Let me know if you are a fan of Grandfather clocks.
I’m glad I found your video. I’m contemplating where to put multiple long case clocks around the house and I thought I was the only one with this disease!!
My grandfather recently passed and has left his clock to me. I haven’t heard it chime since my grandmother passed when I was 16. Thanks for the tips! I can’t wait to hear it chime and sit and cry in my living room.
Very sorry for your loss. I hope you can get the clock running. Thanks for watching.
Sorry about your loss
Nice job. I move a clock about 7 years ago about 300 miles. Weights and pendulum disassembled and then packed the clock with tailored closed cell foam blocks to secure all internals and chimes. Your job was more thorough and proper. Nice job for you and your daughter!
Thanks Lee. I’m actually shocked that it came through the move in working order!
I have a grandfather clock that needs to be moved do you move them
I go to a number of estate sales and one of the things I'm wanting to get is a Grand father clock but was concerned about how to move it without damaging it Thank you for showing me how to properly do it.
@@TheLongjohntim glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
I may be buying a Gebruder Resch 3 weight grande sonnerie tomorrow or day after, the thought of moving it across town is nerve wracking. Your tip on weight location and taping the spools is helpful, thanks very much.
Thanks for making this. We have to move a clock we're getting a few miles and have no idea what to do. Now we do!
Hope it helps. Good luck with the move. Thanks for watching.
I don't have a GF clock, but in case I ever get one, I'll know what to do! I like your explanations of everyday things.
Thanks Clifford. Appreciate you watching.
Just bought a used one. It traveled about 3 miles to my home. ❤
Thanks for watching
My plan was to stabilize the weights and works with bubble wrap and painters tape and put it on my furniture dolly and wheel it around the corner. 😊
Amazing clocks Scott! Nothing but classic here. I have an original hand made coo koo clock from the black
Hills of Germany. We purchased it while on vacation over there. I need to get that thing back hanging up. You inspired me to do so! Thanks for sharing!
Surfer - I have one too. It is hanging in the library but I have had trouble getting it running. Might have to make that my next project. Thanks for watching.
@@ScottUrbach Very nice!
Excellent video ! Thank you so very much for making this video I feel more confident to move my grandfather's clock.
Hope it helped. Good luck with the move
That’s a BEAUTIFUL clock!
Thank you Melissa
I’m waiting on my first ever grand father clock to arrive this week unfortunately the courier does not assemble the clock on deliver so watching a lot of UA-cam videos to see if possible I can put it together myself the mechanism is very much like the one on this clock in your video so I’m guessing I will find this video very helpful it’s a early 1900s grandfather clock has been serviced and cleaned prior and has seconds hand and also the chime on / chime off which was a big selling point for me as don’t want it chiming when I am in bed 😊
Hope it goes well. Sound like a nice clock. Thanks for watching.
Both beautiful clocks, the first one I suspect is early 1800's, maybe as late as 1815, the second one is maybe a little earlier judging by the dial (assuming it's original to the case and the movement). I love the slim trunks of the late 1700's and early 1800's clocks, they look so much more elegant than the later ones. My favourites are the early painted dial clocks, from around 1770 to 1800.
David - thank you for the info and your expertise. I have much to learn about these clocks. Thanks for watching.
Thank you… informative
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! That's very helpful
Very informative, thank you!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching
Excellent tutorial! I have two grandfather (one might technically be a grandmother?) clocks that were my mother’s that I’m making a special trip home to Michigan to move into storage. Any additional tips and resources to make sure the job is done right would be most welcome.
Thank you 🙏
Great tips
Thanks SS
Thanks kindly ❤
You are so welcome
Goid timing 👍😀
Awesome!
Thanks Victoria
First! I love them!!!
Thanks for watching SS
It would definitely be easier with another responsible person. Haven’t had one of those in years.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Howdy, I transported my clock today in back of a truck. Now I can’t get it to work… Any ideas what I can try??
Sorry to hear Joey. I’m definitely not an expert. First thing is to check that it is level on all axis. Does the pendulum swing freely and weights on the correct sides with the cord wound correctly on the spools?
@@ScottUrbach Thank You!! Weights were on the wrong side!!
😭❓H E L P.... We moved our clock from living room, 10 feet away to dining room and has not worked. Took forever to get it level... months and we think we did it today. Same hard flooring throughout and no transition pieces to move over. We moved it like a baby after removing the weights and pendulum. Everything is back where it should be as we marked everything. Stopped again!! After about 5 or 10 minutes. So discouraged. Wish we never moved it as it was perfect.
Any suggestions? We are frustrated and 💔 heartbroken.
Help....
Tina afraid I may not be much help. You are on the right track to make sure it is level on all axis. Not leaning in any direction. You made sure weights are back on the correct side and that the pendulum is properly seated. The top is very delicate - and should not be bent or creased. Sorry I cant help more
I have a1988 Ridgeway cable driven clock, I forgot to crank up the rollers/weight far enough. I removed the weight san 2 of the 3 rollers flipped outside the cable. How do I put them back inside the cable
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I am not familiar with that type of clock and system. Sorry I cant be of much help.
I don’t really like tall clock I like cuckoo clocks
I have a couple of those as well!
Grandfather clocks are cool but I have no where to put it if I had one
