Am I impressed with this opera? Sorry to say no. When I listen to it, I find it very boring. Maybe if I see it live I would change my mind but, seriously I doubt it. Anyways, I love opera but, just not this one.
I believe the main virtue of this opera is that it seems the work of someone who knows how to write for the stage, whether one responds or not to the idiom.
Oh, my. I knew it. They simply do not know what to do. This is a mess, The Emperor's New Clothes. And, opera singers are too silly to say, "NO!" I get it; seems as if after Strauss there was no place to go. I cannot believe audiences don't walk out and demand money back. Dreadful. Dreadful. HOWEVER, because of you wonderful posting I got to hear a bit and decide. Thanks so much!
From my listening experience of the contemporary operas given in the last decade or so, I truly believe this is one of the better efforts where form, music and text converge to create a coesive entity. Whether one responds or not to the style, it's a different aspect as you pointed out in your comment. I can think of some other works where I couldn't take anything from the music. Thank you.
For me one of the most beautiful contemporary operas in years. Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
I appreciate these performances you give us.
