i’m 21 and in college, and am often shocked with how little my peers know about basic history. if i were to ask the average student at my university who we fought in WW2, i’d imagine most of them couldn’t even tell me. I don’t understand how people can’t be fascinated by history, it’s how we got to where we are today.

It’s far too full of errors and outright lies, such as, “The United States raped Great Britain’s wealth and destroyed her economy through the draconian Lend Lease agreements.” That’s obviously a gross exaggeration, but the historian basically said that at 5:40 and I still cannot believe it. Britain and her pound and her economy tanked _because she did not protect her colonies from the Japanese, and those colonies saw that as the last straw and demanded emancipation after the war._ The men controlling Britain ordered invasions of non-mechanized countries, broke promises (Saudi Arabia, the Palestinians after WWII, as small examples) and took them to enrich themselves, thereby enriching England, especially. These were not kind takeovers, nor was the rule remotely benevolent….the English only wanted to get filthy stinking rich. Obviously, the native peoples had other ideas, because they were treated as subhuman in their own countries and the cash didn’t reach them. Naturally, the historian didn’t want to say that, and decided that the US was fair game because the world loves to hate us, out of sheer unmitigated, barely hidden jealousy!

Lend-Lease as an act of aggression by the US? The fact is, all the Allied countries pursued policies that were in their favor. What about Churchill's insistence on Allied campaigns in the Mediterranean in order to secure the Suez Canal and maintain contact with India and the rest of the Empire? Or is it only aggression when the US promotes its own interests?

It's called imperial colonialism. It's been around for 1000s of years. Do you have knowledge of history, what do you think Rome was, they raped and pillaged by force. The UK certainly wasn't the worst colonial powers. The Kingdom became bankrupt by the end of ww-2. They pretty much lost everything. They got their comeuppance 80 years ago, I don't know why you think that may be happening now.

Interesting how this documentary is a typical “history from above” style. It talks about an event and then quotes or talks about a popular or famous figure. It’s all like that throughout! X event, then the next day y person (Churchill, Stalin etc etc) said blah blah. It’s very typical “cheap” history, because it’s easiest to find what the leaders and famous said and did whereas it’s more difficult to find or use sources from regular people or soldiers who were really there in the ground! It’s the typical elite and famous people as “history!” History as the study of what famous and elite people did and said!!! That’s all, “the day before Churchill blah blah, the next week the emperor blah blah! So lame! You can’t notice it unless you study history where they teach you about the difference between history “from above” and history from the trenches!! It’s history defined as the study of famous and important people alone!!😂 it’s history as told by the courtiers of famous and important people, courtiers as “professors!” The reason you have the professors is to give it some credibility cause it’s told from so far above with little clue as to what’s happening on the street say to say with the “little” people! So you know a whole lot about famous people but almost nothing about what life was really like for people on the street. So so lame, and boring and typical!!!
