Thanks for the great video.
A couple of things to know...
#1 - In the center of the filter housing there is a bolt with a 3/8" square notch. Simple remove this and screw in the plastic release value (by hand) supplied with your Amsoil filter. The more you screw it in the more the inner spring value on the inside bottom of the filter housing is opened and the flow of oil will start/increase. Once all the oil has drained remove the plastic release valve then go on to removing the whole filter housing. This step will prevent a bunch of oil dripping out of the filter housing as you loosen it.
#2 - Supplied with the Amsoil filter should be two o-rings (large and small). The large one is to replace the one on the outside of the filter housing. The small one is for the bottom of the filter housing where the center bolt attaches.
Good luck.
Seems like extra steps though if you have a drip pan and don't mind getting oil all over yourself. More oil on you gives you higher testosterone levels
Thanks for the great video. We just got a 2010 Sequoia and you mentioning the bolt sizes were very helpful in lining up the tools.
I have ton of maintenance videos for Sequoia on my channel.
Very helpful, thank you. You're right about the lazy mechanics. Over his 45 year career, my father fortunately only worked with a few, but they are out there.
Thank you for going over the skidplate removal and the bolt sizes. Other videos just pretend it was never there.
You are welcome
Nice job explaining. Make it look very easy to change.
Thank you.
Good video. Detailed. Informative. To the point.
What do you have?
A lot of good information here. Thank you. It would have been nice to see you take out the oil filter rather than see it after it is out. I'd like to do this myself and was wondering how much of a mess it will be.
nkdfun, check out my other video that I have done on V6 Toyota it has same type of filter. I think it has details that you are looking ua-cam.com/video/09FdtEJf-2I/v-deo.html
nkdfun, watch this video on 5.7 v8 it has more details ua-cam.com/video/LqUzjCxtGgk/v-deo.html
nkdfun, did you have a chance to watch my other videos that I sent you?
Yes, that had the missing information. I'm waiting for all my tools to arrive in the mail! Thanks again!
nkdfun, if you don't mind answering. What do you have, tundra or sequoia?
You were very informative, thank you
Do you use the little plastic thing that comes with the filter? I’ve never used it on any of my toyotas or lexus
I use Amsoil tube it’s treaded
Well done video!
Why use a big assss socket over the filter wrench when you can just use the 3/8 square drive directly to the filter wrench? Extra weight lifting?
+Rick T, very good question. Instructions for the wrench says to use socket. Because it's possible to break the wrench, when filter housing has been set too tight. Not everyone understands how to properly install Toyota/Lexus oil filter.
Hello I appreciate you for this information .
I have a question what is the name of this thing in 6:36
How do you get it on Amazon or eBay
Thank you
I have an 02 sequoia, can the oil and filter be changed without dropping the skid plate?
That skid plate is the only pain in the arse thing about the whole procedure. Putting that thing back on is a monumental pain.
Yes, I have installed trd one with access panel for oil filter
Is 5w 20 synthetic Mobil one ok?
What is your definition of ok
decided to change the oil on my 5.7 Sequoia. The pre-check indicated the filter housing was tightened to the end of the threads, up against the top housing. The old Toyota filter was an S shape with many pleats side-by-side, no space between them. I installed the new Toyota cartridge, torqued to "That's tight about right" Ft-lbs. I noticed the canister was not screwed to the top of the housing, about 3/16 from the top, not tightened to the end of the threads. I then realized why the old filter was S shaped. The Toyota cartridge filter is about 3/16 " too long / tall for the filter housing to be tightened to the end of the threads. The dealer Mechanics, probably using power tools, tightened the filter housing as far as it would go, thread wise, compressing and distorting the old filter. So Far, the Diesel clatter is gone, probably due to Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 High Mileage or the first time used Holiday 91 octane w/o Ethanol. But the engine feels like the oil is too heavy, so I might change out to at least partial 0w-20 straight.
How many miles on your Sequoia? How often were you changing your oil? What brand of oil were you using before?
It's a 2011, purchased used from a GM Dealer, 100K miles now. Per Car Fax it had all scheduled oil changes from a Toyota Dealer. The GM dealer said they changed the oil among other maint., likely at the Toyota dealer down the street from them. I had a question about the vehicle, they let me take it to the Toyota dealer for their pre-purchase inspection, no problems found. The transmission didn't feel right, but I think oil had drained into the pan from sitting for a few weeks. The problem quickly went away. Pennzoil indicates not to use their best synthetic on high mileage vehicles. Will use Amsoil in the trans, just found a dealer last week and may use it for engine oil.
Did you know that you can buy Amsoil products online at wholesale price cheaper than at local dealer? Also, free shipping is available. Here is the link www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/2011/toyota/sequoia/5-7l-8-cyl-engine-code-3ur-fbe-6-flex/us-volume/?zo=5257753

What is the part number for the oil filter?
Nice video. I have never seen an oil filter like that. I have the 2013 Platinum and this will be my 1st oil change - the previous 2 oil changes were done by Toyota under that 2 year maintenance plan they provided (figured what the hell). Now it's all on me. Btw, I do all the work on our vehicles.
Suggestion. Put antiseize on any bolt you remove under a vehicle. Youn won't have any problems removing them later. Also if you ever have problems with a rusty bolt, you need to heat them up (small propane torch will work) and maybe even spray something like WD40 or the like and you should be able to remove them.
How many miles did you get on that oil? It still looks good. Where did you get the oil filter wrench tool?
Thanks
thank you Toyota for overcomplicating the world's easiest job: Oil change!
Pffft!
It's not that bad. Many European vehicles been doing this way for long time, longer than toyota.
@@repairvehicle Don't worry you're gonna have some people complained about something. I thought it was great. Thanks again.
Do the u-joints have grease zerks?
+Forward Plans , yes. I have video on my channel about it.
Also, how do you reset the maintenance light?
there is a video on my channel, on resetting.
Awesome, I see you do a lot of videos on Sequoias. I just subscribed. I bought my 2013 Sequoia off the showroom floor but now that the Toyota Care Plan has expired I will be doing my own maintenance on it.
I will get you parts number for Toyota oil filter later today.
Awesome thanks!
