We decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 13 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

Hello Bruce, I know you had a bit of travel to see your friends. Just wanted to let you know that every evening the wife and I would look to see if you had posted a new video. We enjoy your show very much and always anticipate the next video since we wonder what you’re going to build next. Be encouraged by the fact that you have fans of your show. David and Lillian in Oklahoma U.S.A.
That’s lovely to hear. Thanks for saying that. Definitely motivates me to make more vids
Soon Off-Grid Spinning Elsie will be giving Bruce a run for his UA-cam money! So happy that she got her wheel. 🎉 Happy Birthday, Bruce!! 🎉
Totally! Thanks 🙏
Delighted Elsie has gotten her spinning wheel!!
Me too. Been a long time coming
So happy to see her get the wheel. I can’t wait to see her use it. Fantastic job on the coop.
Thanks Jodie

It was good of the family to gift you a trip, hope you enjoyed your Birthday you deserved a break after all your hard work this year.
Thanks David
Happy Birthday, Bruce! 🎉🎊🎊Well done, Annie! Congratulations Elsie on scoring a spinning wheel! Wonderful! So good to see all that you share.
Thank you so much!!
Hey Bruce and lovely family,
hope you are feeling better! Your videos are very interesting and inspiring and one of the few ones I am really looking out for on UA-cam! Love how you go about things! Hope you find a way to handle this in a way that makes you happy. And glad you took time off.
Love how the longterm parts of your homestead come along!
It was a great week this week seeing things taking shape outside and the weather being good helps too. I would be great if the UA-cam could be my full time income
Hi Bruce, fantastic vlog, 👏 glad you got your little break away with your friends, the spinning wheel is beautiful 😍 , your girls are lovely, love seeing Annie in the hammock drinking coffee and giving you cheek!!!!all the best have a fantastic week
Annies always giving me cheek 😂
Hey dude, if you did a video every fortnight we'd understand, we know the family and the farm 🚜 are there as well 😂
Thanks Connor
Remember carding the wool and feeding it to the spinning machine late 50s
Elsie is mad into her wool work and anything textiles related
Nice to see ya back mate...look after yaself
Thanks, will do! :)
I wouldn’t take my camera to a getaway either. Nothing worse then running a getaway with the feeling that you have to do something you don’t want to do. Hope you had a great time.
I had a great time :)
Chicken coop is looking good! The spinning wheel is lovely 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! 😊
Delighted Elsie found a spinning wheel , can’t wait to see what she creates with it :) Happy Birthday and hope you are feeling better fast
Thanks April. You definitely played a major part in her achieving that dream 🙏
Delighted to se Elsie’s spinning wheel. Used to help my Grandma with the wool when I was a child look after yourself, west of Ireland (WOI) man flu can take its toll😂
😂 I’m on the mend now
Yay for the poly-tunnel. Everything looks fab!!!
Bruce, your vids are ALWAYS great! Has to be hard to constantly crank them out. Breaks are deserved! I see that a couple of other vloggers I follow, like Daniel, whom you know, and Eva Zu Beck, the traveler, and Gil, a builder in Alaska, are taking breaks. Miss them, but you all have to do what’s best for you and the family! Great job as always! Things are lookin’ great!
It can definitely burn you out a little. I think if I didn’t take a break the quality woods just go down and down and make me want to quit. Glad to be back now though
Love all the veg in the pollytunnell Bruce, and the mobile chicken coup will be great when finished. 😊
Thanks David :)
Always amazed how you can make something so amazing out of what you have around. Love the coop!
Thank you
Everybody needs a break every once and a while.
Everything takes 3-4 times longer when filming so impressive what you film anyway.
Thanks. It definitely adds a fair bit of extra work
Do you guys grow Jerusalem Artichokes? They are soooooo easy to grow and probably my fav perennial vegetables that we grow! Great self sufficiency food AND great flavour 💚 We always look forward to your vids each week - such happy, easy watching to snuggly up with at the end of a busy day 🙏✌🌿
Yes we did grow some and I liked the taste but wow they wrecked my stomach for a good couple of days.
@@OffGridBruce 🤣 You do get more used to them the more you eat I find ... also peeling them (I don't normallly peel any veg) and cooking them really well - roasted until they are caramalising is my fav, or in fritters, like we just had for our lunch 😋 ✌🌿
Hopefully your surviving the deadly disease Bruce, thankfully being the only male no one else will be at any risk 😁. Always enjoy following you on your lovely life journey.
Haha 😂 I’m on the mend now
Your family is awesome. So resilient and creative. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you 😊
Hi Bruce, all work and no play...Love the channel and what you are doing. You have great skills and knowledge. Thanks for sharing for us. All the best to you and your family.

Love love your videos..all the way out here from Tennessee USA..
It’s always cool to hear where people are watching
Great video! Looks like Taunton Deane Kale. We've got it growing in our gardens, one of our favorites! :D Greetings from Roscommon!
Looking forward to eating it :)
Delighted you had vid this week, always interested to see what you guys up to.
Thanks Bernadette :)
Happy Birthday! Inspiring family, keep up the great work. ❤
Thank you! Philippa :)
Glad you're back.
Me too :)
So excited for Elsie! Missed you last week, but glad you took time to recuperate. Love seeing the Veg growing.
It’s exciting this time of year. Everything seems to be waking up for spring :)
good luck with the spinning wheel!
Thanks!
Good for you!!! Happy Birthday 🥳
Thank you!!
Where in Suffolk did you go? We’re flying over to England in June and will be staying in Mildenhall with relatives. Excited to see everyone but truly nervous about the 9 hour flight over the pond. Eek ! Hope you’re feeling better.
Newbourne was where I lived before :) hope you had a nice time and the flight wasn’t too much
What a beautiful garden! My plants are only about 4” tall so far. A late freeze caused me to have to replant my purple hull peas. I put in around 700 corn and the same amount of peas in my big garden. My squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers are in above ground gardens to make for easier weeding. Homesteading is a lot of work, and I’m thrilled when you are able to get out a video. Don’t stress if you can’t get one out every week. If it becomes too much of a burden, you will lose that joy that shines through and is what caused me to subscribe in the first place. Happy Easter!
Thanks Joanna. For the most part I manage well. I struggle if I become overwhelmed but the break has done me the world of good
Happy birthday Bruce 🎉
Thank you 🙏
Great Vlog Bruce I 100% get that all the filming and particularly the editing must get you down at times so I guess when it happens take short breaks to keep you motivated. Quick question I note you have a Dewalt Nail Gun I am looking to buy a Nail Gun how do you rate the Dewalt? Have a great week, I wish I had the time to come over and give you a push on with the upstairs....my kind of project but sadly not possible right now....big projects like that often need 2 people to keep the motivation up and ease the workload. Many thanks
I am borrowing the gun from a friend. It’s awesome. Definitely speeds things up. Thanks for the offer of help
Love the chicken coop Bruce. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
You and me both :)
hi bruce you need to slow down mate if you burn yourself out which you will do you wont like that the feeling is not nice belive so you need to slow down yes do your work but at your pace good luck and remeber take your time work can be done but at your pace
Thanks Toni, I think the vlog was taking its toll a bit. It’s a fair bit of work and I have had a fair bit to do behind the scenes. What I really need is for UA-cam to pay me a bit more then I can do it full time :)
21 mins in lovely tune whats it called. reminds me of Don Mclean Castle in the air
I’m not sure I’ll have to see what I used. I love picking the music
I could propel a small car just by eating purple sprouting broccoli 💨😶
Lol it could be the future of transport
Hi Bruce, enjoying following your journey. Where a-bouts in Suffolk did you go? I live just outside Aldeburgh. Getting busier here now. I do fancy western Ireland 👍
Newbourne is where I used to live not far from Woodbridge
@@OffGridBruce Thanks Bruce, I know it quite well. A very unique history with all th plots and greenhouses as I am sure you know. Kind regards and thanks for the reply. 😀
Beware of the Kiwi Bruce/Annie 🥝 if it survives, it may take over your tunnel 🌱
Some hard pruning? Hve you got one?
@@OffGridBruce not anymore 😂 don’t give up on it, it might work for you 🌱
Do you guys know what chicken breed your getting?
We are getting a mix to trial what works best for the future
How do you make the tree face north?
Just have the prominent growth pointing north as it will want to grow south
