    I'll keep just the 4g63 and 6g7x on my list then for next time I go out.
    I thought about this video today while I was out and remembered to grab a set of rockers. Trip to the junkyard for a random connector and ended up with 2 decent 4g63 valve covers, a 2g e-prom ecu, a 1g hvac center dash piece with no broken tabs, a few misc. connectors I needed and a set of rockers I plan on cleaning and inspecting for spares. $80, good trip. Thanks for this awesome video.

    Could you do a video of pulling the rockers with the cams still in place?

    Great video! Its crazy as our 2017 camaro 2.0L turbo LTG engine has almost identical rockers.

    Hey man great job on these videos. Been watching them threw as I picked up a 2g eagle talon that blew either a head gasket or the t-25 really let go and took the oil seal with it as the head gasket looked good.
    Anyways really good info as I am pretty much rebuilding the whole engine and replacing a ton of parts. Still it was nice as it already has a 6 bolt in it. But learned a lot such as cleaning lifters and these rockers. Granted my inspection process means another trip to the junkyard to get another set.

    I'm going to assume that those 8 bad Rockers were with the 272 Cam.

    I was surprised because it looked like someone had removed the turbo this morning, there was still coolant dripping from the cut lines. Going up for sale immediately to fund car parts.

    I had the needle bearings come out of one of my rockers before. I picked them out and replaced the rocker. Less than 10 miles later the motor spun 2 connecting rod bearings.

    When you were checking the rockers valve contact face were there actually pits you could feel with the dental pick? sorry it is hard to tell by the video, and the wear on mine look different. There is only a small portion polished and not really any pitting. Really like the video series, all the detail is a really nice reference for as things come up.

    What about sourcing lash adjusters? I was hoping there would be something in that video, but alas there isn't. If I am gonna be taking rocker arms outta things I might as well grab the HLA's as well. Maybe I could find a set of OEM 3G revised ones.

    ive never seen a 4d68 in person too know this one but if it falls under the 16 valve single cam territory, then the same most likely applies.

    Alittle off topic from the cylinder head. Quick question, 4g63 6 bolt turbo block and the non turbo block, are the only difference between the two is that the turbo block has oil squirters and the non turbo doesn't?

    Aside from the 6g7x engines does any 4g6x engine also have them, I remember seeing a part number somewhere that said "4g6 - 16 valve" .
    Just curious I usually see SOHC galants in the junkyard and wanted to make sure they'd be the same. Also when they are soaking is it necessary to shake the container once a day or anything, or is the soak good enough?

    hey ya just wondering how long i need to keep the lifters in the kerosene sounded like you said a few weeks lol if so let me know and ill do just trying to do them all and also with the bearing caps for the head should i just wash them in kerosene thank you heaps :)

  • @Lif3snatcher
    @Lif3snatcher 12 років тому

    The 4g69 to my knowledge is just the 4g64 but reversed like the dsm 4g63 vs evo 4-9, so the head is virtually the same as the 4g64 so only thing usable is the valves
    I'm willing to bet if its a SOHC 16 valve head then the only thing it may share is the valves, The lifters and rockers are gonna be completely different.

    I'm sorry fellows for the folowers to be taken off the number 1 cylinder valve intake only you must have a valve spring compression tool

      Search for 4g63 lifter install with the cam in the car. There's a guy who shows how to do this with a flat blade screwdriver. You need the craftsman with the square shank. There's a trick. If you can get the followers out with the cam installed, you can get them back in.

    I took out my folowers to set my timing when I put them back the last one the number 1 piston valve it's to high to get the folower in is there a trick

      Look up the lifter video. Sounds like one may have more oil in it than the others. Bleed that down and purge it, and it will likely fit.

  • @4x4MadnessNZ

    sweet thanks and so what bits of the head need to be kept in order mine look all good is it just the valves , springs and keepers that need to be kept in the same spot or does it all need to be in the same spot in the head eg. rockers and lifters and i tryed pulling a lifter apart from your other vid and cant get the bottom piston out and cant get cap back on lol but ill prob upgrade as they are the 1st revision ones or can they just be soaked and drained till the kerosene comes out clean

    Dude, amazing work & explanations. Just a friendly suggestion; maybe can u do some videos 4 those of us who want to keep sorta of a "bone stock/by the book" kinda jobs. Don't mean 2 b pesky is just that I'm a big fan of the DSMs & seen so many people destroy these cars; hence their reputation 4 being unreliable. thanks again man.

    Question: do the rockers arms go in one place only or no? Since you just washed them prob dont know which is which

    • @Jafromobile
      @Jafromobile  8 років тому +1

      +xBlazed831x Nah, not so important if everything's in spec. The ones I cleaned in this video were being replaced with brand new rockers. I actually installed these in a completely different head that got a complete valve job. If you're taking it apart and putting it back together without changing anything else, it's probably a good idea to put them back in the same places so that they don't develop any new wear patterns, but if you're making changes, they're going to do it anyways.

  • @panayiotiskazaras7977
    @panayiotiskazaras7977 8 років тому

    one question because was strange...how the rocker arm can leave from its position ....?

    • @Jafromobile
      @Jafromobile  8 років тому +1

      Valve float. A condition when cam lobes rise and fall faster than the valve spring can react to those movements. Given a big enough cam with a weak enough valve spring, the cam follower becomes a can't follower. ;) Too much valve spring pressure can wipe cam lobes or break rocker arms. That's why your cam and valve spring selection are so important.

    Hey Jafro, all of my rocker arm bearings have a little play from side to side. Is that normal? or is it suppose to be stiff? Thanks, Gary

      ***** will diesel work too? I've look through some threads and people have used diesel as a washer.

    Why throw them out? Keep them in a bin with other scrap steel and sell them to the junkyard.
