Thanks for playing! If anyone here is interested in more, I've got a WAD being cooked right now with a couple other fellow Doomers. And as others pointed out, the white stuff is supposed to be a parachute. The "story" was kind of inspired by RtCW misssion "Air Base Assault ", where you steal a Nahtzee (is this a YT no-no word?) rocket plane.
Thanks for the submission! Exploring it felt really fun and rewarding and the combat setpieces were great too. You're really good at this, looking forward to more of your work.
I think the use of those white textures was to represent parachutes. You were parachuted in that box, and your squad mates went to a different area but were captured. Their gear being left in the boxes
@@DinnerForkTongue yeah the stuff early on definitely isn't ice. But there was a point later in the level where I thought it might be. It's definitely white blobs. I'll go that far with it.
You were correct about (execution by) firing squad. Also I thought that this comment looked boring by itself so here's interesting fact about firing squad: "Before the introduction of firearms, bows or crossbows were often used-Saint Sebastian is usually depicted as executed by a squad of Roman auxiliary archers in around AD 288; King Edmund the Martyr of East Anglia, by some accounts, was tied to a tree and executed by Viking archers on 20 November 869 or 870."
That first secret was hilarious. Decino "I'm curious if there is some kind of switch" immediately after saying that you find it. Great content as always, this map was intense!
That "blanket" covering the crate I'm willing to bet is actually a parachute, as if the crate containing the Armor were like a little (or in this case, huge) care package, but I could be wrong.
Paused at 2:45. Whoever made this map, I noticed so many details, it is amazing. The attention, enemy placement, pure pleasure and enjoyment. Will watch rest now. Decino hopefully provides some "moments of appreciation", which he used to do in the (distant) past. This map deserves it. EDIT 4:08 Many paths is GOOD lever design. Non-linear maps is what we loved about DOOM 2. Paused 4:29 Man I want to play this map, it looks good. But my skills are far below decino. I guess I will watch the rest of the video. And update this comment.... 🙂 8:46 Perfect reactions, decino! 14:49 Exactly! Non-linearity. That is what we LOVE about it!!! 22:09 Paused, very good enemy placement. Not too little, not too much. Just right. 22:55 Really smart enemy placement!!! 27:14 LOL (I actually laughed out loud) this is comedy gold. The "really?" by decino. I bet the authors of the map must have enjoyed that moment too. Really good map design! 35:20 You need hints to shoot Hitler?! So disappointed by you, decino... Final edit: I am really happy that decino appreciated this map. I thanks both the authors as well a Mr. Pumpkinman for providing us with this piece of art and enjoyment. I fully agree with decino. Definitely one of the best maps. THANK YOU!!! 🙂
At the beginning of the video, I remembered the game "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". There was a mission with stealth and the same boxes with a parachute on them.
This is such a good looking map, gotta give it a try myself. Also all that looking around for health, forgetting you left behind another Berserk early in the map.
Fantastic map, really ingenious! This video had it all: - Slow start, looking like an easy little wad - Suddenly ARCHIES and omgsLaughter! - Lotsa laffs! Decino taking the same teleporter over and over while looking for a teleporter - I lol'd at the idea of a Hìtler portrait winking at the player ...And I didn't realize how much I missed a good long OG Decino HumpHunt for that LAST FRICKIN SECRET.
I think at the very beginning that was a parachute, so cute! :D I will say it a 100th time, because most likely in comments people told that already, but it's so good! Damn, this map is so awesomely designed and this MIDI like from old school 2nd World War shooters, love it!
Death by firing squad. Fun fact one rifle always had a blank, to alleviate the conscience of the squad that you may have been the one with a blank and did not end a life.
Oh this was one of my favorite runs so far. When you encountered the first arc viles I actually laughed, it was so hilarious. Very many great moments, like finding the switch for blue armor. 10/10 entertainment, I thank you!
It is historically fairly accurate. The Nazis did have missile facilities in caves. Or at least dug out underground caverns. So that may be where the inspiration came from. You can look at pictures of Mittelwerk and Nordhausen to see what the real thing looked like. Looks like great Doom mapping imagery to me. Talk about foreboding. Real Hell on Earth stuff.
This looks like a very well done map with great details and this music is really good for this tough map. Again it fits really with both music and map combine. I'll admit the only secret I don't like is shooting the Hitler Portait that I don't think anyone here would know where or how they suppose to know where that specific secret is. Aside from that, the rest was fantastic. Rough on ammers and Health maybe but not by much so therefore you can get around it just fine. Ton of Imps & Demons? Berserk Punch your way out? Hahaha....😬Okay but overall definitely great map play! Well done Pechudin! 👏
Now that is a very interesting usage of the Wolfenstein 3d texture as well the SS soldiers since I rarely see custom maps that use Wolfenstein textures other than the secret levels and it looks like people have a lot of imagination. I'm quite impressed indeed.
The map seems big, but it has three core areas. The map cycles around them. I like the idea of a fortress build into an mountain. And the design of the map reflects the core elements of real nazi architecture perfectly. Great map.
Greetings decino, mission accomplished, congrats. For the last secret, my thought is that the mapper bet on the reflex on shooting Hitler portrait at sight. I would have. Have a nice day.
I love how they used that one off "no people allowed" texture from Doom 1 for the area around the rocket. You certainly wouldn't want to be down there when the rocket launches!
I gotta say, I'm usually really good with directions, but I was just as clueless where to go this time. There's some really impressive map design here. But also long, winding, dark, and brown halls that really don't stand out visually. Plus you need to travel halfway across the map just to get on the right route most of the time. Lots of backtracking, and lots of time taken to do it. I'm really impressed that you did this blind in a single play-through, both for the exploration and the battles. Those battles were good though.
Doom 2 was more confusing to me than this one. The lighting differences and overall progression was enough for me to know where I was and what paths to take.
Gotta love the attention to detail, like in the big main open area with the mega armor and supercharges, they built a giant swastika into the floor via the black flooring with red trim. The big area with the bulldozer that is.
I haven't played it (yet) but simply from the visuals it's very pleasing level. Some examples could be the textures, how everything has shape to it and not being just a plain wall (for instance, the very moment you start, the canyon "closes up" on you, that looks cool, same with the main blue key area).
Looks like some of the best adventure and exploration level design I've seen in a long time with Doom WADs, on top of smart fights and texture usage. Very well done!
Looks really nice map, felt like an adventure in a nazi base. That blue key fight was really nice, i was almost 100% sure there is going to be cyberdemon in the box but it turned out to be an archvile turret which was nice
I wouldn't even call that secret bad, it's flawed at worst. In RtCW, the game this map was based on, you can break NZG decorations and they often hide secrets.
I normally dislike use of Wolfenstein textures and enemies outside of pure Wolfenstein bonus levels but here, dang, Pechudin is quite the master at using these combinations. 😍 I'm jealous, this looks so good. 😀
A double post, so I apologise, but to reiterate... I love this map! If anything, it's inspiring me to up my game when it comes to Doom cute and design considerations. Just little bits of scenery here and there, interesting lighting and shading and a few interesting monster fights, like how the Arachnotrons were essentially being snipers / stationary turrets in such a way that it made killing the Arch-Viles by the yellow key much harder than normal since the immediate place you could dive for cover was within the Arachnotrons' line of sight. Crumbs, my own map, "The Archive" (not selected for playing for the THIRD time!!) doesn't hold a candle to this level at all!
Wasn't there a breakable portrait hiding a secret in one of the Wolfenstein levels in Doom? I think Going Down had one too, in the toilet of the Roman arena map. Shooting Nazis is always worth doing.
Man, I remember in the earlier stuff, every time the chaingun came up it was a reluctant 'if I have to'. Nice to see Decino grow and use it willingly after his Nightmare escapades, much like how much less antsy he is around most platforming.
If you're afraid something is an exit, you should just use savestates. I realise pistol start no save is the doom thing, but for the blind submissions i'm more interested in seeing raw reactions to first map experience. And for making sure you don't exit prematurely it's like whatever :P
Wow, with the way he did the other secret, I was certain the final secret was going to be another, "Oh my God, can't believe I didn't figure it out" moment, but I would have given up before figuring that out for sure!
A small suggestion -- I am somewhat interested for you rerunning through the whole map like a madman searching for his lost keys for that secret that might not even exist, it certainly is entertaining. But if it takes too long, it sure quickly starts feeling old. To solve this issue I might recommend removing the audio and speeding up the footage to until you find the secret. Like at 28:13 say "oh, I am missing one. Okay, I'll see you guys when I find it" and speed up your wandering up until 35:00. Although I personally wouldn't mind the straight up cut, speed up is usually a good compromise for repetative footage that might be interesting to some
I think I said previously I was getting back into DOOM mapping (I mean, not that I made a lot of maps in the past or anything) ... I've got some good ideas going on, but this map was so good it pissed me off 😁 As for that final secret ... I always shoot the guy in the portrait instinctively, I think I woulda found it 😉
Great visuals, cool theming, and some _schpicy_ combat. This was one heckuva map! EDIT: If anything, for me this is the BEST viewer-made submission you've ever played. No cap, no drama, just quality.
I could imagine a person needs to be pretty smart to map in doom. Don’t get me wrong direction I know computers. But for like making something for games likes maps. Love to learn. Can’t be to hard

Amazing map bro
immediately spotted that it was an airdrop of sorts :D

It's not a nono word afaik.
One of the best RtCW levels! Definitely gonna have to play this too. Awesome map here :)
I think the use of those white textures was to represent parachutes. You were parachuted in that box, and your squad mates went to a different area but were captured. Their gear being left in the boxes
Maybe. I thought some of it might have been frozen propellent. The V2 used LOX.
I thought the same
@@1pcfred
No, it's definitely parachutes. The author said it.
@@DinnerForkTongue yeah the stuff early on definitely isn't ice. But there was a point later in the level where I thought it might be. It's definitely white blobs. I'll go that far with it.

I've never seen Wolf3D texture usage like this. This is really impressive.
Like decino said, it was tasteful usage.

I THINK those blanket thing thingys are Parachutes
That’s what I thought too.
You're right!
That's what I thought too, it would explain how the crates got there
This looks like a very well done map with great details and this music is really good for this tough map. Again it fits really with both music and map combine. I love when mappers use textures in a context where they make even more sense than they originally did.
Wonderfully creative design. Bears repeating that Doom is a gift that keeps on giving.
The texures in this map... oh my god they are so good 😮

Yeah it could have used more line defs to open up monster closets behind you. Just so you have something to kill on the way back too.
Doom 2 was more confusing to me than this one. The lighting differences and overall progression was enough for me to know where I was and what paths to take.
Heck yeah, UAC finally get us some airdrops!
Also guards coming to the rocket bay looks kinda... Aware of their actions, not mindlessly wandering.

Cool map! I agree, this was one of the best submissions to get picked. Awesome work, creator!
That looked like the perfect level of difficulty and complexity, i was so nervous with the pinky imp trap that one was mean 😂
This map is pretty cool. As you said, the Wolfenstein textures are implemented well.
Very non-linear, lots of replay value, extremely entertaining, and well made.
You can tell when a mapper has a specific theme in mind and executes on it from start to finish. The only flaw was that second secret, really.
And maybe navigation, but yeah it's a great map!
I wouldn't even call that secret bad, it's flawed at worst. In RtCW, the game this map was based on, you can break NZG decorations and they often hide secrets.
this was a lot better then i expected. shame it ended the second you got the rockets
This is a really cool Doom/Wolfenstein blend of a map. Great texture work and the layout is cool too. Very well done map!
I normally dislike use of Wolfenstein textures and enemies outside of pure Wolfenstein bonus levels but here, dang, Pechudin is quite the master at using these combinations. 😍 I'm jealous, this looks so good. 😀

Well that was an awesome map.
Kind of surprised there wasn't a cyber demon waiting for you at the rocket at the end, not gonna lie.
Decino cannot into words. "Firing squad" "Parachute" Damn it!
I really liked the ambushes in this, sharp fights that are deadly. Hopefully youtube doesnt go all youtube in this map.
Thankfully it didn't.
That last secret is actually extremely easy when you endeavor to shoot Hitler whenever you can.
very intense traps and awesome level desig!
this map was amazingly well done
i really like this map!
Pretty cool include the Wolfenstein monsters with doom monster in this map
That was a pretty cool design
What a cool map, reminds me of Sniper Elite v2 a little bit. I was going to comment on the parachute thing but that's all been done
I know you don't care for me, but I really like your dedication to the integrity of the game, Doom.
I think the subject matter of the painting 🐷 was the hint that you should shoot it 😁
Beautiful looking map!

As for that final secret ... I always shoot the guy in the portrait instinctively, I think I woulda found it 😉
no hint beyond the most shootable face to ever exist
Nice run pumpkin man
I hope that one day I will be a amazing UA-camr like you decino
I think someone who has okayed RTCW would know to shoot the portraits, they often hide secrets in that game.
Okayed? You mean played?
Great visuals, cool theming, and some _schpicy_ combat. This was one heckuva map!
EDIT: If anything, for me this is the BEST viewer-made submission you've ever played. No cap, no drama, just quality.
Nice. Interesting layout.
Another amazing midi. Sounds like a Chrono Trigger remix.
I'm pretty sure it isn't, it just sounds similar.
This map turned from e1m1 to okuplok in 3 seconds haha :) very good map, really like the theme!
larga vida al doom!
Death by firing squad. Really advanced map ahead of its time
Not an Italian one, though...
Great looking map
Fantastic map.
"Its A PARACHUTE!" I shouted way too loud.
Replaying the video, if you look closely and scrub the video frames 2:01 you can see the switch behind the crate from the very beginning.
It would be nice to have some youtube premiers for these videos with decino in the chat
this map is really good
I could imagine a person needs to be pretty smart to map in doom. Don’t get me wrong direction I know computers. But for like making something for games likes maps. Love to learn. Can’t be to hard
I really swear thought "it would be cool to shoot Hitler image"
Best so far
Impressive. I wanna play it. Gonna grab that bfg asap now.
0:21 I think that's a parachute Decino.
3:25 firing squad. 😉
Me: *I can be useful!*
"Firing squa-" *oh he remembered...*
Clever map
Kind of tough
The link to the wad appears to be broken? It gives me a 404 error.
Cool map, though. Like you said, great usage of the Wolfenstein textures.
Fixed it.
Ooh WatGBS midi
Exactly, RPGs like WatGBS and Gray Garden have great Music.
