I have to admit when it comes to videos about drinking, you are the first name that pops in my head. Hard to believe the Canucks have so many songs about beer and alcohol. Said in a very monotone voice.
Nice boost to Richie’s thread. He was just lamenting that only two people had joined in. I might have to join this one. Lots of country songs fit the bill. Oh, memories of Brewers Retail. Cheers Brian 🍸.
From all those drinking songs it was a nice segway into the Squeeze’s Hangover 🍺 My old company bought a firm in Texas and didn’t appreciate that it was in a dry county….that was a big surprise! 😂😂 Mike
Ha ha. That would have been quite the surprise. But, since I am a very moderate drinker (as I have already said), I could handle it 🙂 I assume some still exist, but it seems wrong in the day and age to have dry areas, especially given the legalization of pot. I have at least four cannabis stores within a KM of my house! Who is buying all of that pot, I wonder.
Back in 86’ I was a 25 yr old party kid and I worked for The Pan Pacific Hotel. It was also Expo 86 and most staff received an Entry Pass for all the pavilions and bars on the Expo site. I think I saw, listened and drank to the Poques a half dozen times at the Irish Pub, which I also avoided the longest line ups on the grounds. Good times 👍 had by all. Spirit of the West also played that pub numerous times. I’m fortunate enough to have two early Teenage Head’s albums, great stuff. Drank, smoked and partied hard to dawn with the Cure one night. My close friend was British and old high school mates with Brian Smith so we got extremely drunk together after a Cure gig here in Vancouver. 😅. They were a drinking force to be reckoned with. If drinking and smoking was an Olympic sport the Cure boys would take gold every time.
@@EmbryonicRobot Yes it was a very memorable time in my life. I was in a very prestigious position at the hotel at least for my age and minor rank. I was given a clearance pass by Interpol and any Secret Service members etc when hosting with dignitaries. Met and worked with many well known and famous people, maybe that’s why I do not care about current celebrities anymore lol. I noticed I wrote Brian Smith when I was meaning Robert Smith of course. Perhaps I’m still a little hung over from that experience. Yes my good friend from England knew a few heavy party people from home that were in bands. The Cure event for me was a once in a lifetime experience with the help of Paul. Still have the party photos, my wife once asked “who’s the guy with the ridiculous hair?”

I'm hoping to complete this thread before the end of the week. You didn't mention any of the songs I plan on mentioning, but you came damn close a few times. Great picks, Brian!
This is subject is just in my alley - even I don't drink...Finnish hardcore & schlager is full of songs about drinking... Luckily straight edge arrived here in 90s and went out of my radar... Be sure, that I am going to raise a glass for this thread.
I was thinking about doing a video about drinking songs with our group that does videos on Massey's Maine Entertainment channel and then magically out of the ether, I hear another channel has just posted one. Oh well. I may have to hop on. I do know a lot of drinking songs. I may have to see if I can do it without a bunch of blues and country songs. The Pogues is a perfect pick and one I always saw as upbeat. Now that I have Kim Mitchell, I still need some Max Webster. I know the song "What's The Use Of Getting Sober" from Louis Jordan and didn't remember Joe Jackson covering it but it does make sense as Louis Jordan was a jump blues performer (Jumpin' Jive). Interesting story on Rod's album. Cheers.
Hi Randy - Speaking of Kim Mitchell, his record Akimbo Alogo has a great song about drinking on it, of course. I suppose country and Blues have a lot of songs about booze and misery 🙂 I'd be curious to see your picks for this.
Hey Brian, catching up on some of your videos here. For some reason, I never heard Teenage Head when I was in high school. I don't think they ever really appeared on Much Music (maybe later hours). I remember lots of people talking about them, but I was never able to get into them. Tool on the other hand is one of my top 5 bands of all time.
