Nice review. I've had the GH5 for eight days now. I'd also highlight the following noteworthy features - the GH5 has both waveforms and vector scope. As for video autofocus, it's very tuneable. You can dial in sensitivity and focus speed - I'm sure you just left it at the default, and being new, hardly anyone knows about it (p 167 in the manual).
I agree. Also, everything they are saying is completely ignored by attention deviating to the woman in the background. Not because she is good looking or not (or is a woman per se), but because she is moving.
I think a lot of the that to do with the lenses we had and shooting at f16/22 like we were. I got the sense that the sensor can resolve much better detail.
i hope u guys can do some stress test/durability long record under hot sun. the response time when buffering. (when buffer, press the menu button or do some adjustment) since this one doesnt have small screen does the menu easy to navigate? I tried sony a7ii today first time, and damn it was all over the place. (5dm2 long time user)
Thanks for watching, Hafiz. The GH5 never buffered when we were shooting with it, so that wasn't an issue. Menu navigation was good as well. And yes, the Sony menus are notoriously bad.
Menu navigation wasn't terrible, but there was some confusion between what was in the main menu, what was in the Q menu, and what could be accessed by the touch screen. I wouldn't say it was very intuitive.
im still contemplating between gh5 and sony line up. gh5 has the 180fps and is a new model sony menu system is just a pain in the aaa. I need time to look for format option. quite annoying.
love this channel, very honest and great tests. it's great to understand what limitations there are with the GH5 as opposed to hearing only positives. you guys answered everything I was dying to know. thank you (PS I'll still buy one).
How does this stack up to the X-T2? It seems that the GH5 has the leg up in terms of video, but is the margin great enough to make up for the more balanced photo/video of the Fuji?
I honestly don't think so. Mostly because stock in the US has been so low that it's been very difficult to pick up. There is no doubt that the GH5 is better for a pure video shooter, and I shoot mostly video, but I'd love to see some clear side by sides of the GH5 and the X-T2 in both still and video to see if the Fuji is worth investing as an all-rounder, or if the sacrifice in video quality and features are too much for a video shooter to consider.
I'll talk with Jay P about it. You aren't the first person to ask about the X-T2; we've just had a lot of other, slightly more fresh cameras to talk about. It may be time, though! I would love to get my hands on one to try out.
A simple question to your very interesting and relaxed discussion: If your goal is to shoot a docummentary in a foreign country with nearly no extra lightning available and lots of unexpected situations would you prefer the Canon C100 daf or the GH5? Thanks.
I personally would choose the C100 FOR SURE. Never underestimate the benefit of internal ND's, onboard XLR ports, and good pre-amps for documentary. The C100 is excellent in low light (almost as good as an A7s in my opinion), and I still prefer Canon color to almost anything else. Having said that, if you need 4K then the C100 just won't work.
I agree. Lately I have shot a 15 minutes long, docu (with professional staff) you might be interested in. How can I send an email to you with the details?
Thanks for your answer. I shot a 15 minutes teaser for a bigger project, with very rare to find content about a movie production (I could send you a link via email) produced with professional dop and editor a.s.o. and watched it on the big screen. Quality is completely okay, even without being 4k, shot with the a7r II and a Canon 70d. My take is, besides better detail, and being better for grading, lots of problems are related to 4k. The fine detail you can achieve is also a curse. F.e. it makes women look much older, you need special make up, different lightning, different stage design and many more things to consider.
I ordered the GH5 just trying to figure out the right lens to put on it for both video and photo with a $1500ish budget. I'm thinking the new panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 and maybe a prime lens. I currently have a Canon 70d with Tamron 24-70 and 50mm f/1.8 and I love both those lenses. Any suggestions for the GH5?
This is a great review ! Keep up having great thoughts about Cameras. It helps us understand their strengths and limits. From a great fan of your channel.
*18MB jpegs (not 16), lowest iso is 100 (not 200). Pretty fair review! I don't know too many others who managed to give a whole camera view as you did rather than getting stuck on one or two features. Good job.
A couple of comments: IMO you can't review still image sharpness with in-camera jpegs unless you turn down the baked-in noise suppression. Panasonic tends to be very aggressive with their default settings. Look at raw files or turn that noise suppression down. Although the zoom lens you tested is new, there are better options for m43 if you are evaluating quality and/or need more options in depth of field control. Fast (f1.2) primes also allow you to shoot in lower light without raising the iso.
Thanks for the review guys. Real insightful! I was curious how you did the lighting for the model during your video tests? If you have an opportunity to let me know, I'd appreciate it.
The autofocus isn't going to rock, but I question what autofocus setting you were using in that shot. The fact you didn't mention specifically what type of autofocus settings you were using makes me wonder if it was operator error?
We tried it with tracking and face recognition. I didn't see stellar results with either, but there are other options too, if you don't mind keeping your subject in the same part of the frame the whole shot. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else got better results.
Kenneth Merrill But did you go into the menu and adjusted the sliders? I have seen way better results from people who set the camera up the right way before shooting.
I think that this camera looks awesome for the price. Low light maybe it's not the best, especially compared to the A7SII. But with a metabones you get a package that it's unbeatable for the price.
Good vid that explains some specs I was interested in. With that MFT kit lens you seem a bit limited. Let's not forget how easy it is to build out on that body - speedbooster and attach nice Canon/Nikon glass and a good rig with matte box. Interesting possibilities here at very low cost.
ananas6969 All those are serious money, buddy. Speedbosters, metabones adapters, you're talking about 600 dollars here. Plus the autofocus might suffer heavily, already not being stellar. Plus this is not a cheap camera anymore, i mean versus the others Gh series, when they came out new
Adrian Pocea Ok, but still for $2600 I can use my collection of glass on the best 4K for bitrate and color depth internal recording. My aim is video, not so much stills. Speedbooster gets you closer to full frame also. Just not hitting on the low-light as compared to a Sony, which is still higher cost for body only.
The lack of detail is in part due to the sensor and but also like you guys mentioned due to the lens. Slap the oly 40-150, 75, new 25 1.2, or the panasonic leica 42.5 and you'll get that eyelash detail. I even use the cheap sigma 60mm f2.8 and get pretty amazing detail.
Great review...thank you! I'm on the fence. Currently shooting a Olympus M5 MKII & Nikon D500...and Nikon D4. The two Nikons are godzillas compared to the M5. Appreciate your expert assessments and will most likely add the GH5 to my inventory when prices adjust during the holidays!
Yeah I would love to spend more time with all these cameras we review, but unfortunately we typically have to condense everything into a few hours for the shoot. It means a lot of stuff gets left out, but it also makes it affordable to do. Compromises, I guess.
Thanks for this! Awesome as always. Did you set anything specific up for the continuous focus test? Can you recall what settings you used? ua-cam.com/video/Vs4bdQUzBCM/v-deo.htmlm36s I'm not getting good results in that regard (for stills) so I'm wondering if it's down to the settings I'm using (but I have also had my camera freeze a few times, so maybe I just got a bad unit..) THANKS!
If this had a FF sensor there's no way it would have the amount of features it has at the price point it's charging. FF mirrorless is priced substantially higher without having nearly as much in terms of video features or even still features (no dual cards, no fully articulating screen, no touch screen, no joystick, etc). An equivalent FF sensor specced out like this would cost at least 2x this and you'll have larger, heavier, and probably more expensive lenses. FF has its uses and applications but it's not always FF or bust.
Most honest review of the GH5 so far, obviously not paid by Panasonic. I pre-ordered this three months ago but cancelled after the UK photography show two weeks ago as nobody from Panasonic would be honest with me or directly answer my questions about low light, ISO and noise. I know have the Canon 5D Mk iv and my work is stills so there is no comparison, if it was about video then the cheaper GH5 would be a good option but hey rumoured firmware update on the 5D iv coming up! I will have no problem shooting the Milky Way when I visit Machu Pichu, I believe I made the correct decision for my needs however both are great cameras in their categories.
I would say it's in the top 10 maybe but I could be wrong. It's just finally good to see an honest review rather than pre-release paid "reviews". I'm shooting the unboxing tonight cannot wait!
The cameras are totally different and for different audiences. The canon is a full frame and the panny a M43. It all comes down to what you are shooting, how you are shooting and whether you are making money off of the camera.
Bob Hanuman totally agree, for my needs I went with the full frame. In an ideal world I could have both - you can never have enough toys! But yes two different products aimed at different audiences. What disappoints me are the marketing staff working for Panasonic according to whom the GH5 takes better stills than every camera on the market...! And apparently you are not supposed to take images over 1600 ISO.... I am curious to see what the GH6 will be like as the tech behind M4/3 sensors develops further - great camera but I opted with the 5D M5 for my specific needs. If I was a fully fledged UA-camr I maybe have opted for the GH5 :-)
Objectively, the camera is a homerun and I expect sales to reflect that. Absolutely usable up to ISO 3200 for video.I personally think one of the drawbacks of the Sony a7 success (I own one) is the increasing obsession with pixel peeping noise. The video footage from it, properly exposed is absolutely gorgeous. For the record, grading footage with FilmConvert by default adds noise to the footage. So if you shoot vlog-l, and color correct it in say Resolve, THEN grade using FilmConvert, you just added noise/grain. it's part of the look of the grading software. The fairest review of this camera should be a shoot and process by hand. And as recommended by Panasonic apply NR as needed. vlog-l by design is not clean out of the camera. But to be fair, neither is Sony slog2 or slog3. Those are also noisy gammas, not talked about a such because the sony are still super clean camera but absolutely slog is also a noisy gamma. Hopefully, it grades out, but not always. Anyway, too man features to go over on this camera. But, imo, I think it's a homerun and other manufacturers have a tough road to plough this year.
Film Convert only adds noise if you set it to. I always set the "Grain" to zero, especially for tests like this. I didn't see any noise in the image after grading it; so I'm not sure if you're referring to this video or not. I Honestly thought the video from the GH4 was very clean rated at 800 ISO or less. Maybe 1600.
Also, I would love to grade it by hand, but our timeline is usually very very short (too short honestly) for these reviews. So I just do what I can! Hope it's helpful to some people.
The grain is usually on by default and you might be surprised at the number of people who neglect to turn it off... And at least Panasonic provides the LUT to convert vlog to Rec 709. that speeds things up a bit :)
Unless I'm shooting raw or a very robust codec like ProRes 4444, I try not to shoot flat gamma profiles in low light situations because essentially what you're doing is desaturating your colors and cramming your signal into a very narrow luma range. If there's a lot of light, and if the camera has a really strong data rate, that's not a problem at all. But when you combine not much light with not much data being recorded in the first place, then when you try to grade your image later, it will fall apart much more quickly. I was just on a shoot tonight with my C300 II, in a low-light situation. And I went from shooting C-log 3 to C-log 1, and then I just gave up and shot Rec709 the rest of the night because I noticed that I was seeing banding in some of the shadows. At 2500 ISO, there wasn't enough light to really work the flat gamma. I'm sure there are a lot of other people who could explain it better than I just did, on here.
Thanks for the reply. Just one more question. When the firmware update comes out for shooting 4k at 10bit 422 at 400Mbits would that hold up in low light situations up to 1600 or 3200 ISO?
I honestly can't say. Even some cameras like the Red Epic MX, with a massive raw data stream, just aren't very good in low light. It's typically less about the data rate than it is about the ability of the pixels to accept light. My guess--pure speculation--is that the 400 Mbps boost won't help with the low light, but it will help with the image grade-ability. In other words, if you really start to twist your image up with color grading, you won't start to see noise as fast as you would currently (which honestly isn't even fast. I think the GH5 is much more grade-able than a lot of competitors with flat profiles).
It's not the first mirrorless to have 10 bit video. The Blackmagic Pocket did that years ago. 12 bit raw as well. I'm not dissing the GH5 at all. If it suits my needs I'll use one.
Blackmagic cameras are not stills cameras. Though "mirrorless" technically applies to any cinema camera these days, it's typically used to reference the new wave of mirrorless stills cameras. Like everyone else, that's how we're using the term.
i love your reviews - an observation - instead of merely mentioning 'pro' settings or what it means to be a commercial photographer half way through your review, perhaps start by setting the bar high, how to approach a shoot, the equipment, the knowledge etc... a disclaimer of sorts - dumbing down our industry, permitting viewers to actually believe ALL they need is a fully auto digital body, kit lens, no flash system or the knowledge of lighting or ASA vs ISO and the camera's sensor range/light range - and what post is today vs what getting a roll of film developed meant about the art and relationship between the photographer and developer - how they both fit into a photographer's work flow, is why people expect to only pay $500/$1000 for a wedding photographer, and why a business doesn't understand the difference between a day rate of $3500 with 20yrs exp and watching your review, running out to buy the gh5, kit lens and thinking they just saved money shooting their own product. it's clear more and more of what is becoming the 'norm' in 'reviews' is picking 5 features of any given camera, pitting them against either the previous model or competitor's while leaving out HOW a camera is just a tool in a vast array of gear, experience and talent.
Good points all around. We try really hard to reiterate that any camera is just a tool, and there are a lot of skills and other equipment needed to actually produce a professional image. I think the rest of Jay P's channel is actually a testament to that. I feel like we're doing a pretty good job of not talking up any camera as a solution to anyone's professional challenges, but we'll be extra careful in the future. Thanks!
Great to see some Panasonic love here! I don't think I'll make the jump ( I have a GH4) but this definitely is interesting! Also as side note Just as viewer I was totally confused on the ISO tests I had to rewind it to figure out you were testings STILL ISO ( should be obvious lol ) so when the second iso test came up I was like what???. maybe post up a video tag that says still's and video' ISO. anyhow not complaining just suggestion.
"I don't know who the hell's gonna put an anamorphic on this camera" Dude! C'mon, there's lots of people doing anamorphic on the old GH's, do a little research before doing a review!
Err no its not the first, the Leica SL has now been out for over a year with 4K 4:2:2 10-bit format. However Leica work hand in glove with Panasonic so no surprise there. The GH5 is a great camera and it costs a fifth of the price of a Leica SL ;-)
"Think it's one of the best options for video at this price point" So non committal! Have some god damn conviction. It is the best video camera at this price point period. It it one of the best video cameras period. People on UA-cam use too many qualifiers in sentences.
I didn't mean to infer she wasn't, I just noticed her listening to you guys (understandably so) go on about the camera in the first couple of minutes. Sort of like how my wife would act if I were going on about one of my cameras! (She loves the output, she's just not a camera gear geek like I am) ;0)
This camera creates a lot of hype, and i totally like that, cause i cheer for Panasonic a lot, versus Sony or Fuji. It sells like crazy today, everybody was just desperate to put their hands on it. It created a myth even before people had it. But no, with the firmware update rumored from Canon for 5div, which will nake the crop factor 1.29 and add C log and 3 k video, i am holding to my Canon. This camera cannot get even close to that in the stills department. But for the videographers it will be next hottest thing and it will give the flimsy, poor battery life, intricated menus, crappy screen Sonys a run for their money. Sony will still have the low light on their side, though
I heard about that firmware update for Canon as well, taking it to 4k. I think this camera really shines when it comes to video, but I did enjoy shooting stills with it as well.
Let's be clear, i am tempted like crazy by it, my fingers are itchy to press the order button on Amazon, where is not back ordered. But no, i will hold myself, we became way too obsessed about gear lately , which makes sense for you guys, with a popular video channel and a large base of customers. But for us, simple people, it is just too much money pumped in gear versus the financial outcome of it. I have the Canon 5div, the flagship of the leading brand in the photo industry, i should be happy with it. Ideas for content and more customers is what i miss, eventually some new lenses, not a new body, no matter how amazing it is.
I appreciate your reply a lot. I read about the rumored 5DIV update a couple days ago, and if it turns out to be true, I can't see too many reasons why the 5D wouldn't become a top contender for DSLR video again. I still prefer the Canon look to everything else, and I like C-log better than S-log and the rest because it's much less aggressive. As for stills, the 5D is a really great option.
Kenneth Merrill Thanks for the appreciation. It's been 6 months now, since i moved to US, ( film school graduate in Europe), that i watched video after video, review after review, polemics after polemics, for...what? In my years at the film school we were happy to film with a Betacam or a SVHS camera leased by the film school, we needed state funding to use real film and post processing in Budapest ( we didn't have Kodak labs in Bucharest). But we were happy and full of ideas and we couldn't even dream about the quality of a, let's say, even Canon 70d nowadays. Now everything is here, the tools are in our hands and the content lacks, sorrowful. All i see is short movies on youtube with A7sii to emphasize how good is in low light but a total lack of content, of creative spark. I see timelapses on canyons, meanwhile the superb Tangerine movie was filmed on three i phone 5s. So the tools are here, in our hands, is time for CONTENT
Thank you for for talking about the photography quality of this Photo Camera and not just doing a video review. This is a photography camera with video capabilities not a video camera and should be reviewed as such!
Is it though? ;) You're definitely right. It's NOT a video camera! But at the same time, I think video is the most compelling reason to get one. There are other options that I would personally prefer for photography. Thanks for chiming in!
Seriously? No educated buyer is going to be getting a GH5 to just shoot photos. There are several better options for stills cameras at similar or lower price points. Regardless of the dslr form factor, both Panasonic and their users know that the real selling point of the GH series is the professional quality video capabilities in compact budget-friendly package. It's clearly what Panasonic has chosen to emphasize in the features and marketing of this camera.
this is a great informative video about a camera that's more made for Video Now grab an Olympus MFT OMD 1 MKII and do a video about a camera regards, Rick
"6K photo" does not shoot 6K, it shoots 18MP JPEG in 3:4 ratio For 6K you need 6000 pixels wide shot, and sensor in GH5 is 5184 pixels wide. This would be like 5'2" and 180 ponds guy claiming he is 6' tall because 180 pounds is normal weight for 6' tall male. Pure marketing BS.
False Equivalence! A 6' tall 180lbs man is 10x more likely to pick up a beautiful woman than a 5'2 180lb man whereas a 6k camera is only 25% times more likely to get work than a 5.2k
Yeah it wasn't until we had shot everything that I realized the true size of those "6K" stills. I don't know why they don't just call it "5K" stills...
In fact those are video extracted jpegs which are far far away from burst raw files from dslr's. When you look closer to this camera in terms of photo it's nothing more than an amateur x2 crop factor body not worth 2000$. Perfect for video but greatly overpriced for photo.
Poor model. the two just talks while she waits...for some reason I didnt listen to you guys...I just looked at the model in the background and felt pity for her.
yep iso800 on m4/3 is crap also iso200 on FF is crap only iso50 on LargeFormat is maybe ok for me... (FF iso200 i hide myself and watch it's pics on a mini smart phone which is 20 feet away so i dont see the noise... and my friend here beside me also agrees with me..., so it must be the truth) yep
Nice review. I've had the GH5 for eight days now. I'd also highlight the following noteworthy features - the GH5 has both waveforms and vector scope. As for video autofocus, it's very tuneable. simianinc Great of you to mention sir. I hope they do a new review when they know the camera better.
You made my day. Good info!
Why did you guys do the first dialogue with the poor model just standing in back.... so awkward
Croo ookie totally agree with you.
She has hairy armpits, who cares?
I agree. Also, everything they are saying is completely ignored by attention deviating to the woman in the background. Not because she is good looking or not (or is a woman per se), but because she is moving.
Croo ookie not as awkward as when he says "creamy"
She's gorgeous.
how come the video is so soft?
Apparently there are some adjustments you can make to it. Hopefully those will help. We used it in the default mode.
I think a lot of the that to do with the lenses we had and shooting at f16/22 like we were. I got the sense that the sensor can resolve much better detail.
yes i'm curious to see with perhaps a sharper faster primecinelens what would be the look.
the log mode seems to give a lot of freedom to grade.
i hope u guys can do some stress test/durability

We do what we can
Hey guys, were those hand held image stabalized shots just stabalized from the body only? Or the lens also?
Great review guys! You actually checked out a lot of points I was very interested. Can't wait till mine arrives tomorrow! Thank you guys!
Awesome! Can't wait to hear what you think. Let us know!

Thanks Spinner! Use our affiliate links and we'll get a small kickback which we'd really appreciate! Thanks for watching.
what macbook pro stats would you recommend for smooth 4k video editing?
Gonna rock the GH4 until the price on this comes down.
How does this stack up to the X-T2? It seems that the GH5 has the leg up in terms of video, but is the margin great enough to make up for the more balanced photo/video of the Fuji?
I don't know! I really want to give the X-T2 a try, as I love Fuji cameras. Is it too old for us to do a review?
I honestly don't think so. Mostly because stock in the US has been so low that it's been very difficult to pick up. Love my GH4. Can't wait to get my hands on this one. Thanks for the review.
I have a weird question. GH5 compared to C200, how big ist the difference in DR?
A simple question to your very interesting and relaxed discussion:
If your goal is to shoot a docummentary in a foreign country with nearly no extra lightning available and lots of unexpected situations would you prefer the Canon C100 daf or the GH5? Thanks.
I personally would choose the C100 FOR SURE. Never underestimate the benefit of internal ND's, onboard XLR ports, and good pre-amps for documentary. The C100 is excellent in low light (almost as good as an A7s in my opinion), and I still prefer Canon color to almost anything else.

Joey Wilson go the Panasonic 25mm 1.7!!
Thanks for the great review. Can you tell us wich camera you used to shot the review? I like the image you get...
We used the Sony a7Rii. Here's our affiliate link: amzn.to/2nFxtVg
thank you!
Hey guys I'm thinking about buy a metabones XL for the gh5 and put on a sigma 18-35..what you think ?
This is a great review ! Keep up having great thoughts about Cameras. It helps us understand their strengths and limits. From a great fan of your channel.
Thanks so much Makha.

Excellent review! I've been so excited to upgrade ever since rumors hit. Thanks as always.
Thanks for watching!
A couple of comments:
IMO you can't review still image sharpness with in-camera jpegs unless you turn down the baked-in noise suppression.
Raw and jpegs had the same sharpness issues to our eyes.
I was wondering what the name of the model is
AJ Martin
Thanks, I think they're the best model you guys have ever used :D
Thanks for the review guys. Real insightful! I was curious how you did the lighting for the model during your video tests? If you have an opportunity to let me know, I'd appreciate it.
6:57 WHAT THE HELL IS THAT UNDER THE ARMPITS?
How does the ibis compare to the EM1 mk II ?
The autofocus isn't going to rock, but I question what autofocus setting you were using in that shot. The fact you didn't mention specifically what type of autofocus settings you were using makes me wonder if it was operator error?
We tried it with tracking and face recognition. I didn't see stellar results with either, but there are other options too, if you don't mind keeping your subject in the same part of the frame the whole shot. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else got better results.
Kenneth Merrill But did you go into the menu and adjusted the sliders? I have seen way better results from people who set the camera up the right way before shooting.
What were you using to shoot this review? The punch-ins look suuuuper soft.
We used an a7RII
Nice review but you guys forgot to mention the XLR accessory. The 6k Photo Mode produces 18MP stills.
The gh5 does not desqueeze anamorphic. It records in 4:3 mode which is suitable for 2 x stretch anamorphic lenses, with a higher vertical resolution.
I think that this camera looks awesome for the price. Low light maybe it's not the best, especially compared to the A7SII. But with a metabones you get a package that it's unbeatable for the price.
What lens/lenses used?
What lens are they using !?
picture profiles for yummy skin on gh5? ive been using the ultra portrait on my gh4.
Good vid that explains some specs I was interested in. With that MFT kit lens you seem a bit limited. Let's not forget how easy it is to build out on that body - speedbooster and attach nice Canon/Nikon glass and a good rig with matte box. Interesting possibilities here at very low cost.
All good points!
i saw a comparison review that said the Panasonic 35-100 2.8 is lens is sharper than a canon 70-200 2.8 lens.
ananas6969 All those are serious money, buddy.
I even use the cheap sigma 60mm f2.8 and get pretty amazing detail.
where can I get that sweater
Great review...thank you! I'm on the fence. Currently shooting a Olympus M5 MKII & Nikon D500...and Nikon D4. The two Nikons are godzillas compared to the M5. Appreciate your expert assessments and will most likely add the GH5 to my inventory when prices adjust during the holidays!
Thanks Mini!
8bit will have much better results in low light than 10bit, would be nice to see a comparison of those settings
I believe there is a comparison out there. I think I saw it on NoFilmSchool.
Yeah I've definitely already seen some, just thought it would be worth a mention here as you guys were doing those tests!
A full frame GH5? A dream, this never become true, unfortunately
That model in the background is like: "To be or not to be..." :D
Very good video ;)
If this had a FF sensor there's no way it would have the amount of features it has at the price point it's charging. FF mirrorless is priced substantially higher without having nearly as much in terms of video features or even still features (no dual cards, no fully articulating screen, no touch screen, no joystick, etc). An equivalent FF sensor specced out like this would cost at least 2x this and you'll have larger, heavier, and probably more expensive lenses. FF has its uses and applications but it's not always FF or bust.
Great information. I think your beautiful model in the background is going to freak out any minute from boredom lol.
The 5DIV is really underrated. I think it's the top contender for low-light in its class.
I use Sony A99 II for pictures, and GH5 for video. Best of both worlds. (if you can afford two cameras and two lens collections of premium glass)
whats her face in background couldn't be more bored haha
Why isn't it good to shot V log in low light situations?
Loved your review, thanks guys !
Thanks for watching, Phil.
Thanks!
Please make a GH5S review ...maybe compare it to sony, canon, ...? Would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
"who the hell is going to put anamprphic lens on it?" that's the deal maker for me buddy!
Excited to see what you do with it!
oh yes i will :)
Super good input right there!
Wrong. It is not the 1st camera that can record 422 10 bit. It is however the 1st to do it internally
Thanks Dwight.
I agree with the guy that said it could be the lens is the reason why the eyes are not as sharp. And maybe the photographer as well.
"I don't know who the hell's gonna put an anamorphic on this camera" Dude! C'mon, there's lots of people doing anamorphic on the old GH's, do a little research before doing a review!
Video AF in other reviews looks poor so I'm comfused about this camera.
same here!
Err no its not the first, the Leica SL has now been out for over a year with 4K 4:2:2 10-bit format. However Leica work hand in glove with Panasonic so no surprise there. The GH5 is a great camera and it costs a fifth of the price of a Leica SL ;-)
Ah man, I need to stay up on my Leica knowledge. Thanks for the correction!
"Think it's one of the best options for video at this price point"
So non committal! Have some god damn conviction.
It is the best video camera at this price point period.
It it one of the best video cameras period.
People on UA-cam use too many qualifiers in sentences.
I don't think it's the best. That's why I said it's "one of the best." There are SO many good cameras these days.
You could tell the model is not a photographer! :0)
haha. She was great to work with, though.
I didn't mean to infer she wasn't, I just noticed her listening to you guys (understandably so) go on about the camera in the first couple of minutes. Sort of like how my wife would act if I were going on about one of my cameras! (She loves the output, she's just not a camera gear geek like I am) ;0)
I knew you weren't. And I feel your pain. :)
Well said!
Thanks for the review. Jay is always a great presenter and educator. AJ, pull back on the pomposity, please. It is not becoming of you.
Who's AJ?
gh4 had the same anamorphic options
great job guys thank u
Thanks Khalid
Is that Marla Singer?!?!
Thank you for for talking about the photography quality of this Photo Camera and not just doing a video review. This is a photography camera with video capabilities not a video camera and should be reviewed as such!
Is it though? ;)
You're definitely right.
It's clearly what Panasonic has chosen to emphasize in the features and marketing of this camera.
this is a great informative video about a camera that's more made for Video
Now grab an Olympus MFT OMD 1 MKII and do a video about a camera
regards, Rick
Instead of having that model bored to death in the background, you could have her sent to grab a decent lunch so she might gain some weight.
you guys are kind of behind on panasonic flagship specs
The model is hanging in the back looking at those two like "nerds" lol. Good review tho! SUB'ed
@ 400%.. c'mon, cut the camera some slack.
Haha fair enough.
Wowww, they couldn't have waited until AFTER the shoot to talk about the camera and instead of wasting the model's time by making her wait?
Pathetic.
Full frame crispness? Resolution has nothing to do with sensor size. Such BS.
sure u can edite these photos by removing that hair lol
Not a DSLR, it's a Mirrorless.
DSLR style mirrorless is what we said.
funny the first go to is I'm not sponsored by anyone...😂😂😂. Get your money man. btw..was that a TV? 👀
Juice Roberts I was thinking the same thing...I heard him say her I think. The pc word is Transgender. I think TV is disrespectful these days.
Love the model and how bored she looks during this review....:-) Classic...
and how much armpit hair she got..
She totally has arm pit hair at 4:40 & 7:00....smh lawd have mercy
She actually has armpit hair the whole time. It's just that you can see it very clearly at 4:40 and 7:00.
Do you have armpit hair?
that chick in the back looks bored as hell. Good review
Thanks Gabriel!
The model in the background is bored. Looks like she's hoping Gerard Butler might walk by and save her.
:(
Thus lan'ed lense
"6K photo" does not shoot 6K, it shoots 18MP JPEG in 3:4 ratio
For 6K you need 6000 pixels wide shot, and sensor in GH5 is 5184 pixels wide.
But it is 100% more likely to be sold to spec sheet nerd :)
Yeah it wasn't until we had shot everything that I realized the true size of those "6K" stills. I don't know why they don't just call it "5K" stills...
But 6K sounds so much better ;)
In fact those are video extracted jpegs which are far far away from burst raw files from dslr's. When you look closer to this camera in terms of photo it's nothing more than an amateur x2 crop factor body not worth 2000$. Perfect for video but greatly overpriced for photo.
Hey Jay, I'm a little short, can you give me $2k so I can pick up this camera?
No way, man. Julene would kick my behind.
The Slanted Lens Damn, it was worth a shot. 😁
Great autofocus? Really? Compared to what?
creamy...
Call the police, they used the GH5 for stills!!
:(
lol
Is it just me or is this chicks neck long AF?
That chick has an armpit fro!
LOL...
Jacob never seen that
HAHA!
Who cares, she's gorgeous. I have an armpit fro. I'd say hers is by no mean that big at all in comparison.
Sure bro, if your into that kinda thing. To each his own!
Poor model. the two just talks while she waits...for some reason I didnt listen to you guys...I just looked at the model in the background and felt pity for her.
:( Watch it again and this time pay attention!
why cant you just accept it, it was a bad shot/frame..u guys talking while the model is in the background...
yep
iso800 on m4/3 is crap
also iso200 on FF is crap
only iso50 on LargeFormat is maybe ok for me...
(FF iso200 i hide myself and watch it's pics on a mini smart phone which is 20 feet away so i dont see the noise... and my friend here beside me also agrees with me..., so it must be the truth)
yep
I'm glad we see eye to eye on this one.
hahaha lmfao
Is that a stick figure, or a woman? Can't tell . . .
who´s the anemic girl behind ya :-O we are not payed by blah blah blah - im out of here
GH5 is a noise producer just like GH4, its a great camera with lots of cool features, but the sensor is junk.
