I have a green cheek conure who loves to preen my hand, but unfortunately he sometimes bites a little too hard. Can’t imagine what a macaws bite would feel like!

Best introduction! 😁 Fiesta is such a personality, it was so much fun to see her appear from the stump cave and make her way to the recycling bin! Thank you keepers, this was so informative and so much fun! Don't worry about Dustin getting to scratch her bald spots, you're doing great! 😂 💕🐦

I hate that people get wild animals as pets. They can never care for them adequately. Wild animals are wild, and should be left in the wild or in preservation programs in high-quality zoos like yours. Fiesta is very beautiful, and so big! It was fun to watch her crack open her hazelnuts. Thank you for telling us how you became a zoo keeper. People need to know that it takes education, training, and experience to get there. And thank you for showing and telling us about Fiesta!

i really agree with you ke le. it is so wrong for them to be in captivity in private homes. a bird in a cage is such a stark anathema. a zoo like this is different because it can provide for it's needs. i wish i could have seen fiesta with others of her kind in her magnificent enclosure, but i hear that when a bird is human raised, it is harder for them to get along with other birds and they tend to compete with each other for the humans' attention and snacks instead of building a relationship with each other. but i really agree with what you said.

Great video! My cockatiel and I loved it and Fiesta is just beautiful. The zookeeper said she interned at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Wow I I have not heard that name in decades. I went on a field trip there as a kid in elementary school in 1957 and I loved it. But I don't miss living in Cleveland as I left there in 1961 for greener pastures out west with my family. Thanks so much for the Home Safari::)

This is for while we are at home, and when we can visit the zoo when it reopens. Sharing this with everyone, because it's so good. It's an untitled poem by Kitty O'Meara, Irish-American teacher and palliative care-giver written for these uncertain times. People are calling it
    AND THE PEOPLE STAYED HOME.
And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still.
And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

    • @nonebusiness4488
      @nonebusiness4488 4 роки тому

yeah, but how are people going to pay their bills if they spent all their time mediating, praying and dancing. this kind of mindless optimism in the midst of this apocalypse is so dissonant

Cutting down Trees 🌲🌲🌲🌲around are world from forests 🌳 to woodlands 🌳are releasing Carbon that the trees 🌲 have collect for years back into the Atmosphere and logging is cutting far quicker than planting around the world and adult trees 🌲 that take 45 years to grow that store more toxins and carbon than new planted trees does and If the logging continues to carry on then the weathers around are world will become a lot hotter and very aggressive storms will become life threatening for humans just because humans can’t stop eating massive amounts of meat 🥩 just because jobs and money are more important than life itself .
PLEASE SAY NO TO LOGGING and help protect the trees and the wildlife habitats that are so important to the world we live in ..

nah, they just overdid a bit of grooming behavior (i.e. brushing the hair so much that the hair falls out)
not a major health issue, but if it had been left to happen the best case would have been one bald bird worst case would be getting some infected injuries from scratches form the over grooming

I was worried when I first saw Fiesta with the bald patches on her head, but hearing her story immediately set me at ease. I'm elated that the zoo decided to keep her as an embassador animal rather than simply get rid of her. She obviously loves her work and loves her people, and is very well taken care of.
Thank you for showing her off to us!

really great . fiesta is a great name for her. she seems pretty well adjusted and happy. i met a macaw once owned privately in captivity. many of them are not well adjusted or happy and suffer with anger. they have long lives which often last longer than their owners or their owners marriages and various living situations... they are often abandoned in divorce, changes in family structures, economic positions, vicissitudes and etc and end up changing owners hands more than once in their lifetimes which of course is emotionally and psychologically traumatic. you could see the anger in the bird's sinew like a child in an orphanage. i met one macaw years ago owned by a young woman who a neighbor of my in nyc. i forget the exact story about how she ended up with the bird...a divorce or something, etc, but she got the bird and had no idea how to take care of it. eventually the bird stopped eating and lost its colors. she thought it was dying. so she took it to the pet store crying. turns out, she didn't know she had to trim the birds claws because the claws grew around the bar in the cage so that the bird could not move and so couldn't move to the part of the cage when she left the food. of course in the wild the birds claws are trimmed naturally by living. and she learned that the bird likes to go into a hot shower with its owner and that is how their feathers stay bright and colorful. and she had no idea that she needed to vary the birds diet with a variety of fruit, nuts and vegetables you can't just feed them bird seed all the time they like berries, bananas melons, lettuce, etc etc the bird was dying of boredom food wise. it was one pissed off bird, pissed at life, it's circumstance, it's lack of diet, lack of a warm shower and i could smell the emotional abandonment issue, etc etc etc. i will never forget that bird. i will never ever wrap my head around people wanting a bird in a cage in their home in north america. however, i will say that fiesta is very lucky bird because she has a totally great place with amazing people involved in her care. she is well adjusted, like attention, seems happy in her place there, it is a nice joint, but not like i am some sort of expert, but she looks a little chunky to me, no? maybe a few less peanuts and a little more watermelon or lettuce or something, not like i am some sort of expert. and i could tell she liked the girl she was with well enough and was well adjusted and really had a nice place to hang out, luck bird. fiesta has a good degree of contentment but i would love to see her with some others of her species whch i know can be hard if she was raised by humans.
i wish i could have heard about the zoo's attempts at trying to socialize her with others of her species which i have heard can be very challenging if they don't grow up with the other bird individual.
really interesting presentation and it was very very cool meeting fiesta. just as an aside, alex, the grey parot, beloved by the staff at the scientific center where he lived, died of coronary artery disease when he was 35yrs old. they loved alex to pieces over there at the place where they were teaching him language and etc for years. they loved him to pieces and used to feed him bread and cake and god knows what else they fed him cuz everybody loved him so much and he was constantly being rewarded for working all the time learning words, ideas etc. alex himself used to ask for 'yummy bread' which was what he called 'cake' which apparently they gave him for birthdays, probably other peoples birthdays at the research center where he live and god knows what all they fed him.
just saying. fiesta might need to watch her hips a little more if she is going to last the way she should at that amazing place she's got. wish my place was as nice and she is doing important works as embassador for us all. amazing piece.
