The hats on and hats off definitely got my attention. The first switch had me saying, "Wait, What just happened?"
Ha! Yeah, I'm sneaky that way. :-)
Enjoyed watching you tie this fly. What I'm looking for is what you point out on how you can cover a mistake. It makes tieing easier. Thanks for sharing. Until next time. 👍
Thank you Jim; I appreciate the kind words my friend!
Very unique to use a red bead in the center of the peacock herl. May try that when I go to tie some royal coachmans. As always, thanks Matt for posting. BZ
I agree it's pretty unique! I have seen a few others with beads in the body, but not many. :-)
Good morning Matt. I enjoyed how you snuck the hats in . Nice looking fly ! Thanks for the post !
Ha! Thanks Mike. :-)
AZ favorite for lakes, used to tie with red floss in the middle and a grizzly hackle up front. several variants out there under the name AZ peacock lady. still a very productive fly.
Awesome to hear Ralph! When researching this one I did see mention of this still being popular in Arizona. Thanks for the note. :-)
Yes. That’s it, the peacock lady. Knew I’ve tied one similar to this. I really like this Apache version. Thx Matt. 🙂
You're welcome Clyde! Always appreciate the comments my friend. :-)
Hi Matt. The caps caught my eye.Was hoping you would put on a toebogen with your patch on it.Great looking fly.Reminds me of a wingless RC with a butt hackle. When I clip hackles with sisors to clean them up I end up with little stubs.I have good twezers and I go old testament on them.If thou offends you pluck them out.Your right fish don't mind the stubs.Guess I have ocd. Ken
Ahhhh Ken- I actually DID order a few toboggans. I forgot about them as they haven't come in yet. But maybe soon! And PS: I'm dropping off a package for Cloie today. It's addressed to you and Linda so I assume you can get it to her. :-)
Nice looking pattern...may have to add this one to my box. Thanks, Matt. Have a great weekend.
Appreciate it Todd! It was a fun one. :-)
Nice to see one from my home state of Arizona! Looking forward to getting some savage merchandise when you get the store going. Thanks Matt!
You bet Troy! Most of us east coasters think of the desert when we think of Arizona. I guess there are more cold water mountain streams than we realize. :-)
Great job on the fly as usual Matt. Hats and stickers i'm in!
It won't be long! I'm hoping to have something set up and running in January or so. :-)
Awesome hats!! Yea I want one!! The whole time you was cutting video from hat to hat, I was thinking is he going to sell some!! Lol Good looking bug!
Someday soon Franky! And thanks for the note my friend. :-)
That's a cool pattern Matt. I don't remember ever seeing a fly with a bead in the middle maybe I don't get out enough, lol. I own one of your tan hats and It sits on the dash of my truck for ease of access, definitely got to pick up the denim version when they're available. All the best and Happy Holidays
Thanks Peter! I'll be sure to make an announcement when I can get some kind of storefront up and running. :-)
Cool looking fly Matt and it looks easy, will definitely have to try this one out
Thanks for the video
Thanks Dave! I appreciate it my friend. :-)
Hey Mr Miyagi... hat on, hat off ;o) Nice fly "sensei". Awesome hats, really like the two tone, looks good on you too. Glad to see you're adding a store to your "dojo". Happy days to you Matt :o)
Ha! Thanks man. It looks like I can afford to get the store kicked off in January with about six items offered. Two styles of hats, two different mugs, the sticker and some t-shirts. Setting up a store is a bigger pain than I thought! And for something that's going to make about twelve bucks a month. :-)
Hi from Rolla Missouri 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes
I'm going to tye this one!!! When I put down the lead wire and I take the tag and wrap it back over the peacock, it'll keep the fly from unwinding off the back of the fly. Thanks for your time and knowledge you are amazing to tyer!! Good health for you and your's 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes
Very interesting pattern Matt, it kinda peaks my imagination to step away from the conventional patterns and do some experiments. Thank for the video.
You bet Monty! Experimenting is one of the most fun things we do in fly tying. :-)
Great fly Matt. It’s Chad,(new name). Gotta love that tail. You know I have to get those hats! Have a great weekend my friend.
I like it Crow Daddy! And hey, I put a box in the mail to you this morning. A mug and sticker- just to say thanks for the materials a few weeks ago. :-)
I wonder why this fly caught your eye, maybe the detail, as in de Tail. Nice pattern, thanks Matt.
Hahaha... this is a great dad joke Lee! It's all in de tail. :-)
Great job Matt . It like a fun fly that it would catch a lot of fish. Have a great weekend Matt. Good luck on the store.
Thanks Butch! You have a great weekend too my friend. :-)
That’s an interesting fly! Thanks for showing such a variety. Glad you’re getting a store going..need a t-shirt.🙂I’m wearing your hat every day, caught lots of fish with it on!👌 I sent a box to you last week..to return address on box you sent me in October, hopefully it was the right place.😅 If not no biggie. Have a great weekend Matt! 👍 🎣
T-shirts coming in January Charlie! I could only afford to start with one color and two sizes (gray, in L and XL). Hopefully they'll look good. But I was pretty pleased with how the blue/gray hats came out. I haven't gotten a box from you yet but I'll keep on the look out for it. (And yes, the return address on my labels is the best one for me.) Have a great weekend my friend!
Good looking fly.
Love the pattern and tie of this one matt.great job.as always thank you matt!!
Thanks Mike! And happy belated birthday my friend. :-)
@@SavageFlies thanks matt!!
Probably thinking too much, but if you left that bead against the bare hook and gave it a little space it would act like a rattle. Just an idea. Keep the good stuff coming Matt, nice fly.
That is an interesting thought! I have seen nymphs with three beads for the body and I'm wondering if they could be kind of rattle-y. Possibly if you used an oversized bead. I'm not sure if they would make enough noise to catch a fish's attention though. Something to think about anyway...
Lol, good morning Matt!
Oh yes, I did see the hat all of them look cool. You have a great logo. When do the guide trips start on the Savage. I really enjoy what you are doing👍
Ha! Now that's a good idea Jim. Maybe I'll start guiding on the Savage when we finally retire and move out to the farm and I can fish it several days a week. :-)
@@SavageFlies That’s what I’am talking about. You could be an outfitter 😉
@@jimholland1592 Someday Jim. But I'd better learn how to catch the fish up here first!
Hi Matt . Thanks for another Great Video. Love the Hats 👍, another Fly that’s added to my to do list 🤞
You and me both John! With every book I get I add about six to my to-do list. But sometimes I still break out the old standard Pattern Encyclopedia and just flip through it for something fun and easy. :-)
@@SavageFlies I have The Fly Tying Fir Beginners ( bought on your review) By Peter Gathercole. How to Tie 50 Failsafe Flies. So my list is long & gets longer with every Video you Post on Utube 😀😀😀👍👍👍
Very kool fly Matt! Crazy day so I'm viewing this episode later than normal but it was worth the wait. Hackle and I aren't the best of friends yet but I'm pretty sure I'll take a stab at this pattern soon. Can't wait for the Savage Store to open for business and can't help thinking you'll be busier than you currently think. Guess we'll see, huh? Have a great weekend.
Ha! Yeah, I need to be careful not to let an online store get out of hand. It could be a ton of work for only a little bit of extra money. So I plan to do it as a fun side gig, certainly not to get rich. :-)
Matt! The new hat look good. It will look good on my truck dash, a long with the sicker I have on the back window. Like the fly. I'll but some in the box. Sort of like the music you had. Don't remember hearing it before. Look forward to your in next fly
Have a great week.
Absolutely Nich! I can't remember what music I put in this one. I have about three royalty-free options that UA-cam gives us and I just try to rotate through and switch it up every now and then. :-)
Love the pattern Matt! Love the merchandise
Appreciate it Mike!
Matt - somehow I missed this one in all of your videos. Just yesterday I was thinking "it'd be cool if Matt did a AZ Peacock Lady, or Apache Lady," and this video was 3rd on my homepage. Beautiful tie!
I was wondering if you where having trouble with bloopers and took a break and came back changed.. lol.
I'm glad to see you getting a storefront going. 👍👍👍
Ha! Speaking of bloopers, I had so many in this intro I could have made another clip at the end. :-)
Love the merchandise and like this pattern. I was looking at this pattern last week but don't have the beads, yet. So now that I've seen this fly tied, I'm putting forth the effort into finding the correct size beads to make this happen. Thanks Matt for sharing
Thanks Layton! I really couldn't remember where I got these glass beads. And the label on them just says, "D's Flyes, Denver, CO." And I've never been to a shop in Denver so I'm sure I got them online somewhere. But they are pretty good quality.
Love your style Matt.
I appreciate that Paul. Thanks for the note my friend!
I tried this fly in northern AZ and it works fantastic under a strike indicator.
That's awesome to hear!
Thanks Matt this one really looks neat
I’ve never seen a glass bead in the middle of a fly. That gives me some ideas now.
Yeah, there definitely aren't too many out there. But it is an interesting concept!
Good looking fly!
Thanks Thomas!
Neat pattern, good combination of materials.
Count me in for a hat
David
You got it David! I'll certainly make some kind of announcement in a video as soon as I get a store operating. :-)
Cool looking fly! Thanks for sharing another great video Matt! Cheers!
You bet John; appreciate the note my friend!
Good morning Sir. Awesome video buddy. This could definitely become my favorite that I’ve seen you tie so far. Just several things in its favor, my opinion only. To start with, my first double hackle that I remember?. The red glass bead is an attention getter. Then to top it off, double Peacock Hurl. Oh yeah, that works. I could stay busy tying this one, several times. Tie it exactly as it is shown. Or change the bead color, change the hackle color, change the size? I’d think you would build yourself a very versatile arsenal for multiple species??? But one thing for sure. It is an incredible fly and video. Thank you buddy. Truly appreciate all you do for us Matt. Also that new hat in the blue/gray is as attractive as this mornings fly, The Apache Lady.
Wow Jeff, thanks for this great comment! You could definitely tie this up in a few different color combos. There are three other flies that come to mind with two hackles. The Renegade, the Smoky Mountain Fore and Aft, and the Little Yellow Stone. I'm sure there are a few others out there but these are three I've tied before. Have a great weekend my friend!
@@SavageFlies Thanks Matt. I appreciate the other three flies that have the double hackle. I will take a look at them for sure. Hope you have a great weekend as well Sir. I just took a real quick look at the double hackle flies you mentioned to me. Pretty cool flies in their own respect. Now you know that the “Little Yellow Stone” is going to be one that I will be partial to. We will definitely be getting that one wet in the Chippewa and Eau Claire Rivers. Thanks again for the mention. Now I need to go back and watch the complete video of you tying it. I have now completed just over 100 of your videos.
Nice hats!!!
Thanks Alex! I'll certainly make an announcement in one of the videos when I get a way to sell them online. :-)
@@SavageFlies I picked up that fancy bobbin holder you picked up a while ago by smhaen. Got to tell you, I'm really liking it. Really smooth thread feed as I'm tying and super comfortable in my palm.
@@cheflexx778 Awesome to hear Alex! The only issue I've had with it is sometimes my fingers accidentally loosen the barrel and it messes up how I had the tension set. It hasn't happened often, but enough times that I notice.
pretty cool pattern thanks for showing
really like this one matt thanks....see ya joe
Good morning Matt. ☕️time and fly tying. Enjoyed this morning tie. Liked the hats and the new style looked very good. Should be good sellers once you have your store up and running. Did you ship my coffee mug yet? Take care Matt and have a great weekend.
Ahhh!!! You know I've had a mug boxed up for you since the summer! But guess what, I'm off today and am actually heading to town in a little bit so I can go by the PO. (I ship everything from home these days so very rarely go into the PO in town, but have to for the customs forms to ship anything out of the country.) So I will today! I'll email you a tracking number this afternoon. :-)
Oh wait! I should double check. Still going to box 1786?
@@SavageFlies if you sent it it will get here. If you haven’t shipped it you can send it to my new address. I’ll email it to you.
@@SavageFlies That will work. It can still go to the address you have but I’ll email you my new one.
@@Jd-yc3gw perfect! I’ll be leaving for town in about 30 min…
Thanks for sharing that is one cool pattern.
You're welcome my friend! I appreciate the note. :-)
I feel like a nice little variation on this would be a brass or tungsten bead on the front, help it get down a little if you need it
Good morning Sir Matt, Great looking fly and i'm sure i'll be tying up some of those. I'm very much looking forward to the Savage Fly Store in the Future. have you seen the red pheasant tippets? I think this fly would look good with them because the red bead. I will try both. thank you Sir Matt.
Thanks Edward! I have seen dyed pheasant tippets but have never bought any. Maybe I should buy a whole head of a couple different colors as the red ones do look really cool!
Love the simplicity of this pattern. I know my wife has beads in her craft room. Will have to talk her out of some. As I like to experiment I can see many different color variations with feathers and beads to boot! Love the hat and would definitely get one when you are set up. Did you receive my email on the DIY tacky wax and fly floatant? Thanks for all you do for us fly tying enthusiasts. Continued blessings my friend.
Oh... yes, I did! I had forgotten about that project! I've got some time off in December for experimenting so might have to give it a try myself. Thanks for the reminder!
You could put small weight under the Peacock
I did think about doing that Mark but the recipe didn't mention it and I thought it might make the body too thick for this size bead. Probably worth a shot though.
I was trying to figure out why you were going back and forth from having a hat on to not and switched hats also. I just figured that you ended up shooting the footage a few times and spliced the video together.
Very cool fly I buy one of your shirts I can’t see them on your store
Thanks Wayne! I only have two shirts on the store- a t-shirt and button down.
Do you find just wrapping the peacock here stays durable ?
Honestly Hughie, I've never fished this fly. I'd say it's not the most durable pattern, but then again, I usually lose my flies long before a fish's teeth cut through the material. Occasionally I'll have a single fly that will be doing so well that it gets pretty shredded, but mostly I donate them to the trees before that happens. :-)
Interesting & pretty fly. I wonder what fishing situation led to this design. Btw, from all the comments about hats, I think you’re going to need to get a lot more. :-)
I have no idea what led to the creation of this one. Not a whole lot of written history on it. Re the hats... I'm starting out with 48, between the tan and blue/gray. I'd say that will last a pretty good while. :-)
Okay I can't find the hats help
I let everybody know as soon as I have a store up and running! It'll probably be sometime in the new year. :-)
Can someone help me find the hats
Marty- I don't have a store up and running yet. I'm slowly buying some merchandise and hope to get it set up in January. :-)
Tie it with a turquoise bead and you could call it the Navajo Lady.
What if the bead could move a little? 😉
Can you show us your favorite sea run cutthroat fly? :)
I don't have one Austin! I've never fished for sea run cutthroat, or steelhead or salmon either. Someday I will but I don't get to the west coast too often. I'll make a note if I ever see any patterns that are particularly good for sea run cutthroat and add it to my to-do list though...
@@SavageFlies aww dang! If I had the means to I would totally host you out here in the Pacific Northwest!
Well, that's different... LOL
Hi! Will it be possible to buy the hat even if I live overseas (Sweden)? All the best from the North 🐟🐟🐟!
Hello! I do not know yet. I have to figure out what shopping cart software I will be able to afford and if they offer international shipping. If not, reach out to me sometime in the new year and I'll see if we can figure something out. :-)
Ok, l hope for the best! 😄
let me know like the blue hat
