People choose what their versions of history to fit their worldview and values. If you pull out of article on the internet to prove one thing, others can pull out probably others to prove others. There is some truth to what he's saying, actually. There is a lot of coincidence between the phonetic repertoire of European Portuguese and Russian. Both languages tend towards the iotization of some vowels (as in "день" [day]; /dʲenʲ/); both of them make extensive use of the close central unrounded vowel phoneme ("ɨ" in the IPA; "ы" in Russian; present in a word such as "dente" ["tooth"] in European Portuguese, pronounced /'dẽ.tɨ/), which is extremely rare in Indo-European languages; both languages also use alveolo-palatal fricatives a lot, such as the letters "ш", "щ", "ж" in Russian and the plurals in "-s" in Portuguese, which are almost always pronounced as "-sh", as in "ideias" [ideas]: /i.ˈðɐj.ɐʃ/; finally, both have a tendency towards treating many different unstressed vowels as schwas.

    • @henriquemendes7938
      @henriquemendes7938 4 роки тому +3

      Of course, all this only applies to European Portuguese, which sounds completely different from Brazilian Portuguese. The main dialects of Brazilian Portuguese show almost none of the characteristics I described above (except for the "-sh" plurals in Rio de Janeiro and some specific regions in Northeastern Brazil).
