Savannah, Georgia: All 22 Squares

- There's no doubt that Savannah is beautiful. There's no doubt it's unique.
What you may not know is that the entirety of downtown Savannah is considered a national historic district, one of the largest in the country. The reason for this is what's known as "The Oglethorpe plan." This specific plan places "Squares" at the center of each city ward(similar to city blocks), and expands the city square by square. Today, 22 of the original 24 squares survive and these squares are one of the main reasons the relatively small city sees millions of tourists a year.
Come with me to visit each of the 22 squares!

This is a new channel so your time is really appreciated!
Thank you for this primer on the squares of Savannah.
You’re welcome I’m glad you enjoyed it
It was WONDERFUL when we got Ellis Square back!!! Great video! I live in Savannah and LOVE spending time in all of the Squares! Thanks for showing them off!
Thank you so much for enjoying my video. I hope the squares are all here to stay now
The reason Pulaski's monument (and grave) isn't on Pulaski Square, Oglethorpe's statue isn't on Oglethorpe Square, or General Greene's monument (and grave) isn't on Greene Square is because Bull Street (where the monuments are) is the east/west center of town. They figured that would make for a nice boulevard of heroes sort of deal. Thing is, by the time they got around to putting a monument on a square, it was already named. So it was either have monuments all over the place, rename the pertinent squares, or live with it. I think it gives us character :)
Edit to add - good video, I really enjoyed it :)
Wow thank you! I asked around lot about that and never found an answer.
Thank you for making these videos. I've had a love affair with Savannah all my life and once lived there while at SCAD. Unfortunately, traveling there is far out of the time and $ budgets, so I have to live vicariously through creators like you. Thank you.
You're so welcome. Comments like that make the hard work worth it! I have a bunch of Savannah videos up right now. If you haven't subscribed you should because I have a lot more coming soon! Again thanks for your kind words it really motivates me!
Thanks for this video - so informative!
Glad you enjoyed it! This is still one of my favorite videos I've ever made
You just made me realize I need an iPhone 12 Pro Max! Great Video! I now want to travel here!
Yeah it’s seriously unreal what this phone can do! And that’s even comparing it the to 11 Pro I came from before it. I made a few videos on the 11 Pro that aren’t posted and they don’t look anywhere near as smooth. The stabilization is ridiculous. Also not to mention I filmed everything in 1080 without HDR(because editing 4k/HDR is a nightmare without a top end computer). Which basically means it can look even better
Oh and not sure where you’re from but I highly recommend visiting Savannah
Such a nice video 🤗 information and also fun
Thank you Goose!
great great job on a great video I enjoyed very much
Thank you for watching :-) it was a lot of work
Saw your post on Reddit. Love this video as I love Savannah. It was my vacation destination for may years. It's been a couple of years now but I hope to go back soon.
Thank you so much for checking out the video! I worked really hard on it. If you haven't subscribed feel free to because I'm going to be making a lot more Savannah videos :-)
Troup Square is an Astronomical Mystery to me. Something happened to me there one night. In the Sky .
Not only is this informative but the editing is pretty solid. I like your use of dissolving for transition (a perfect fit). It's full of information for those looking up Savannah. Thumbs up! I didn't know that about Forrest Gump. That movie did a lot of cool stuff with editing.
Thanks brother! I worked hard on this one and the feedback from everyone makes it worth it. Appreciate your time watching it
They put signs up for where Eldert and Liberty Squares used to be? We visited several years ago (arriving in Savannah the day The Lady Chablis passed away 😢) and the only thing we found were the ground plaques with squares’ names on them.
nice job. Surprised Mercer house wasn't mentioned on Monterey Square, just because of its relevance to modern-day Savannah as a tourism destination. Locals pronounce Whitefield Square "Whitt-field" - no idea which is the correct annunciation. And yes, the Pink House is fantastic; Loved by locals and visitors alike.
Thanks for watching! I have some more videos coming. In fact one more is coming out tomorrow about a trip we just had. I have a few more Savannah videos in the works so subscribe if you want to see more :-)
Also, I agree there are a lot of cool attractions I didn't mention because there are simply so many. I actually have an idea for a "Part 2" where I hit some of the main spots I missed. I might do that later in the spring. Thanks again for your time watching!
Very informative and professionally done the only thing I wish you would have did was show the inside of the church
Thank you. I think I will go back and do a more detailed visit at the church soon. It's one of the top attractions around here
Do Mobile, Alabama. Hello from Massachusetts.
Hello to Massachusetts! It’s so funny you say that because we haven’t been to Alabama yet and we’ve been talking about figuring out a way to get down there in the next couple of months. Subscribe and stay tuned!
What about Taylor Square?
I’m wondering how long it would take to walk to all of the squares in one day 🤷🏼♀️
If you're just walking along it's not so bad. You could probably do it pretty easily in 2-3 hours. I filmed almost all of this video in one day over probably 6 hours on foot.
Thanks
How could he be the founder of savannah ga if people already live there
Yeah I know who Sherman was and what he did to Atlanta and Georgia.
