Congratulations on the engagement! I hope you keep your own name. Zanna van Dijk is such a beautiful name, keep it officially and legally.

Van Dijk - because it is such a dutch name - is obv a big part of your heritage, not just a name. I say keep it 😅 sounds lovely

Big time kudos on the asking your dad for permission, that is what I did. It seems old fashion but I think it's shows how incredibly important this was to him, that he would do that. Being someone who is big on tradition, you can take his name but you can still keep the business side of your brand with your own name, nothing wrong with that. He sounds like a keeper, him showing that kind of emotion during the proposal, is so sweet. I just stumbled into you channel, the algorithm worked again. Subbed.

Don't change your name. It's part of your identity. You can still be a team and family unit whilst respecting your individuality.

There are pros and cons to each. If Ant's last name is common, as my husband's is, things get really confusing when you're making reservations or traveling. It can also be difficult for young children to understand why moms last name is different from theirs. But if you like your name and don't want to go through the hassle of changing it, then dont! Reservations get sorted out, kids will understand one day. As much as I don't care what other people's opinions are, I've found judgement from others in both scenarios. "Aw that's too bad you lost your identity when you took his name." "Good for you doing the right thing and taking his name." It's just goes on and on! There's no way to avoid it!

I simply lovvvvv u, zanna & I simply lovvvvv watching & listening to your vblogs, especially on a Saturday morning. Your wedding is going to be very beautiful & EPIC! Having just 70 guests at your wedding sounds to me a nice & fair amount. Whether u continue to keep your last name or ant's is really down to personal preference & what your heart tells you. Congratulations to a very beautiful couple 👩‍❤️‍👨whose love for each other is unconditional & full of happiness.Have a wonderful & superb weekend! 🥰❤️❤️🌟

My view on name changing was always that I intend to be married to this man for as long as I live and therefore I will have his name for longer than I have had my maiden name. I loved my maiden name but I wasn’t attached to it more than the idea of feeling attached to someone who has chosen to be with me forever..not sure if that makes sense ❤️ congratulations to you both! Congratulations 🤍 re changing name. I’m taking my partners name in our personal life (so that will be on our marriage certificate) but then keeping my maiden name for all my business/ work life stuff. Felt like the right balance for me. You just keep one form of ID in your maiden name for work.

Idk if there is a similar company in the UK but if you do end up changing your name. I definitely would recommend getting a name changing kit. It’s basically like a big checklist with the forms you’ll need altogether with a step by step guide. Here in the US i used NewlyNamed. Definitely recommend.

All the love for this video ❤. We are getting married in April 2025 and have had a lot of name chat. My personal view is that we all need to have the same name but there is no way for me that will be taking a man's name. I find it so interesting that so many woman think it's a keep there's or take the man's. Just patriarchal society making something else a female problem. Luckily my partner is very understanding of my views and so we are currently negotiating on what the name might look like. A big stress as is name is already 11 characters so a full double barrel wouldn't work. We have floated potentially picking a new name together for our family though or taking part of his name. Van-Maule has a bit of a ring to it. 😊

Taking the name is a totally individual choice. I haven’t and felt strongly about that. In hindsight I wish I’d double barreled my daughters name instead of it just being her Dads name.

I think you put your finger on it when you said you built your business with your name. I work under my name too and will not take me fiancés name. It's important to me to break the cycle of male legacies being passed down via names, so we've agreed that our kid will have my name.

My parents are married and my mum never changed her name - having different names never effected us as a family and we are an incredibly close unit. I won't be changing my name when I'm married & will make sure any kids have both names even if mine is a middle name - my partner was really shocked when I said this when we were first together but over time has come to realise what a patriarchal assumption that was. Maybe you could just create a new one for a two of you if you'd like to have the same?xx

On a feminist point of view, if I get married, I’ll definitely keep my name. That’s my identity and I don’t want to change when the man doesn’t. That doesn’t make any sense to me.. it’s a tradition that put the man in a more important position and honestly, I hate that. We are whole as female. And it’s just so annoying to have to change every paperwork…we have enough on our plate us ladies :)

Names is such a big thing! If me and my partner get married then we're going to pick a brand new name. To me a new name is starting a new family so have something connecting just the two of us would feel really special!
I also think you're in a good position that you can always keep your maiden name professionally/for brand. Might also add an additional layer of separation (which is what other people I follow have said).
Main thing is just what's right for you ❤ Congratulations! Xx

We don’t change our names in Spain and kids take both their dad’s and Mum’s surnames. The dad’s tend to go first and their mum’s second. So if you are van dijk and ant is maule they would be “maule van dijk”

  • @carly10347

Why is it always the automatic assumption that women drop their history and take a man's name and why do kids automatically take the dad's name! Agh it's such a frustrating tradition to me. Women's history is important too.

I have two children ages 13 and 9 years now. Their dad has never asked me to marry him 🙄 maybe I'm just not the one after 17 years 😂 and I have to be honest, I have not enjoyed having a different name to my children. I have even been asked to prove that my children are mine whilst taking them travelling without their dad. I would suggest keeping your own name as your brand, but changing your name officially behind closed doors. You won't regret that when you have children. Congratulations ❤

I don't get the uproar with someone changing your last to your husband's if you get married. Everyone is still ok with the guy buying the ring and doing the asking (and of course down on one knee......all old school stuff) but then when it comes to changing your last name to his suddenly that's just wrong

  • @SharneBatt
    @SharneBatt Рік тому

The name situation only becomes a BIG problem when you TRAVEL WITH CHILDREN. If your last name doesn't match the children, you will need to always carry their birth certificate with their passport and that goes for the same with the Father if they don't match his. This is to prevent child-trafficking.
