This game and Rollin Rascal are actually so hype, like these games have so much charm! They have so much color, such a nice style to it, so much passion, slick controls, etc. It really helps that this is exactly what I’ve wanted from something like a 3d Sonic game forever lol

i thought it would be a really mediocre game just looking for exposure, but this actually looks like a really nice cross between sonic games and mario odyssey movement. the art style is even a step up from sonic games, the main character looks well designed, and the levels look bright and full of action. i hope this game gets the love and support to turn into a series eventually!

game audio is kinda quiet but another cj banger as always
i think what i dislike about this game ends up being its environmental design. yeah it has a water stage, a sandy stage, a lava stage, etc, but it all kinda... vibes the same. Maybe it's better if i experience the game for myself and have more context, but it almost feels like everything is fake.
At least its not like sonic 4 where everything feels like its made out of lifeless plastic, PBB's environments actually look nice and appealing with its geometric shapes and stuff. But it still feels kinda fake to me, like its all props with decals?
Maybe thats the artistic intent, what with the world being all about performances, but i dont vibe with it. i feel like i need things to be just a little less abstract, just a liiittle more grounded in reality and giving more visual "context" to every zone than what's already there. Don't misinterpret me, i hate the obsession with photorealism in games as much as the next indie gamer, but thats the best i could come up with for why i'm not a fan of the environment design.
maybe it just needs a larger variety of enemies and more visually distinct passive NPCs to occupy all these locations. yknow, make it feel like theyre actually from the zones they live in, and provide more unique challenges to penny.
maybe im just not into the genesis-inspired art direction and how everything looks like its from a lofi hip hop music video background.

this feels like it is ripping off a lot of different mario games
It's a 3D platformer, Nintendo doesn't own that genre of game. We need more good 3D platformers besides mario games.
It clearly has some Super Mario Odyssey inspiration with the living Yoyo, but I also recognise Sonic parts with the skateboard-y arenas (which makes sense, since they developed a Sonic game before) and the movement feels somewhat Hat in Time-y.
If you only recognise the Mario inspiration, that is likely because you have played more Mario games than the other games.

The reasons I'm comparing the Yoyo to Cappy is because the cap-bounce etc.; I haven't played Banjo Kazooie but I don't think it has a "cap-bounce" equivalent?

Banjo doesnt have a cap bounce as such but kazooie is a bird that lives in your backpack and let's you extend jumps and perform other such tech. This game has a very banjo kazooie feel to it.
Infact I would go as far as to say this game doesnt feel like mario at all. It's much closer to banjo/crash bandicoot style
