I subscribe to, eh, 10 channels. Yours is the only one I watch every time. Don't know why, but your videos always put me in a good mood. Is that your goal? Anyhow, great reviews. I just left Scriv for the bulk of my writing. But we're on good speaking terms for the sake of the children. I now write directy into Vellum, why not. Keep it up, Dave.
I was hesitant to use scrivener, but I finally dived in w/ the iPad, and I built up a 300mb template that works as my MASTER binder. Every tool I’ve compiled in my kit I’ve scanned and entered into the proper corresponding folders. It’s time consuming, but now (hopefully) I will never need to do that again. From there, I can easily load my “template”, rename from the zip, delete all the files that I don’t need, resave with the proper project name, outline and write!
Many thanks for your video. In addition to Final Draft, I'm now also working in Scrivener and enjoying every second of it. It's a fantastic tool, but some features I haven't been able to find. 1. How do I assign a keyboard shortcut to making a text ALL CAPS, 2. How do I add additional times of the day? In Project properties you can add Scene Headings, but no option to add time. 3. And lastly, how do I select an entire sentence? In Final Draft you can do it by Cmd/Ctrl + Click
Have you looked at Campfire Write? It has a great outline process that works for me. It includes many of the things that Scrivner has but also many things wor worldbuilding for science fiction and fantasy writers. Its biggest con is that it does have a big learning curve.
I'm going to try Plotr for outlining and then going to export the plot to Scrivener for most of the writing. Currently, I am using Scapple for initial outlining, which is a great mind mapping SW by the Scrivener folks but is not very structured.
Have owned a copy of Scriv for YEARS now. (2014? 15?) And every year or so I take another run at it, tear my hair out for a week and go back to Word. I'll be checking out the 2 you described though (Thot Fac & Plotter) thanks!
Thanks for the vid! I was looking for a decent comparison of these kinds of outlining platforms. I've been looking at Fictionary, but like some of the ones you present, it has a monthly or yearly subscription.
Fictionary needs a mansucript to work with. So seems like Fictionary is more about editing a manuscript *after* you've written it, not plotting your novel out *before* you've written it?
I have Novel Factory, and I am just getting started with it. I love it so far. Too many people I know have lost work due to crashes in scrivener. Also, I have a Chromebook to use when I am away from home, so no way to use scrivener.
My vote is for The Novel Factory. The desktop version is great, and you can export to Scrivener. For me, all Pros and no Cons for The Novel Factory. Okay, ONE minor Con: the online version has been updated to permit subplots - a feature the desktop version doesn't have.
Thank you. I used StoryMill for as long as my 13 year old MAC could take it. Have Scrivener and is hunting for something that does plotting and characters. Will definitely check this one out.
I have a microsoft surface studio (the studio is not a tablet, but a desktop-not portable) and an iPad. Is there anything that allows you to write on a pc based machine and mac?
Great info Dave, as usual. I've been on the fence about Scrivner but haven't jumped off yet. Because I'm planning to write more, I may go for it after seeing this info. Tks!
I'm more of a creature of habit and have used it for already 10 years now...haha..oy. II think it is useful for the price but it is complicated - if you decide to get as much out of it as possible. Just last week I learned something new that it did.
Been using Scrivener for a good few years now. It's easy to learn and makes it very easy to manage your story, moving sections and chapter around etc. I reccommend.
@@aciddrive1019 Scrivener is not easy to learn for most people. That's why there are so many tutorials, "For Dummies" books, etc. Many of us have given up in despair.
Stupid question perhaps, but I'm currently using Penzu for my novel writing and was wondering if I should switch to PlotFactory; any thoughts/suggestions on that?
I’ve been writing and I’m at about 80000 words. I’m getting tied up in knots wondering if I’ve already used an idea/turn of phrase… which software will identify duplication for me? Am I essentially too late to get good moneys worth from it?
actually, Plot Factory will. It'll track multiple use of phrases and individual words. Not necessarily ideas though or things like "hey you already brought them to a beach. You don't need to do that again in chapter 40" But it will tell you how many times you've used "sigh" or "and he smiled" and things like that.
Please save us all Dave and release you're own plotting and writing environment. Nothing out there really has the full feature set and doesn't cope with the collaboration. Because, you know, no-one needs to collaborate with other authors, beta readers, editors, or ARC reviewers. :D
In the context of Scrivener having by far the most attractive affiliate program, I'd call the fact that you ignore its major downside - the Mac-first approach and reliance on the local system - just slightly suspicious.
Maybe I'm first view hi Dave can you tell me how can I do research on audiobook is it same like Kindle and paperback and how's competition for audiobook, thanks in advance
forget all that stuff you don't need that, just get a typewriter. you save your self so much money and you don't need internet or anything elas. i got myself a hermes 3000

anything that doesn't have a lifetime membership drops off my radar.
Well, Plottr and Scrivener are lifetime.
Plottr mobile is 15$/year 😑

Awesome - yeah, very clean. As for the videos, thanks. That really means a lot to here and made my day to read :)
Workflowy is an excellent tool as well. And scapple for mind mapping
Yeah, I've enjoyed Scapple but haven't heard of WorkFlowy.
Yeah Workflowy is pretty good...and Hard Sausage works well too
Aeon Timeline 3. I have tried a few other but I can’t live without Aeon. A superb software. (I have no affiliation with Aeon).
Years ago I had Write it Now. I really liked it. It was a lot like Scrivener but also had character creation tools.
Interesting, I haven't heard of it.

I don't know of Penzu, so I can't say. But if Penzu is helping you then, I wouldn't recommend having to re-learn a different one.
Thanks for the video. Do you know a thing about Campfire Pro?
No I don't - but I've heard of it...usually from screenplay writers.

Are there good apps for sketching story outlines on Android?
Plottr now has a pro version which makes it a much better value.
Can you talk about Milanote and compare with Plottr? I have Scrivener that I barely use
We need an updated video 👀👀
Thanks for the advice
Very helpful video. Thank you so much

There's a lot to that and in the future I'll write an article on it at Kindlepreneur.

Sorry...not sure.
Con for Scrivener- if you use Windows, you're still waiting on the latest update.
True....for years....
Been waiting for sooooo long for pc update 😭
THE coupon code did not work
Which one?
@@Kindlepreneursorry, its work on single purchase not a bundle. I was trying on the bundle.
Thank you
Plotter has a lifetime purchase

It's actually a pull over sweatshirt and it's AMAZINGLY comfortable.
