My favorite Steely Dan tune. Hard not to sing along. Keep in mind, for the first say, 13-14 years of my life, our popular music stations were AM, and could be rather staticy (static-ee?) especially when driving. I went through a Lot of batteries in my 9V Transistor Radio. FM really didn't hit it's stride until the early 70's, just in time for all the best music to come out - and in Stereo. With No Static At All..... 🎧🎙️🎤📻 📻 📻
I remember growing up lasting to AM stations. Everyone's in a while I would be able to pick up Wolfman jack I was supposed to be sleeping so I had to listen with my little white hard plastic earphone (mono)then FM stations started to come out, changed everything. I totally understand the lyrics, no static it all.....
Jazz/Soul/Funk fusion at its best. Steely Dan is a genre of its own. Nobody has that groove like Steely Dan. Thank you for playing them and all the hard Work you put into your channel and commentary.
This is my favourite Steely Dan song and it is from the movie FM which I would suggest watching along with the movie Pirate Radio. Both films are fun and will give you an idea about Rock and radio stations back in the 60's and 70's. Cheers
The transition from AM to FM in the 60’-70’s meant at times a staticky, mono sound to clear “stereo” layered mixes coming out of car radios, record players and home systems. It was a huge improvement to the ears!
So glad you liked this one, I thought you would. Others next: Josie, Glamour Profession, My Rival, Gaucho, Green Earrings, Kid Charlemagne, Dr. Wu, I can go on and on!

This track has two different outro’s this one off the steely Dan album with guitar and bongos the other off the FM movie soundtrack with sax and bongos both memorable 👊
FM. YEP it is indeed radio. AM radio sucked, soundwise and content. When FM appeared, it was clean sound. And they had cool bands like Weather Report that would never play on AM. Also, Dan is said to be its own genre. Anyone agree?
He had some great solo work, and that Includes the 2000s and 2010s with Donald’s albums Morph the Cat (arguably the best of his solo work) and Sunken Condos.
I love the guitar solo at the end of this one, but you said you were hoping for more saxophone. There is an alternate full-length version (5:06 running time) that ends with another sax solo in place of the guitar solo.
FM as in Frequency Modulation was new at that time. In the early 60's almost all music was transmitted on the AM band. FM was far better because with FM the quality of the audio didn't depend on the signal strength, as with AM; hence, "no static at all".
Before FM became a bigger more widely spread thing. AM radio is all there was . Am was pretty ruff to listen to unless were some to the town it came From. .Hm made the listening experience a lot clearer and sgarper......

Oh wow been a minute since I've heard this one! I used to love this song, how could I have forgotten about it?!

Such a groovy tune, recorded during the Aja sessions, like a super cool B-Side that didn't make the album
I've always loved this song!!! I remember the "FM" movie where this song was featured. Actually, the entire movie soundtrack was pretty good.
You can't ever go wrong with steely Dan
This was sucha cool song....very smooth like an aged whiskey
Brilliant song and recording. Classic outtro guitar by Walter Becker. RIP.
Thank you Ace -- another joyous musical experience. Fun sharing good music with ya!
Great song. I always have been a Steely Dan group. Look up the meaning of why they have that name Steely Dan. They're awesome 💯👍⭐
Funky, jazzy, groovy!!!! Time for another Earth, Wind, & Fire song...."Love's Holiday." Into your collection it will gooooo.
It was the theme to the movie FM from 1978. I'm sure they were obligated to say that in the song.

Great to listen to while grinding up some flower and packing tubes. And yes the reference is to FM radio
There's another version of "FM" with a saxophone fade out
Thanks!
Oh yeah. So good. Please check out Home at Last or The Caves of Altimira.

1 of my favorites! 🥰🐰
Wow that was 🔥🔥🔥

Fire then, and Fire now!!!
Lead singer Donald Fagen had some good solo work in the '80s and '90s. I'd suggest "Tomorrow's Girls", which had a great video as well.

Theme song for the 1978 movie of the same name.
Donald Fagen is magic - cranking out hit after hit. Don't forget to check his solo album out "The Nightfly" it has some bangers too!!
Don't stop the music. Your turn is after the song.
The Dan are incredible. Only about 60 or so more great ones to go! Try Reacting to My Old School or Bad Sneakers by the Dan!
Josie should be on your review list soon!

Fm was a new form of broadcasting. It went from AM that was staticy.
There is another connection: "No static" from the girls meant there were no arguments about "making out," as we used to call it.
You refer to SD as ‘him.’ SD is a group of 2 musicians and a lot of studio players invited in.
You need to do My Old School!
AM radio had static coming across the air waves often, FM radio had or has WAY less static.
You young folks didn’t have to deal with AM radio static- hell- even FM radio. 🤣🤣

Hi, Guy! Try "Secret Garden" by Quincy Jones
God Bless!
I guess static is a thing of the past with the digital age.
