      Not all firearms, just the types that are useful for self-defense. There are probably more firearms now than there were then but mainly due to the population almost doubling since they were banned.

    Everyone be asking..... I thought Australia is gun free, erm the farmers have guns and is how they protect their animals from predators, and you can have a gun as long as you have a permit. It's the same with the UK, you can get a shotgun licence and I think pistol (not to sure though), you used to be able to get a long range rifle licence until a massacre in 1987.
