Netflix’s period film ‘Blonde’ is a semi-fictionalized account of the legendary Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. The film traces Monroe’s emergence as a Hollywood actress and her journey to become one of the most celebrated stars in the industry. When Monroe tries to find her footing in Hollywood, Mr. Z, one of the influential studio executives working in the industry, offers her a chance. It dramatizes the life and career of one of the most renowned Hollywood icons - Norma Jeane Mortenson, AKA Marilyn Monroe, as she struggles from a traumatic childhood and becomes an actress in the 50s and early 60s. With her stage name, she manages to become world famous, but it masks all the issues she faces in her personal life, such as exploitation, heartbreak, drug addiction, and abuse of power. Ana de Armas takes on the burden and honor of essaying Marilyn, while several other big names feature in the movie, including Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, and Julianne Nicholson. Most of the movie is presented in black and white to immerse the viewers in the diva’s era effectively.
Andrew Dominick’s film Blonde (2022) is a polarizing experience. Many were expecting a sexy romp. And if you were in the critics screening I was in, many laughed at the various situations our dear Norma Jean found herself in.
This is not a film celebrating the star but a dramatization of what men do to women.
So, Blonde is best explained through the lens of different traumas and the experiences she had growing up that led to her stardom. Only a small child at the time, Norma’s relationship with her mother, Gladys (Julianne Nicholson), was tragic. The single mother was suffering a break caused by depression.
The loss of her mother only added to Monroe’s abandonment issues with her father, a theme throughout the film.
Norma’s relationship with her agent and studio head was her transformation into Marilyn Monroe. The film shows scenes of the agent (Dan Butler) inappropriately touching her leg during a screening. Marylin’s relationship with Charlie Jr. and Sydney Chaplin is depicted in the film as a “throuple.” This relationship was a sexual rebirth for Monroe, who was taken advantage of by the manager/agent and studio head. She became pregnant with Charlie’s child, but the film alludes to her having an abortion for the sake of her career.
Marylin’s relationship with Arthur Miller (Adrien Brody) leads to her making changes, as she wants a family but is acting distant. Norma Jean may feel inadequate in a relationship where someone treats her respectfully. Unfortunately, she suffers a miscarriage, and her marriage falls apart because the trauma of this event can lead to anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
This leads to her relationship with John F. Kennedy (Casper Phillipson). The film ends with Norma Jean receiving a package. It is the same stuffed animal she had as a child. In the movie, she found one exactly like it with the Chaplin brothers; that was the last time we saw it. She says, teary-eyed, “But you wanted the baby dead too.”
Netflix film Blonde ending explained: The ending connects Monroe’s abandonment issues, knowing her father and mother didn’t want her, and how she and her lover, Cass, did not as well. We can assume that looking into the white light signifies she is dying from substance abuse.

Why she always calling him "dAdDy" 😭😭😭😭
@Kyane. Because the writer assumed she would call him that, seeing as how the real MM never had one
Because it's a fetishized movie made for the male Gaze. That's why.
Idrk, but according to reports she saw her husband's as like father figures and lovers which was why she called them "daddy".
I was so excited for this film but after seeing the film I am so disappointed.MARILYN WAS A LEGEND AND SHE DOES NOT DESERVE THIS .
It's not a biopic and while it isn't, it's much more truthful than the happy ending bullshit that continues to please people because they give the audience what they want. The director didn't want to do Monroe's hagiography, but to adapt Oates' novel.
This scene is so stunning - so similar to the filter of the original photos.
Best scene in the movie
The soundtrack is my favorite part of this scene
This scene made me cry and emotional 🥹
I was afraid Ana would be getting zero recognition for her work here because of how not well-received this movie was.
With her SAG and GG nomination, I am very optimistic, definitely one of my favourite performance of 2022!
She was also nominated for a BAFTA this morning, so between the Globe, SAG and BAFTA nominations, I'm keeping fingers crossed she gets Oscar nominated next week. Which would be deserved for de Armas giving the most fearless performance by a leading actress in 2022.
Pretty privilege
The only part actualy pretty good un this movie, the rest Is just 😭😭😭
It was until she started calling him daddy.
She is so gorgeous.
One of the cringiest laugh out loud part of the whole movie. They reduced a 5 year complicated marriage to a 2002 perfume commercial.
Oh god low key want to parody this so bad someone else do it maybe? Cuz someone should this is so cringe
This performance is going to be the head scratcher. Future generations will watch this and wonder HOW it was nominated for an Oscar.
future generations will watch this and wonder why it wasn’t nominated for editing score and cinematography

Thanks for the comments that confirm how the Hollywood crap of depensant spectacular films has zeroed out any symbolic understanding that works at the level of cinematographic signifiers and not just of film-videogame-demonstration. Comments that certify the fact that many see films, very few understand Cinema.
