  • September First arrived and my Saskatraz colony made the decision to swarm out and land on a nearby Blue Spruce Tree.
In this video, I walk you through a swarm and how I figure out which hive it came from.
Using a net to collect them and installing with better-comb, they should have a very good chance at surviving winter.
    Thank you for watching!

Slatted Racks Make it Easy to Hive Swarms by providing that extra space below, they are also nice when doing Oxalic Acid treatments by providing a space between the bottom board and frames (tell them Frederick Dunn sent you) :

If you need to feed your bees for their survival, I highly recommend Rapid Round (syrup or dry) feeders in your top feeder shim:

In 2019, I started five swarm-capture colonies in mid-September, I assumed they were all doomed, but hived them anyway. I am convinced that the pre-drawn BetterComb provided them with the boost they needed for immediate resource storage and brood production. ***Lesson learned - Use Wired Support Frames Only*** If I'm hiving a swarm, or installing a spring package, my hives with BetterComb outperformed the rest. Follow this link to learn more and if you buy, tell them Frederick Dunn sent you... will you receive a discount? Nope... but it's nice to say where you learned about it :)

I recently purchased (I paid full price, no freebies) the BetterComb wiring kit. If you think you are going to use a lot of these, then get the kit and you'll save $$$ plus you can wire your own frames for any kind of wax foundation install.
