Horse owner here keep some of the mats ( maybe two stalls worth) as they are good for stopping cold coming up from the concrete floor, but put the rest on FB Market place and earn some money from them. Another horse tip is cover your water trough with a wooden top and then put a bucket size hole( head size ?) in the top the animals will drink through the hole stops the water turning greed and keeps it cleaner, If you can get some gutters on your barn and put in a rain water system for your middle barn. And for the future put some solar panels on the roof of the barn and it has its own electric which you can use as and when you need to.
I agree that exchanging 20 minutes of work to save $500 is time well spent. I'm sure that as you get accustomed to working on the farm you will discover many time and money saving tricks to be more productive and efficient. Happy to see that you are planning your strategies for improvement. You rock!
The electric fence around the meat birds is a great idea as you have not lived there long enough to see what all will dig or try and get to them, Barrels is the way to go keeps even mice & rat dropping out, You are a hard worker an I love how you explain every thing great video s thank s
Hey Jason, why not make a rat wire, or hardware cloth wire cage around the feed bag. Something that has hinges on it on top and the middle back so you can open it up easily to put around each new feed tote bag you aquire. That's what I'd do so you don't have to shovel all of that into barrels!😊😊
Great video! I was snapping my fingers with the intro music! Put the rubber mats in your shop for standing on while you're working. Concrete is hard on your legs and the mats will help.
I definitely wanted to watch this because I have a problem with raccoons and opossums. I used to have a rats and mice problem until I got outside cats. They took care of that, along with the squirrels that were eating my plants. Buying that tote of feed was definitely worth the money you saved vs. the extra work. And I'm glad to find somebody that uses organic feed.
I love that barn, and it starting to look like you are getting things organized and figuring out how you will use it. I was wondering if you are considering keeping a stall or two open for animals in the future. Maybe baby pigs in the winter, or a cow about to have a calf, really bad winter storm, etc....
You crack me up! I'm not a farmer/homesteader in any way, shape, or form, but I believe I would worry just like you worry about everything! For me, it's because I'm somewhat of a perfectionist! I like to do it the very best way the very first time! I am sure I keep up with your channel because you're a great planner and seem to always do things well the very first time! I enjoy seeing the fruits of your labor. Your old farm was a beautiful farm from all your hard work and devotion. I am enjoying the transformation of your new farm and am sure it will be a farm of pure beauty! You ALL work so hard at everything, it's a joy to see! Keep on farmin'! 🤠👩🌾👩🌾❤️🐖🐐🐄🐓🦆🦃🐓🐥🐝🐞🌱🌾🌝
We bought our meat bird feed in individual bags this year, mainly because we were worried about storage as well. We don’t have a barn or garage of any sort on the homestead yet. We are going to look into a big tote for next year for sure though! Hope y’all have a great day!-Ryan & Cara
Hey! I’ve never been so early before 😋. Enjoyable video as usual. I think timing the filling of the barrels was genius. We often overestimate the time it takes to do something we don’t want to do. I learned using that trick from Atomic Habits book.
A farmer friend of mine uses a 3 ton gravity wagon and buys his feed in bulk as well. A semi will come to his farm with a chute and load it for him. He covers it tightly with a vinyl tarp and has never had any spoilage. I know you don't have a tractor to move a wagon around but maybe the truck can move it with the right hitch. Great content as usual, greetings from Minnesota.
We’ve had amazing success with our “Claw Crew” barn cats taking care of smaller pests. Probably easier to shore up the barn so the bigger critters can’t gain access. Your barrel system is spot on though. We use steel trash cans too. Gotta protect ur birds bud, don’t wanna go thru all that work to feed the wildlife eh. 😊 🍻
so much more land the previous property and even though all the things that might be needed for easier maintenance to the property may not be affordable at this point. hopefully there's a plan being put in place for future expansion of the 14 acres. good luck Sow the Land. I do believe that you all can do this and there's so many people looking forward to and encouraging your success.
Yo Jason, I just want to let you know that your videos/vibes/occasional lil sayings, help me maintain a positive outlook on my lil homestead. Projects just stack and stack and it can be easy to be discouraged. I’ll take a break for lunch after working all morning and see a video of yours and it’s like a proverbial cup of coffee. And I know the videos don’t show every hardship and rough time but it’s just a nice treat to see a solid family like y’all have built, succeeding. Anyways, imma buy a shirt sometime to pay it back some way and to rep the cause 💪 much love from Texas, hope you see this. Oh and one more thing. You said a few videos ago that there will be those mornings where you don’t want to get up, and “it’s ok….but you got to” and I’ll be damned if I don’t. That $hit stuck with me homie. Peace
We only have 20 meat birds but I agree totally with you Jason to do whatever we can to protect our home grown food. Might take some wire fencing and put around one section of the blackberries for you all and let the deer have the rest. Y'all have a great week and God Bless.
I ALSO appreciate your and your family. I look forward to hearing from you soon. That didn't take too long. Hopefully,, you put the $500.00 away for the 🚜. I love the names you picked for the animals. How are the pigs❓ BLESS Momorial weekend. From S E.Michigan 🀄🀄🀄
Jason you are a busy man. Nice to have your feed safe in the barrels. The area where you stored the barrels looks so nice e now that it is organized. Great job! The horse mats could be something to put on floor of your wood shop area, they are great for cushioning the floor where you spend so much time.
That’s a good work out. Can’t imagine what organic feed coast right now. The price of feed has doubled and it’s starting to make me want to get rid of all my animals……. Not really but I’ve thought about it 😂.
Hey Jason and Lorraine! We bought our 14 acres pretty much the same time you guys did. You have been an inspiration to us over the years! Looking forward to meeting you at HOA conference in Front Royal this year.
Jason, Trash panda's (raccoons) are a royal pain the butt. They love bird feeders, critter feed, trash cans, eggs, and chickens. We use cinder blocks to weight down our lids, and the blocks work real good. We also use bungee cords on totes.
Great inspiration video, Jason. Love your approach to troubleshooting. Hope the garden is growing well. You may need a temporary electric fence around that, too! May I suggest sensor lights around and in your central future feed barn? You can get rechargeable units and solar chargeable lights. No need to hook up to electric, and they last a good length of time. Doubles up as security lights as well. Did you see Russ Wilson’s video on a smaller water trough for cows? He popped in a ball valve system at very affordable cost. A few dollars. Also, Greg Judy (and Russ) have videos showing how to place portable troughs half way under the electric wire leaving just enough room for one/two heads to drink without getting zapped. Stops smaller beefs/calves from standing in it or reaching towards the ball valve side.
Every barn needs a cat 🐈 or two!
Those rubber mats will be wonderful in your wood working shop. They will save your legs and back!
Don’t you just love when a long dreaded task turns out to be way better than you expected
You can mow the blackberries down after the harvest. They will come back every spring.
Wowzer Jason, take time and relax a bit as burnout will STRIKE..0oooo
Don,t want to lose you xxxx such a joy xxx

I was expecting about 15 minutes per barrel! But WOW under 3 minutes is killer. I absolutely love seeing how your farm is expanding.
It takes me by surprise every time I hear you say, hi Bernice. :) That’s my name and you don’t hear it much ever. Lol
You do what you have to do to give yourself peace of mind. That is priceless.
There’s an easy plastic hand held clip tool for moving those mats much easier-I’m a 77yr old woman and do it that way.
You can also use a dead freezer to keep feed in. It keeps it dry and pest free.
If you have a stack of those rubber Matts, that would be awesome to kill weeds off for your next garden plot!!
Thank you for your careful homesteading. You all have such a love and respect for your animals. Thank you.
Love the way your barn is coming along. What a blessing.
Your a hard worker Jason !
Oh yeah those critters are opportunistic! Free food is like winning the lottery for them! Lol 😆
Those Rubber Mats are Phenomenal for killing out grass and weeds!
the savings you are getting will all add up in the end!!
Great idea to install the electric net around your meat birds. For sure it’s going to help keep predictors out!
Great video! I was snapping my fingers with the intro music! Put the rubber mats in your shop for standing on while you're working. Concrete is hard on your legs and the mats will help.

It’s good that you are being extra vigilant on the new farm. Raccoons, possums, hawks and coyotes all love chickens.
Those Beefy Boys know who gives them their dinner! They follow you!
eat those bandits 😅
I love that barn, and it starting to look like you are getting things organized and figuring out how you will use it. Great stuff Jason!
Sometimes we just need to start a project and the rest falls into place. Love that you saved 500.
That barn is awesome, wish we had an old barn like that on our homestead!

I always enjoy your videos. They make my day. Thank you ^_^
Jason, make a hardware cloth " cage" to go over the big bag of feed.
critters are tricky but blackberries!! woo hoo!!! sell that jam!!! hard to find these days...
Why is it satisfying to see the barrels filled up with feed haha
Great job Jason!
Wear long sleeves when you pick your blackberries-a voice of experience!!
Blessings to you!!

Save $500, Yea, I think it’s worth it 👍👍
Fantastic Jason & such a great video. Cheers Denise- Australia
Good job Jason 👍🐓🐓🐓🐓With Chicken 🐔 feed
So glad you pushed through and stored your food. Saving you a headache and money down the road.
Hey! I’ve never been so early before 😋.

Glad you were able to find a good storage solution for the grain, the night raiders are going to be disappointed 😄👍💕💕💕

We finally got rain in Holly Ridge, NC.

Amen brother! Don't get caught slippin'!
Thanks for sharing your busy tasks with us! Great progress! 🤗❤️🇨🇦
Good job! You did it! And absolutely worth the $500 savings in exchange for what, less than than 20 mins of your time?? 🙌👍
You are doing a great job! Thanks for sharing!

thanks Tristan, means a lot. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your humble way of sharing- I look forward to it!
Great work Jason and family 😃👍🏼❤️
Big Red Broilers look GREAT!!! I think they'll be ready soon.
Raise the beefy boys water up on a pallet . Love your videos ✌️❤️

You did it, so there!👍🏼🫶🏻
You mite want to use LED lights which would be brighter. Love watching you and the family on your journey fixing up your new farm.
You could look into getting a feed bin/silo and see if you can get delivery of feed straight into the bin.
Ughh...now I need to go out and put the feed away! Thanks for the reminder, I guess.
Very good video. I watched it over and over. Killer editing.
You da man. The blocks should work. Love you guys.
Good video Jason! you gotta protect the feed!
Now all the feed will go where you want it to... THE MEATBALLS! 🥰🐢🥰
U guys made a great choice in buying this property. As u adjust the Land, u will have amazing success.
I ALSO appreciate your and your family. I look forward to hearing from you soon. That didn't
take too long. Hopefully,, you put the $500.00

I love your Beefy Boys. How are the Kune Kune pigs doing?? Bravo, you got the barrels filled. 💞
Thanks so much for sharing your day! Love your videos, you're a hard worker! Sending love from Northumberland, England xx
Great job Jason!!!
Your transportation thrue long barn rocks 🛹 , 👍😁
Blackberry pie…..yum yum
Good job love your channel Ontario Canada
Put a flap over the water tub like you did with the mineral tray.
Dinner looked yummy.
Great Job trusting your gut. Thank you for sharing

Love your new place.
Watching you do farm chores is so relaxing for me. I lived in a house on my brother's horse farm before my marriage ended. I miss it SO much!
That's how we protect our food from the varmints. And I got the idea from you 😁
That’s a good work out. Can’t imagine what organic feed coast right now. The price of feed has doubled and it’s starting to make me want to get rid of all my animals……. Not really but I’ve thought about it 😂.
Always loooove your videos.
Those Rubber Mats are also good for killing off grass and weeds for Gardening ZONES:)
Hey Jason and Lorraine! We bought our 14 acres pretty much the same time you guys did. You have been an inspiration to us over the years! Looking forward to meeting you at HOA conference in Front Royal this year.
Great video Jason 👍
I think you are doing amazing, it was good to get the feed in the barrels I’m sure!
Your videos are a wonderful mix of doing and talking👏🏻👏🏻
You should create a wire frame around the feed to protect it from critter & avoid filling up the barrel.
I love Taco bowls! Thank you for sharing...
Jason, Trash panda's (raccoons) are a royal pain the butt. They love bird feeders, critter feed, trash cans, eggs, and chickens. We use cinder blocks to weight down our lids, and the blocks work real good. We also use bungee cords on totes.
Doing awesome love you guys learning stuff from you thanks
I picked blackberries yesterday: we also have a berry called “wine berries” here, and they will give us even more harvest.
You are being a good steward of what the Lord has provided. You’re getting the new farm looking good, little by little.
Sell the rubber mats which will pay for more feed.
Great inspiration video, Jason. Love your approach to troubleshooting. Hope the garden is growing well. You may need a temporary electric fence around that, too!

Raccoon, Opossum, and Ground Hogs ALL love peanut butter slathered into a slice of celery! Great treat to put into traps!
Not having a tractor really keeps it relatable for me personally but probably others as well. $500 in savings is huge!
have a great day. enjoyed the video
Really it don't take that long i do it the same way just d0 it don't think about it
