This was so great to watch! I discovered the Pitt Artist pens thanks to you and they are my holy grail 🙌
Oh YAY! I am so glad you love them too :)
Fantastic! Will look for your book - good to know. Also, could you include a 'before / after' shot at the end? Nice and helpful to really SEE the differences the shadowing made. Much thanks.
Thanks Ann - let me see if I can put something on my blog and I will link to it.
Hello Taria, I just discovered your channel this morning and joined immediately after watching a few of your videos. I like your vision and the way in which you explain. Can you please tell me what that pen you used for shadows on the window at 7:52 in your video?
I think it would be such a useful pen. Thank you from Ottawa Canada 🇨🇦 ❤❤
This is very helpful, you have a gift for discerning exactly what I need to hear to be a better artist. I’ve watched some of your videos three or four times. The house where you put the paint down before the line work is brilliant. I also like that you refer to other artists you like, for example John Harrison. I learn from the others but it doesn’t keep me from coming back to you.
Aw thanks Richard!! So happy to hear that :D
Hi! This video is very helpful, thank you a lot!
I was wondering... have you have tried Sakura micron brush pens in grey (there are 2different shades) to add shadows?
If your gel pen gives you problems, put it a few minutes in hot water 😊
The Dunedin Train Station is beautiful. Around a 20+ minutes walk from where I live. Beautiful sketch! The facade is being refurbished for a few years now.
No depth, no contrast…ha! Believe me if I could ever produce a sketch like that I’d be skipping for joy!
I am very happy to meet your channel because I learned good and useful things. I hope you shine with millions of subscribers.
Thank you for this video. I will definitely use your tips to enhance my drawings more. Looks great.
Incredible difference just adding all the shadows. Thanks so much for this.
Excellent!! Great detail & colors! Only thought was that the light pole needs a long shadow across the lawn and the bench shadows need to be further to the right to match other shadow angles. 👍🏻
Nice. Shadows are so important! My white gel pens are fickle, too.
Very good tip! Actually I have these brush pens bought about a year ago and never used them!
Why warm greys over cool ones? How do you know which to use?
Great video, great tips! Thanks
This is great, Taria! I'm with you about gel pens. They more often don't work for me! But, they definitely helped here as did the Pitt Pens.
Congrats on your Book! McMillan is certainly well-known!
Thanks Mary! Glad you're in the unreliable gel pen club with me, ha ha.
So gorgeous ❤ I love the building and painting
Thank you so much. What a building hey? I am envious of the people living in Dunedin getting to see it every day :)
The very intricate sketch has definitely improved. For activating a reluctant white gel pen, "write" (stroke the nib) lightly accross your finger tip until it works again. Does the trick for me every time. Btw. I store my gel pens lying horizontally but not sure if it is necessary.
TOP TIPS Chrissie!! Thank you so much, I shall try that!
Yes! I love the depth that the shadows created!
Thanks Karen!
The added shadows definitely helped in several ways. It made parts of the building stand out and it made the building look much more realistic.I would have added a long shadow for the light pole as well. The construction area could have been enhanced adding some building color behind the poles. All told a very good sketch that took some work to finish. I like it. -OkieSketcher1949
Love it 😊😊😊
Thanks Andreea!
Wow! I am just starting to recognize the need , and the placement, of shadows in my work. This video, and your narrative, is very helpful. Thank you.
So happy it was helpful Chris!
The touches you just added did indeed enhance the original sketch. I will be on the lookout for similar "flat" areas in my art work! Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching Vivian, glad it was useful!
This is a perfect example of shadows making all the difference, sometimes you just have to go bold! Looks great ❤
Thank you Kim!
