Honestly I don’t get the hate for the new version of mass destruction. It’s different, but it’s not worse. Her cadence and delivery is different but it’s still a bop.

Oh definitely, the new singer does a good job in the remakes but I do agree she shines the most in the new songs since I love them a lot more, the whole discourse about the French missing in changing seasons is quite funny tho

There is a beta version of the first Persona 5 opening sung by the original Persona 3 singer (Yui) and it sounds pretty bad compared to Lyn's final version.
So yes It's mostly nostalgia

I mean shit, she did P5s og soundtrack phonetically because she didn’t speak any English at that point. She learned English after and that’s why her annunciations improved for royal and strikers.

Totally agree on the dorm theme, I really didn't like it when I first heard it, but as the weeks have gone on I find myself randomly singing the new lyrics instead of the old ones lmao Still like the old one better I think but this one grew on me very quickly already and I imagine after 100 hours in game I'll probably like it even more
I never played og persona 3 so i was relatively new to the original ost. When the reload version came out i can say i wasnt so conditioned as some of the p3 old players were. I can tell that both the og and the new mass destruction and iwatodai dorm sound amazing in their own ways, and its ok that they changed the vibe of the song a bit, otherwise it wouldnt have been a remake of it but just a copy paste. So i suppose that people is just biased towards the old soundtrack and the old singer, Yumi Kawamura, which is goated ngl but the new one is also very good. Ofc people can prefer og mass destruction to the new but i think the gap between them is not that huge.
Personally people can prefer the older version or the newer version after all its your preference. But a lot of nostalgic fans (I played the original P3 for context) are so quick to say "THE NEW VERSION IS TRASH!, OLDER IS BETTER!" on top of that they go onto other people who like the new version and harass them.

I’m of the take that most of the Reload songs that were remade for Reload aren’t as good as the original (that doesn’t mean they’re bad) but all of the Reload ORIGINAL songs are absolute bangers. As an original Persona 3 player I’m still popping off at Full Moon, Full Life and It’s Going Down NOW.
The second verse of Mass Destruction - Reload version is good though. Just listen to that until the end.

Mass destruction reload as a whole is good, I get that people feel like it doesn't have the same impact as the og, but it was created for when the enemy ambushes you, if you want the omph then it's going down now is what you're looking for

Even though I loved OG Iwatodai Dorms, personally I much prefer LJ's new vocals for it, and they make a lot more sense now too, it gives the dorm a much more relaxed vibe now. I will say tho, I prefer the original instrumentation, something about those trumpets or whatever they are is different. And after getting used to the frog noise, and the new singer's "baby", LJ's new verse of Mass Destruction actually slaps really hard. Needless to say, the rest of the OST is actually such a banger, and I hated Changing Seasons OG, that French sucked doo doo, new one's much better.

17:05 I agree, I remember when I started playing and heard it I said to myself "What the fuck is this" but after hearing it three times I was liking it and now I love it, I legit put it sometimes when i'm chilling in the house, and I like the new version, so I'm wondering how much i'll like it after hearing it in game.
Dunno when this was done but if it was 6 days ago then we had full versions of some of these songs, so listening to a snippet and judging it is crazy to me. Doing that with any song seems weird imo though.

You nailed my gripes with some of the tracks perfectly. It’s not mixed as well as it could be. But also in the new Vocalist could punch in a bit harder on some lines in my opinion. She’s got a really good voice but I need her to feel the tracks just a bit more. will say it varies per track though. Love it all for most part.
Nah after getting the game I don't feel this complaint at all. Soundtrack's a banger and I prefer most of the remixes to the originals, including mass destruction.
For me, my only real issue with the new remade tracks I have is, I can hear auto tune mess ups in Mass Destruction and When The Moons Reaching Out Stars in her voice often. At least to me it sounds like a mess up cause in the new original songs as well as changing seasons she sounds amazing with no weird effects with the voice in those. Its either a auto tune issue or a delivery issue like how Baby, Baby doesn't sound anywhere near as the original versions pronunciation, or it could be a mix of both. General mixing could be improved as well but its not the worse in that regard. So in regards I have no real issue with the new singer, it's just unfortunate with what ever happened in edit for the 2 songs, otherwise nearly everything else sounds good or fantastic and am still excited to hear and see everything and hope everyone can find it in themselves to still appreciate whats there that still hits great.
I first played FES, I love some of the new songs, but some of the older like moon reaching out the stars sounds better in the old soundtrack imo

The original lyrics on Iwatodai Dorm were samples from a freem sample library, It would make sanse to redo it on a remake.

Having listened to the original sountrack for nearly 2 decades, it's going to take some adjusting to the new singer and some of the changes to the Reload versions. I don't hate it, but I prefer the originals. That may change over time,

Yumi sang "Ooh, yeah!" Azumi sings "Ooh, yiih!". And that is the sole gripe I have with the entire OST, the rest absolutely clears.
I think that the problem with the new OST is not the Singer but are the songs.
The fact that every original song sounds AWESOME with her voice, the opening included, just proves it.
The Original OST was made to work with Yumi's voice, and it's fucking HARD to reach the heights she's done. Besides:
No artist likes to work on a project where they have to mimmic another person's style and voice. You see this with Bayonetta 3, where the new VA was forced to try to do the same voice and coudn't in the end it just hindered her performance, and I believe it's the same for the old songs with the new singer.
What they should have done was created some Remixes with altered sound and pitches and different lyrics too, to ask her to give her own flavor to it instead of demmanding her to sing like Yumi did.
Even if we ended with a totally different OST, all Atlus needed to do was to add a DLC with the old OST as a swap option. HELL adding that as a pre-order bonus would make more sense to make people buy those things, earlier you know, since so far we get nothing for pre-ordering these games. Not even a handshake.

The new arrangements or songs are dope...but man I can't help but to say I think they fumbled on Iwotodai Dorms and Mass Destruction. Your totally right with the panning thing but I wanna point out...those two tracks have Hella hip hop drums to em...the new remixed tracks don't sound like that at all which also throws it off. They should have gotten a hip hop producer to double check em tracks or all the beats. If your gonna remake/remix classic joints...you gotta kill em and go hard for no reason a la FF7 Remake or Dragon Quest 11. Lol I would love a Dj Premier or Hit Boy collab with Atlus for music ahaha

The eonly one that was kinda awkward was Mass Destruction but everything else felt the same, improved or wasnt bad at all.
For me I'm pretty mixed. There's a couple new tracks and remixed tracks I really like, and there are a few originals I prefer. I'm getting the game on PC so I'll most likely see if I can mod it soon after release to replace a couple tracks like Mass Destruction and Iwatodai Dorm. In game I may warm up to Mass Destruction though, we'll see. But the Dorm I'm not a fan of. The drums sound very bad and I prefer the old vocals. The bass sounds amazing on that song though.
Edit: Now that the game is out Iwatodai Dorm doesn't sound near as bad as I was expecting. Original is still better, but I don't mind the new one. Mass Destruction is aiight. Overall, at worst the soundtrack is decent, at best the new stuff sounds amazing.

I have to agree Iwatodai Dorm don't hit the same, though I feel it makes more sense story wise to be more chill (read the OG Iwatodai Dorm lyrics you'll get what I mean). Mass Destruction also don't hit the same unfortunately for all the reasons you said as well as the singer just not going as hard, which is really weird to be honest because she absolutely kills it and goes hard on Full Moon Full Life and It's Going Down Now.
I like the new dorm music actually better though.

I think if I am gonna use a word for some of the remake songs, it is flat, the older ones feels like they are moving more and in general feels more "beefy" in general to me. I dunno how else to decribe it since I am not a music person. It is not all bad, not hating on it, and I will most likely warm up as I play the game, but atm just hearing them, kinda meh on the tracks themselves.
I'm late to this video, but I recently finished Reload as a newcomer whose only previous Persona experience was P5R, P5S, and P4G (in that order). I love all of those OSTs to death (even had the Persona Series OST DLC for Strikers, so I got to hear a version of Mass Destruction (maybe the OG mix? Dancing?) in a battle context for what it's worth), and I think P3R is hands-down my favorite of the bunch.
When I do a direct comparison between the different versions of Mass Destruction and Iwatodai Dorm, I do think the OGs are better, but anyone calling the new ones "horrible" comes off kind of gatekeeper-y, if you get what I'm saying, as if us newcomers have a tarnished experience. They're perfectly fine in context, and I still think the new stuff blows even the OGs out of the water anyway, so it's not really worth getting hung up over.
But anyway, I appreciate Omega's insight into the mixing issues. That kinda stuff still a bit of a blind spot in my musical palette, but I can definitely see what he's talking about

I think having like 6- 7 different versions of mass destruction was the problem, that’s why P3Reload version feels ``bad´´compare with the OG.
My personal favorite is Mass destruction reincarnation.
I think the new Mass Destruction is equal to the original, and I firmly believe that the sample in the original Iwatodai Dorm was ass, while the new lyrics make it not only a chill song(which makes more sense for a place where the characters live), but it also doesn't sound like garbage as soon as the lyrics kick in.
There is not one song on this soundtrack that is bad. I love every song but I have no nostalgia never playing the originals

I think the newer Songs are better because it is Made For the voice of the New vocalist. For the older Songs, she gives a New feeling and Style. Many prefer the original Songs, because it was Made For the old vocalist... Maybe 😅. But i think the ost For now amazing.

ik this is 2 months later but, i think the main problem here is the nostalgia and the fact that we are used to the original song so new ones might seem worse, i actually liked more the new iwatodai dorm being honest, but original mass destruction is way better cuz the vibes it gives are more MASS DESTRUCTION yk? i think they did an amazing job in the remakes and most of them sound better then the others, so we can't complain to much but yeah, peak songs, peak game
