  • Inkjet isn't just the future of our industry - it's the future of your business - and the Fujifilm J Press 720S is an inkjet revolution. The J Press 720S is an inkjet press that behaves as much like an offset press as possible, but is nothing short of a brand new industry category. A four-color, half-size sheetfed inkjet format that consistently produces stunning results that can be finished just like offset work. Color consistency and offset quality are delivered from sheet to sheet, and run to run, each and every time. Let's take a peek behind the panels and learn more about this powerhouse Fujifilm solution.
The J Press 720S incorporates a simple-to-use interface that allows the operator to run the press from either end of the press. All job information is readily available, including job settings, press settings, consumables information, as well as quality assurance throughout each run. An ultra-high capacity data server enables the press to manage print jobs and data on the fly, ensuring uninterrupted productivity.
The J Press 720S features a conventional vacuum sheetfed infeed. This proven design delivers reliable operation with spot-on front-to-back registration accuracy and quick, easy stock changes. The system handles up to a 20.9-inch by 29.6-inch sheet size, substantially improving the limitations of standard 13 by 19-inch digital output. And once the sheets are fed into the press, a traditional system of sheetfed roller and paper grippers provides accuracy and reliability every step of the way.
The J Press 720S runs both coated and uncoated standard offset stock. This means print providers don't have to change the way they buy paper and customers don't need to change the stocks they are familiar with. The J Press 720S accomplishes this by coating each sheet of paper with a rapid coagulating primer that acts as an ink receptor. Each droplet of ink is frozen in place the moment it lands on the media, so there is no spread of the ink droplet. The J Press 720S delivers ultra-fine text, smooth flesh tones and grey builds in ways that are extremely difficult to achieve with offset printing technology and other digital platforms.
Unique to Fujifilm is how variable data jobs are run. A barcode is printed on the front side of each sheet for two-sided variable jobs. This barcode contains the information to be printed on the reverse side. This proprietary technology guarantees 100 percent accuracy in delivering the correct variable data in real time without slowing down the press.
The J Press 720S incorporates Fujifilm's Dimatix SAMBA drop-on-demand printhead, the industry's leading inkjet printhead technology. Each printhead consists of four color arrays - one each for cyan, magenta, yellow and black - producing high-quality images at resolutions of 1,200 dpi with four levels of grey scale. Each nozzle can deliver an ink droplet as small as two picoliters.
Working with the SAMBA printheads is Fujifilm's aqueous-based VIVIDIA pigment inks. VIVIDIA inks incorporate nanosized ground pigment to deliver an expanded color gamet far beyond that of traditional CMYK printing.
The J Press 720S features an automatic quality control system that guarantees the last sheet out is as good as the first sheet on every single run. Every sheet includes a nozzle check pattern printed on either the leading or trailing edge. An in-line scanner scans each sheet as it passes from the jetting cylinder to determine if all nozzles are functioning perfectly without compromise. Needed nozzle adjustments are made in real time, so quality is maintained on each sheet throughout the job. The completed sheets emerge dry to the touch, stacked into a delivery area, ready for post-process operations or backside printing, much like a traditional offset press.
You can experience the J Press 720S at our state-of-the-art technology center in Hanover Park, Illinois.
