A series of High and Low tides have cleared a huge amount of sand and silt from Levenmouth! Has it uncovered historical treasure, or has it cleared the place out? Lets see what we can find!
Its a great day to be out - the sun is shining for the first time in what feels like months! What better way to spend the afternoon than treasure hunting in Envy Bay! And, it turns out to be a great day! We make a ton of great craft and jewellery quality finds, plus one spectacular first ever find - a musket ball! Plus, we are reminded about our luck turning whenever we say - lets get back to the car!
Where did that musket ball come from!?
300 years ago, the French supported Bonnie Price Charlie and the Jacobite Uprising, with the aim of returning the Stuarts to the throne of Great Britain! A large cache of musket balls arrived too late to help uprising - no one knows where all of this ammunition went - it is said to have been split up and distributed throughout Scotland. Recently, in 2020, a large cache of this ammunition was found near to the location where the Jacobite Army was defeated by a significantly larger English force, at Culoden. Its a great story and, wouldn't it be amazing if the wee musket ball we found belonged to that French consignment... Alas, we do not think there is really any chance that it is, but its still an amazing find, and it begs the question - how did it end up here in Leven's old Harbour area?
All in all, another great day with lot so of Winter sunshine and laughs!
We hope you enjoyed today's video... Thank you so much!

A bit of a Frankie Howerd impression to begin - still make cod bottles(from Japan, I reuse one) - a nice, giant shell, a bit of a find(the glass didn't come with it)! Like the musket ball(a bit of Scottish history)..... Pop song for you...Shiny, Shiny!

Yay .. a new video from my favorite mudlarking couple!! Really liked seeing your time at the beach and wish we could all have joined you both. The musket ball was a great find. Thank you for sharing the history behind it. What a bummer about the broken milk glass jar.
Thank you for your time in making the video. They are always so beautifully done.

That broken milk glass jar would be great as a tea light holder or for air plants!

A musket ball is such a great find. I have one from the beach that we both know and discovered from the County Archaeologist that the local militia had their practice firing range along there. It’s my most treasured find too! And a clay marble 👏👏👏

@scottishmudlarking I don't think I will ever find one of those, not on the Costa blanca, no pipe stems or bowls, no cod marbles or marbles, not even glass, only once or twice have I found sea glass. Too clean. Lots of pebbles, used to get shells and sea urchins, not any more.Drift wood yes. Lots of sea weed, need a metal detector.
