I had this exact problem, and knew ropes and knots were the answer. I ended up wrapping the whole mattress in rope and put lots of alpine butterfly loops in everywhere for hand holds. Yours is a bit involved to setup, but really neat, simple and effective. Well worth the time to setup. Lovely solution!
There are so many knot videos I have lost count. I love to learn about different knots and their names but I have always found myself wondering where would I use this or that knot. What sets you apart is the practical applications for everyday uses. Very creative, inspiring, and usable around the house. Really appreciate all the work you put into your videos. They are short, to-the-point and well produced. I predict 100k subscribers in the not-to-distant future!
Good stuff. I always learn something and practice with 2 lines of rope here at my desk. Ps. Your daughter is quite the cutie, you must be proud. Thanks.
DIY FOREARM FORKLIFTS, I remember seeing a commercial on T.V. selling them and I'm glad to know I can throw a pair together for free now, Thank You and Merry Christmas
I got a forearm forklift after seeing a random promo on YT for them. I was so impressed by this 2 minute promo. Bought off eBay for like $4. Not sure what the webbing is rated at but they work a treat for fridges, mattresses, anything big and bulky (but not super heavy). Wouldn't be too hard to make yourself from truck strapping and a sewing machine. Or use a rope! Love the use of the towels.
@@IsaacMeyerMN it worked for my cousin. She was asked to mow the lawn. After she mowed down about three corn rows and ran out of gas, I had to mow the lawn from that point on. Her brothers told her she was stupid. Her reply was, I don't have to mow the lawn anymore so how stupid is that?
Nice. Love the top camera angle to the stairs. I probably would have done a double fisherman's 😅 but admit yours would be faster to tie. Love not just how to tie the knots but the applications. Build relevance. Thx!
I found just one rope, tied in a huge loop, with two 6" PVC pipes included in the loop for handles.. running the same X lifting point and keeping the handles low.. allows one hand on the handle, and the other hand on the top of the mattress guiding it through the turns, cheers! 🥂
Once upon a time, I worked at a thrift store. Every day, we had customers who insisted that we were obligated to help them load and tie down their purchases. The store had a firm rule about that: NO! YOU BOUGHT IT! IT IS YOURS! AND IT IS YOUR PROBLEM! The store's owners had no wish to face any liability claims. So, we had to watch some of the sketchiest loads rolled out the front gate. Mattresses are a lot like sails.
Yeah. As a teen I worked at a large hardware store. On a very windy day had to load a 1/4 inch 4x8 ft sheet of plywood on some lady's car. Picked it up and the wind put me right on the ground - bam! Of course we had no training and no way should one kid have been trying to wrestle light giant sail in that wind. But I learned a lesson!
Hope you at least told people this prior to their purchases.. messed up if not haha… you guys all start laughing once the purchase if final. “Ha! Sucker! Good luck finding a way to get that out of the store!!! Muaahahahahaha
damn, it's pretty cool. I usually just make a big loop with a ratchet strap and put it behind my neck, or sometimes I do intermediary loops for the hands to increase maneuverability. But for some medium heavy things needing fine mobility, having it on the elbow could be pretty nice!
I came here to say the same thing. I would have moved a mattress barefoot because a mattress isn't going to crush your foot. It was the last piece they moved at the end that really made me cringe.
Would be nice to also have an explanation in this video about the concept of forearm forklifts - what they are, how they work, why is this better than just carrying it. I don't carry any heavy stuff so while I assume intuitively that there's some benefit to this I don't understand how much better this is than just carrying it. 5% better, 200% better? Will this work on other heavy things like a heavy desk / table?
If you've never moved a mattress up a couple flights of stairs, you honestly should try it! It's an absurd project. They're really hard to keep a good grip on. Trying it yourself, if you are able to, will help you appreciate the back-breaking labor of any movers you might hire in the future.
Forearm forklifts are terrific at carrying heavy things. The benefit is that they only use your strongest muscles. I’d say 5x easier than trying to lift normally.
I like your videos, you are practical in some way, but... paramax and an expensive blower... hahahaha to move a matress you first world people are fun to watch.
I get where you're coming from but I'm just so used to the old tried and tested method where I stub my toe, bang a hole in the wall and my wife won't talk to me for 2 days.

Very nice such a nice dad. I get to do this with my 6 year old baby girl in about 15+ years... lol thanks for the tip.
Start her off early - don't wait any more than nine years.
Why would she have to be 21 to move a mattress?

10/10 Dad skills. Always make your offspring walk the load backwards.
He took the downhill side of the load. That's the heavier end. Plus if someone trips everything lands on him and not his daughter. Good guy.

Not a problem, just stick your arm out the window and hold it down, it'll be fine.

I found your channel yesterday and i love it. Idea for next video: how to make a high end graphics card out of rope?
I’m getting close. Still figuring out how to support two monitors with it.
good idea.

Just say no to bare feet while moving furniture.
Yeah I cringed imagining that mattress landing on their toes and severing them.
I agree, no bare feet, bare legs is much preferable for this beauty.
I came here to say the same thing. I would have moved a mattress barefoot because a mattress isn't going to crush your foot.

A bit elaborate for one job. Why not simply, for each person, a large loop of cord and a folded cloth draped over each arm to stop it cutting in.

We just wrap a strap around our wrist making a knot is not a good idea if u trip or sumthing and you need to drop it well it wont be good
Now how about finding an easy solution to flip and rotate mattresses 😃
Huge hack, thx a lot, ill remember.
Couldn't you just do those five loops thing big enough for forearms?
Would be hard to adjust for proper length.
Yes but it takes up most of your rope.
Forearm Forklift I've seen this infomercial... Here for water knot love ❤️🤙👍👌
