Thank you - I'm an Italian American artist (oil painter) and have been so intrigued by my family transition to America - both physically, culturally, artistically (because they were master craftsmen) and even spiritually . This video helped add color to my understanding of the stories that have been passed down from that time.

I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it! I want people to be able to truly connect with their ancestry and the stories of the people in their past. If there are any topics you'd be interested in specifically, please let me know! I have a lot of videos coming related to Italian ancestry and immigration history

I don’t think we should ever forget the determination of our ancestors. They had the spirit of Vikings. They weren’t afraid to take unknown risk and of the struggle to better themselves and their families. We should understand that this was in their DNA and also is in ours. The ones who were afraid stayed behind, played it safe and suffered in poverty.

@@agerard5703 many of the ones that stayed behind certainly had a very difficult experience but it’s debatable which decision was better in the long run now that we’re several generations down the line lol

Grazie di condividere :). I’m pretty sure you described the circumstances of not just my family story. An aspect being Southern Italian is the older generation speaking dialect, I can understand it but it’s hard for me to respond in Neapolitan or Sicilian. Because “unified” Italy was a new concept for them, they still spoke the dialect since they weren’t speaking to anyone from other regions, due to the circumstances.
Also, many of my family members moved to Milan for economic opportunities which essentially is a different country. Italian American food is Southern Italian food. I have a question, have you noticed in Calabria, people putting bracciole and fusilli on the same plate?

@ never, unless it were a carbonara or ragù of some sort. But who knows! Just because I’ve never seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist I guess lol

I’ve known for a long time that my grandfathers Calabrian village wasn’t so quaint in the early 1900’s but as I learn more about the region I’m shocked to find not much has changed in 100 years. It makes me great full for the opportunity he created by taking a leap of faith. I can’t wait to visit his village and walk in the footsteps of my distant ancestors.
