A terrific find on the roof tiles, Sam! Exactly what Sean has been waiting for. The barn will soon become weather tight as well! What a pleasant thought!
Sam you have an eagle eye. Good job finding those roof tiles. Now the barn can become water tight and match the cottage roof. The cottage floor and reinforcement of the back wall has taken a lot of thought and experienced skill. Little by little it’s getting done. Fun to watch you work on it. ❤
That’s fabulous how you managed to get old roof tiles in keeping with the building. Loved the finish on that copper planter it really came up a treat. You’re making progress now Sean
I find this renovation of what many might call a hovel absolutely fascinating. What structural knowledge is required of both ancient and modern building techniques to make this place into a cosy and safe home.
Here are some natural ways to keep flies away on a farm: Plant aromatic plants Flies are discouraged by many aromatic plants, especially those with citrus-like scents or rich herbs. You can plant these in containers or in your garden and landscape to minimize fly populations. Some good options include: Basil: A common fly-repellent plant that releases natural oils Lavender: Contains a chemical called linalool that flies dislike, and is often used in fly-repellent lotions Mint: Can repel flies, mosquitoes, and ants without making a mess Rosemary: Can add flavor to your food while also keeping flies away
Also, geraniums have a scented leaf ( citronella is an Ivy geranium) that repels biting bugs. Artemisia aka Wormwood is a bug repellent too. "Silver King" is sometimes called Silver Sage and used medicinally.
The amazing Hercules scores a tiles bonanza...how excited I am for you! Your Lady Sam's eagle-eye find, with Sir Tom's help, and that magnificant stone estate of yours is getting better, if possible...and with guardian lions that keep the place safe. The cottage is coming along so well, too. What paradise you own...I can smell your garden flowers all the way, here, in Minnesota!!! I love visiting France with your steady guidance and forays occasionally into the countryside on your buying adventures and sight-seeing sojourns. Happy day!
You could try citronella. That usually keeps the pesty insects away. Love the cottage renovation & it’s great you got all those roof tiles for your barn Sean.
Citronella Geraniums are great for reducing pesky flying insects. We had some in pots outside the back door and it became much more bearable. When we moved them, we could tell how much those plants had been discouraging flying insects.
Wow you have done quite a bit of work there. The roof tiles are great, now you can finish the barn area. Love your garden area that is beautiful. Have a great day
Aww love seeing and hearing the Kitties. They are absolutely beautiful 😍 Glad Sam was able to find all roofing tiles. How ever could you get along without her.
"Key features to tell a swift from a swallow or martin are the dark underside (swallows and martins have pale bellies), the proportionately longer wings and the screaming call. Swifts fly in the upper part of the air column as they hunt; swallows pursue insects closer to the ground or water" I found this information on Google
Another cheap way to keep Flys at bay is simply put a shiny copper coin and water in a clear bag, secure it closed and hang in the area you will be in. Several bags for larger area. The flys see their reflection magnified in size and won't stay around.
Could you replace the front of the two buildings with the same tiles and then the fronts will look the same and put the ones off the other on the back. Just a thought.
Hi Sean. Yes I have an Italian idea that I know of regarding the flies. They put sardines in bottles in the trees or near where you don’t want them. They get trapped in the neck of the bottle. I have seen them in Nice France as well as special bags that trap mosquitoes. Very effective. You just dump the bottle. It reduces the eggs etc. Ashling 🇮🇪 Do you search for items? I am looking for garden high back metal chairs. Just thought it would be a great business as a finder!!!
Take a plastic 2 liter soda bottle cut top off like a funnel turn it down into rest of bottle staple it in plave add an 2-3 inches water table spoon yeast and 2-3 of sugar place a distance away from your working area not inside if can be helped as it fermentsnlike beer the flies will be attracted to it when full toss out start new bottle cheap recyling/reusing as well does a pretty decent job too
Sean, I live and work in an old brick building with a partial dirt crawl space. My concern for Radon Gas was on my priority list. So, I had my air tested and found that my building was safe. If you have a problem with Radon, I assume your air circulating system will solve the problem. If you haven’t tested for Radon Gas, I would look into it. John in Bethel, Missouri. USA
Well done for finding the roof tiles, they should match in nicely. Please don't overdo it in these temperatures Sean. Dehydration can be really nasty. 🙂🏊♂️
Seen a farmer on UA-cam take sheet fly paper and wrap it around trash cans think used 3 or 4 . Took a couple changes but it worked around the live stock 🙌 😊
For the flies take a clear plastic bag and put a few cooper coins in the bag a fill it with water. Hang by your window or door the flies won’t pass. It messes with their eyes.
Kudos to Sam for finding a good deal on the roof tiles! Flat tires are the pits, and usually noticed to the wheelbarrow is full! Your wall is looking fine, Sean! I was holding my breath when you loosened that big rock! Mind your back! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻
Congratulations on the tiles! Sam keeps her eyes open! Pretty copper container. PS, I bought a couple of mosquito jackets online years ago. A fine mesh. A bit warm in hot weather. One jacket is easier to see out of than the other. The head covering zippers loose so you can toss it back off your head.
Sean you made me laugh when you were talking of windowsills. I lived in quite a few houses in different countries, but unfortunately I’m living in a modern house with no windowsills. 🥲 Plus my windows open inwards that being the reason. But I do miss my UK house with windowsills 😂😂😂for displaying objects and plants….
I love the cat family! We had a similar situation and kept the kittens and momma cat (strays) and the enjoyment we’ve gotten from their family has really added to our human family. Ours are 13 years old now and they still all sleep together. ❤
Sean I had a hunch about a natural fly repellent. If you can tolerate it and you injest garlic or garlic tablets it will repel flies. I'm sure Sam had recipes that could include it.
Flies..do what the Aussies do. We get a hat preferable an Akubra and hang corks around the brim with string keeps the flies away.. looks silly but works..
Swallows, Swifts and Martins. Think swallowtails. Martins will be lower, and the wing shape is distinctive. I worked at a place in London, and the Sand Martins were almost head height.😊
There are bags/mesh that you put on your head to keep away gnats, mosquitos, inserts, flies. Only $6 USD. Mosquito Head Net Mesh Gnat Face Netting Bug Face Netting for Hats Mesh Face Shield for Men & Women Beekeeper Net Mask Protection D1-FWWS (Black). check it out.
I hope your workaways come soon I am guessing your farmer friend will come soon after the roof is done to take away the old hay and you can assess the joist I imagine are not good and will have to be replaced. I didn't realize there was a third empty barn as assumed that was part of your home you live in. Well done on the tiles maybe they will have floor tiles you are looking for as well.
Sean you need a metal stamp to punch “Sean’s world” and maybe the date on the bottom of the copper pieces. Might entice buyers if there was something more special with each item. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hello my friend, I have missed about a month of videos because of Wi-Fi problems. I will go back to catch up 😢Have missed seeing the work as it’s happening.❤
It’s hard work but so worth it in the end. Fantastic job, I’m learning loads from you, not that I can do too much myself theses day but hubby can 🤣🤣 great job, enjoy what you do as always, all the best.🇬🇧we’re about to move to Spain 🇪🇸😉
Hi Sean I love everything you do. Plants I use in Canada are Rosemary, lemon balm, citronella, lemon grass, when I can find them. I also use Rue, comes back each year - I don't know if it is a perennial or biannual plant. Supposedly poisonous for cats and dogs if they ingest it. I don't know for other animals like goats, sheep, pigs and such. However I don't have any fly problems, it seems to keep skunks at bay. I've no idea if it is connected. In the past we used to get that famous perfume once or twice a week. Now so far in the last three months I've only smelt it a few times. In French we call it La Rue, in English Rue, some call it Arruda, in other places they call it the gratitude plant. I know some people make a tea and use it for certain ailment - like arthritis, rheumatism, neuralgia. It is also used against worms, mosquitos, lice, however I did not dig into it further. In the past I had a dog that lived to close to 16, she was an outdoor dog. She couldn't stand being inside. The fly's loved bugging her. After some research I found out about Rue, one day I rubbed some on the long fur on her head and upper back where she could not lick herself. That made a great difference. I would not try it on cats because they rub their paws on their heads and lick themselves. Hope this helps.
Encourage those swifts and swallows because they are eating their body weight in flies daily. Have you considered growing lemon geraniums to repell flies from immediate vicinity around them. The leaves of this lemon geranium when rubbed emits a lemony scent that repells mosquitos and flies. This type of geranium doesn't flower much and is drought resistant and tough as nails to grow.
We have fake dragonflies, it's the only fear built in for flies! We also print dragonfly photos out and have stuck on windows to stop them coming in the house!
A terrific find on the roof tiles, Sam! Exactly what Sean has been waiting for. The barn will soon become weather tight as well! What a pleasant thought!
Sean you keep so busy it’s nice to see you take the “5” and appreciate your beautiful place. Good on you Sam for finding the tiles.
Kudos to Sam for finding the tiles! 🎉
Wonderful to get the rooftiles! Congratulations. Well spotted, Sam!

So pleased you have the roof tiles. It must have been a huge relief Sean. Good for you Sam.
Loading and unloading that first lot and I'd be done for the day....Good gosh, you have lots of energy.
Sean, all the work you have to do, you are always happy and never complian. You certainly have your work ahead of you. Thank for sharing.
That’s fabulous how you managed to get old roof tiles in keeping with the building. Loved the finish on that copper planter it really came up a treat. You’re making progress now Sean
Real content from real people, I really enjoy watching. It all feels kind of wholesome!
I find this renovation of what many might call a hovel absolutely fascinating. What structural knowledge is required of both ancient and modern building techniques to make this place into a cosy and safe home.
Congratulations on the tiles. Can’t wait to see the new/old roof.
Never a dull moment, at Sean's World. Keep up the good work.👍👍
In Australia we have hats with corks hanging off them, as you move the corks move and send the flies on their way.

The copper piece looks like a fish poacher I have. The roof will look great! You are a very hard worker.
Citronella Geraniums are great for reducing pesky flying insects. We had some in pots outside the back door and it became much more bearable. When we moved them, we could tell how much those plants had been discouraging flying insects.
So happy you got the roof tiles you needed. Hopefully you can get some assistance when you’re ready to put them in place

Awesome find with the roof tiles. That copper planter is beautiful.

My dad hangs his suspended on the rafters. No flies on his deck at all.

Yes that's what l am planning
So glad you found the roof tiles you needed.

In Pennsylvania we put very shiny pennies in a baggie of water and hang up. The flies think it is a hugh bug coming to eat them and fly away!
Great to to the tiles! You'll need that done before the bad weather! Well done!

Sean, what a wonderful score on those roof tiles. Sam really seems to know her stuff.
I love watching you continue to work in the cottage.
Cheers
If it's common house flies place a bowl of beer about 3 yards away from where you are sitting
What a find those tiles were. I'm sure that is a huge load off your mind. At least now you can choose when the roof will get done. 🪰Darn Flies!!!!!
Fantastic find the roof tiles!
I love it when a plan comes together.
outdoor disposable fly traps work great to lower the number of flys
Yay!!! I’m so glad you found the roof tiles. ❤
Try citronella plants and Bathouses for the fly problems.
Good find those roof tiles. X
Lucky you for those tiles!
Take it easy on that back Sean💪
A lot of hard work in that heat ❤
You are such a hard worker. My hat is off once again.

Gold Shaw Farm! Morgan also uses chickens and ducks to the great detrement of the local bug population.
For the flies take a clear plastic bag and put a few cooper coins in the bag a fill it with water. Hang by your window or door the flies won’t pass. It messes with their eyes.
Sticky brown paper fly traps that you hang up work for flies. ❤🇦🇺
I've had many of those in my hair growing up. Yuck!

Terrific find with the tiles! I know you’ve wanted to get that roof done for a long time. It’s a huge job - I hope you’re going to have help with it.
Wow 🤩What a find ! Well Done Sam 👏👏A Much Needed item for the renovations. The roof when finished will look too Beautiful ❤️
Terrific video and so interesting.

I've seen a trick to keep your small tyres (e.g. wheelbarrow) inflated: Fill them with expanding foam (insulation) or silicon!
Great 💡 idea
Jean from Suffolk UK hi Sean flys don’t like lavender so grow lots of Lavender ❤
I love the cat family! We had a similar situation and kept the kittens and momma cat (strays) and the enjoyment we’ve gotten from their family has really added to our human family. Ours are 13 years old now and they still all sleep together. ❤

citronella oil. put it on your hat . it smells good and you don't have to use harsh chemicals on your skin or clothes. peppermint works also.

What a beautiful brass holder ,😊❤
Swallows. L’hirondelles, I believe.
Amazon has dragon fly clips a natural predator of pests like flies. I ordered some and they seem to work!

You can't write your name on someone else's artisan work, I'm afraid that's a form of theft, claiming someone else's handmade item as your own...
It’s a stamp from his shop. Not a manufacturer stamp. Try to keep it light for fun and don’t get all technical.
Yay Sam! Great find on those roof tiles!!!!🎉
Congrats on the roof tiles!
Great find on those tiles.
Some how I think the wall will be around another 500 years, so I don't think you will need to do it again. Now you just need to find Spanish gold.
Brilliant you have tiles for your roof 🤗👍🍻
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Hello my friend, I have missed about a month of videos because of Wi-Fi problems. I will go back to catch up 😢Have missed seeing the work as it’s happening.❤
No worries
what a score for your project!
There beautiful. Will look good
I keep fresh basil in my kitchen to keep the flies away, they hate the smell Works like a dream!!!!!!!!!!!!
A bug zapper would do the trick
Hi all
Your doing a wonderful job 🙌
Neem oil will keep the flies away
How far below the surface do the walls go??
Hard ti say for sure without disturbing it

Are you sure that those are peg tiles. I see no hole for the oak pegs but I do see the hooks that an acme tile has.
Encourage those swifts and swallows because they are eating their body weight in flies daily. Have you considered growing lemon geraniums to repell flies from immediate vicinity around them. Watched a cattle feeding area where the guy put fly paper around barrels and the area was cleared in a short time or flies…
Lavender
Good late afternoon😊
Nice goin Sean, good pick up Sam! Thanks m8s, stay vertical Eh!

Looks like a few nights on t’tiles ahead of you 😵😵😵😵😵
