Valuable conversation! Also pretty cool to hear KB take accountability for being a big supporter of Boomplay and try to rectify things on a public platform when the reality has changed.
True! I believe consumers also need to make an effort to understand the platforms in the most basic way in order to support their favorite artists so they can keep making that good music. But otherwise, pretty decent conversation, this would be a starter on a full course meal. 🎉
I'm at 31:56 in the video, till this point what I can say is that our consumerism drives the success of many platforms and products from outside the country. Unfortunately, local businesses do not invest enough into these platforms in order to drive up the CPM, this in terms of Ads, there are very few advertisers that are advertising, and the ones that are advertising are so few that it makes the platforms unsustainable for the artists'. As KB mentioned, because there is a larger pool of advertisers in countries such as the US and Europe, they're CPMs are always going to be higher as even the platforms themselves are willing to reinvest more to make the experience better. There is also a paradigm shift needed for Zambians to be able to adapt to the times and be able to adopt new technologies to support not just artists but the other industries that can exist once our country is properly monetized. I believe later in the video you'll talk about monetization, I'll make a separate content for that. Otherwise, a pretty interesting video nonetheless.
It’s also partly to do with ad targeting and the relevance of the ads served and the rate of conversion. Even if Trade Kings was the only company advertising if the ads lead to conversion and sales the company would put in more because it’s leading to profitability
I believe if our top artists did a Spotify exclusive. People would switch. That's how much confidence I have in the big artists; Maps, Chef, Slap, Macky2, Pompi, Abel.. and the list goes on and on.
It's commendable that KB came out and spoke when it didn't go his way. Any other r person would have just gone quiet and waited for the dust to settle Kudos to KB for that
I'm now at 1:04:33 in the video, talking about monetization. Social media monetization is a much bigger conversation than people think, our government also needs to have another conversation with PayPal in order to create a more streamline process of making and receiving payments, its also a much deeper conversation of who exactly advertises locally and how much Adspend they have invested into the platforms, I feel although local businesses do advertise, the pool needs to increase and so does the quality of content and the understanding of how algorithms, digital payments and the fine print across meta and byte.
One thing that can help with the music is adding lyrics to the songs. I always recommend a lot of Zambian songs to my friends abroad and they like them but they’d probably relate to them even more if they knew what they were about.
Abel Black talking about why ain't you pushing Apple music as much as you did Boomplay makes no sense when someone already mentioned that it's different for everyone. Yes apple music is making him more but also mentioned you'd find people like Xaven making more from TikTok than any other platform. So it's clear everyone has got a platform making them more money.
There’s an android app on the Google Play-store that works for Android devices. I used it for over a year when I had an android phone and it worked perfectly.
Meaningful conversation for our music industry. Smart brains 🇿🇲🎵🌍🙏
Thank you for watching

Boomplay is only loved in Zambia because Most Zed artists loves streams than making real Money.
