    Isn't it so, for politicians, big, bigger, biggest is the best of all worlds? Some of the world's most successful and stable countries are small, such as Switzerland and Singapore and, in its time, Hong Kong (But not so much anymore). Few politicians see the opportunities in being small, agile and decentralized.

    • @redman6790
      @redman6790 Рік тому +3

      This is exactly what Nassim Nicholas Taleb talks about in all of his antifragility lectures. Smaller & decentralised is the way forward to provide stability. Politicians and those with power want centralised and large mass to dominate as it is easier (especially in this age of technology), but it is in fact the most unstable. City-states are the best model, nation-states are failures and will persistently cause discontentment with its denizens.

      @@redman6790 I could also have written that Tony Blair is a dreamer, but I refrained from doing so out of respect for the complexity of the issues he raised. I am well aware of Taleb, Hayek's, The Road to Serfdom, is also worth noting in that context and I recommend studying it if you haven't already done so. Democracy is for the majority and the interesting as far as I am concerned is what drives the majority and whether their behavior is rational.

The world apart from America and its lackeys is more united than ever in its intention and determination to escape American interference and negativism in their affairs. It would be constructive if such as he recognised the new reality, ref Meirsheimer, Sachs, Wolff et al and adjusted their redundant approach.

    Excellent interview. Firstly, I agree with Tony Blair's assessment that a more multipolar world will continue for our foreseeable future. However, I disagree about the alleged irreparability of damage due to Brexit. Just some facts: after Brexit, the UK's total trade surpassed $2 trillion, with exports exceeding $1 trillion, despite the multiple COVID-related health and energy crises. Indeed, another fact: in the two years since Brexit, the UK has moved up to the fourth largest trading nation, from fifth place. I understand that this may surprise some, including perhaps Sir Tony Blair, but it is indeed accurate. Nevertheless, a prosperous and peaceful European Union remains a valuable partner. Notably, the same positive trade trends hold true for Europe's two largest economies, Germany and France, and other EU nations. Furthermore, despite Brexit, we continue to collaborate effectively. Another fact: not since the Industrial Revolution and the period preceding World War I has the UK been a major producer and consumer of coal. As of 2023, coal consumption stands at 0%! Moreover, the two largest European economies, the UK and Germany, generate the majority of their respective energy via the world's largest offshore renewable energy infrastructure, as of 2023. Furthermore, we are demonstrating our vast mutual UK and EU science and technology soft power by leading the world in tackling climate change and working towards eventual renewable energy self-reliance. Despite the emergence of a more multipolar world, as Sir Tony observes, the UK, despite being a relatively small island, has proven to be exceptionally agile. For instance, the UK is the second largest exporter of services, and despite comprising only 0.81% of the world's population, it generates the second or third largest volume of scientific research as a post-industrial knowledge economy, next only to the giants of China and the United States. Additionally, as one of the world's largest foreign direct investment (FDI) spenders, the EU remains one of the largest and most attractive destinations for investment in the foreseeable future, despite the UK's status as a small island nation. While the relationship between the UK and the EU has evolved, it remains one of cooperation and synergy, with the EU continuing to be an indispensable neighbor and friend. Finally, a salient point: as the largest investor in the USA and the second largest buyer of its debt by the end of last year, I believe that the UK must be acknowledged for its remarkable agility in managing its relationship with such a powerful nation.!

      Unfortunately, people seek to not uphold and value leaders, but assassinate their characters - even with just words and social media hype . There is "dirt" on every single person in the world ever to have lived because humans make mistakes, some larger than others. Forgiveness and moving on for most mistakes are the best remedies. But being mindful that wanting 100% of all aspects of a leader to be perfect will always make you feel forgotten and disappointed. Instead, realize that virtues like sharp communication skills, intelligence, and conscientiousness (all of which Tony Blair has) are qualities enough alone to lead effectively! 😀

    War Criminal Blair

  • @frazer3191
    @frazer3191 Рік тому

    I think he was the greatest leader we had since Churchill , actually brilliant, until the illegal war. We now know as a fact that he promised bush and Cheney that the U.K. would be with them come what may with or without a UN resolution for a war, or any reasonable legal grounds or cause for a case for war.
    He told us to our face that Saddam Hussain had WMD and could use them in 20 minutes. All lies. He sent troops off in snatch land rovers and no body armour, to be blown up and maimed by Iranian roadside bombs. We killed and bombed millions. The soldiers came home deflated and treated like garbage with their nerves broken. Thousands of British soldiers deployed - THOUSANDS, Have committed suicide since. And so many lives are broken and ruined in the U.K. and in Iraq. Blair left and went onto make millions and his son tens and tens of millions.
    Not only was the war in Iraq illegal but it’s execution was woefully inadequate. The prosecution of the war sending hundreds of soldiers to die for nothing with no kit or the wrong kit or not enough kit, was all Blair’s responsibility fault and blame.
    I liked him and I respected the way he Powell and Campbell ran the country effectively and forcibly. But for the crimes of Iraq and blindly following the neo cons in America to near ruin, means - he really should be in prison and held in the Tower of London no less, as a message to any and all future leaders. If you lie to the people of U.K. over an issue as big as war and peace, then you will languish in a dungeon of the Tower of London indefinitely at the kings pleasure.
    Since Blair war criminal or not, and I think he is, all of the leaders since have been pygmies and beyond hopeless. Blair at least mastered the art of leadership had a sharp intellect and had command mastery of the English language. In his early days he was superb even today none are better. But he is morally bankrupt, and guilty of serious crimes. There is just no escaping this contradictory duality.

    Ever since Tony Blair and Barack Obama there has been an epidemic of politicians who care more about thier "political Afterlife" than thier own country. Hence they do what suits thier career and not what suits the larger population. "Hence we get Populism".
    Macron still doesn't do the hard work that Marine la penn did. Macron ended up in the position because of spectacular failures of Francois Hollande and Sarkozy who were detached from any sort political reality and cared more about thier mistresses.
    I remember John Oliver doing segments fawning over Francois Hollande. After the failure of Hollande John Oliver never did a video about how Francois Hollande had an approval rating of 3 percent and had to step away from elections out of embarrassment.
