Testing Space Lasers for Deep Space Optical Communications (Mission Overview)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лис 2024
- How might lasers revolutionize deep space communications? NASA will test high-bandwidth laser (or optical) communications for the first time beyond the Moon with a pioneering technology demonstration called Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC).
If successful, this kind of laser communications technology could be used to transmit large volumes of data - such as streaming video and higher-resolution science observations - from robotic spacecraft and from future astronauts exploring Mars.
DSOC is attached to NASA’s Psyche spacecraft and will send and receive signals during the first two years of Psyche’s six-year journey to the metal-rich asteroid of the same name. During its demonstration period, DSOC will not be transmitting Psyche data, but rather its own set of data. The experiment involves a transceiver on the spacecraft along with two ground stations - one at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Table Mountain facility and the other at Caltech’s Palomar Observatory.
Psyche and DSOC are expected to launch in October 2023

The DSOC experiment is sponsored by the Technology Demonstration Missions program within NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate and the Space Communications and Navigation program within the agency’s Space Operations Mission Directorate. The agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory manages the DSOC project for NASA.

This is truly Amazing…Good work Everyone🙌
I thank the universe designer for creating all the comic laws that enable this experience after seeing what the engineers have accomplished!
This is amazing technology will eventually advance the concept on interstellar exploration as well as travel?
What's needed is a large number of small probes in Solar orbit, each with a large capacity data storage, several lasers and laser receivers, and various cameras and other sensors. Also orbit one around every planet, every moon, every large asteroid. That way data could "bucket brigade" back to Earth by laser beam from any probe, anywhere in the solar system, if equipped with laser communication. The relays would themselves be used to collect information and could be used together as a synthetic aperture telescope across a wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The trick would be coordinating observations with sensors spaced several light seconds to light hours apart.
good work nasa and jpl good luck
At the start of the video this guy sounds like Mr. Fox from Adventure Time
So astronauts in spacecraft can be albe to watch video streaming without any buffering?
More laser beams working in parallel would increase the bandwidth I would say
¿Es posible hacer lo mismo y a distancias infinitas pero con entrelazamiento cuántico?
Just incredible
What data rate do you expect?
This is a game changer!
Omnidirectional interplanetary coordination of data collection needed for gravitational mapping time referencing efficient space travel trajectories!
Simply put “babies” stepping into future efficient space travel!
So the first Dial-up connection on MARS but with laser. Laser-up Connection.
If there is internet there its all good. We can move there
Are we going to see telecommunications stations dotted throughout space to relay information?
Ох нет , все передается по проводам в море
just hope that aliens won't mistaken that itbis a queue for war
Did you start testing this 2 years ago?
Martians will be getting Internet soon, at this rate 😂 seriously though, that is an amazing accomplishment!
We have the tightbeam!
Would be cool to see quantum entanglement used for instant communication over long distance if it could be done
Don't just blabber with random facts you learned from conspiracy UA-cam channel
@myhandle__ quantum entanglement is real and has also been postulated in scifi novels for many years. His response has nothing whatsoever to do with any conspiracy.
You just might need to do some research for yourself.
@@ilox11It is real phenomenon, but it can't be used to convey information, or that would break causality. Scifi concepts often have these kinds of ideas for instant communication, they just don't apply in reality.
@@ilox11 Communication faster than the speed of light is impossible - quantum entanglement does not permit instant comms. Using SciFi novels as a justification shows you are clueless.

Exactly, good future .
Very good ❤
about a month ago i recorded in the sky thinking they was shooting stars but they wasn’t for sure must of been and army of alliens or something cause they all seem about 4 feet apart from each other and was moving in one direction all line up i was in the mountains when i saw this well my wife did and i started recording with my phone but with that i saw it was more than enough we are not alone in this galaxy of ours
So you don't know what it was therefore it MUST be aliens - that is soft minded thinking. "4 feet apart from each other" - what nonsense! How did you arrive at that figure when you have no idea of the altitude of the objects? What you saw was almost certainly a Starlink satellite internet constellation being deployed into orbit a few hundred miles above you - or a constellation that is already in orbit. American aerospace company SpaceX, has thousands of these small satellites in Low Earth Orbit & they appear in the sky in groups that follow the same path.
We’ve just welcomed the borg.
Honestly the Borg will be a welcome change to the current rule of human based government
Nah, we need to welcome puro...
@@TallacusIs the government even human?
So in JC's Avatar with a few relay satellites could we achieve interstellar communication and how long will the delay be as a laser signal would have to travel 5 light years?
The delay would be 5 years. No information can travel faster than the speed of light (according to our current understanding of physics).
Good idea.
They should be sending it to Orion's Belt. That's where life is at. I'm not talking about life though the lens of a microscope either.
A complex payload, sleepless nights
Far out! 👍
Soon alien will attack us
R they even breathing or am I to high llf doesn't look like a breath of air was took lol
Good! now we can make the best Minecraft server for the whole solar system now we need a motherboar that run ddr10 rams with overclocking intel proccessor quantum server and 120 rtx 4070 graphics card. Imagen this
Player 1: Buddy where you from ?
Player 2: I'm from Mars!
Player 1: No way *pogger*
That would also been a groundbreaking for everyone. Imagen that would discover other species that pirate our game just to sneak in and study us trought there.
Déjà qu'ils nous démontent qu'ils peuvent aller sur la lune après on verra
Hope you don't go and burn down an island accidentally.
👍👍
Hmm
ok
Elon musk can do ❤❤❤
awesome~»¢o̲̲̲̿̅̿๏ℒ«~
A gravitational wave detector would take up very little space
Deep space communication? Have these people never seen Battleship?? Yeah lets just reveal our location to a potential threat somewhere out in space.. the only thing out of this is you brought all the countries to come together to fight a bigger threat lovely...
Dolt. If there are aggressive aliens close enough to detect a laser then they will be able to also see the Earth & human activity on Earth. Lasers in space cannot be seen - there's no atmosphere to reflect the light.
So Marjorie Taylor greene wasn't nuts
💀
The only people that are nuts are Dems.@@gregmandel6339
Yes she... 100%...
😂 are they Jewish lasers though?
Ronald Reagan’s star wars program finally being used for something useful. She’s bona fide insane.
😂
Please don't use this on Hawaii cough cough.
Thought it was only me . 😂 battleship mode 😷
Блин клоуны, до луны доберитесь для начала😂😂😂
Pretty cool. But how many people's starvation deaths could have been prevented if this money was spent trying to expand space technology.?
True but the poor will always be with us. We still need to develop new technology to advance us forward.
That said, we all should donate to help the poor and hungry.
If we don't start colonizing other planets, humanity is done. There won't be anyone rich or poor left on earth, eventually this planet will be uninhabitable.
I'm not saying we shouldn't do more to end famine, but these are separate issues.
😮💨 Awesome..now please end all financial suffering , its getting old
😢😂 чё за бред сивой кобылы? ⚔️🆘🌎😱🇺🇲
