After getting a good deal on a STZ230 end of last year I was a bit gutted when the Max was released. However, I managed to get the Max 5-wood, which is utterly brilliant.
I was fitted back in 2021 (I think) for a Driver and got a Mizuno ST200, which I've been using since and am very happy with it. I would definitely consider another Mizuno as the one I have has mucho forgiveness, which I definitely need so this one could be a candidate when I go to change. Great review again.
I game mizuno stz 10.5 degree, 3&5 mizuno stz fairway woods, honestly I love my mizuno driver.. I feel like it has great accuracy / consistant ball distance.. I will admit its not the longest driver out there, but hit it dead straight when needed, I can draw it when needed.. I am not big fade player but it does perform when needed... I know what I am getting off the tee.. Interested in the new models for sure.. Great job James keep it up!! (to me extra distance is nice, but hitting fairways on the regular is far nicer) and trust me they are not short from my experience... i have tried quite a few drivers and mizuno gets my vote for now 🙂
Mizuno has been making good drivers for over 10 years. A friend of mine just started golfing this year. He had a steel (i think) driver made by a no-name brand that was the size of a persimmon. I found him an MX700 for like 75 bucks on ebay. Big footprint, very stable. I decided to hit it one time and in 10.5 it was nipping at the heels of my TM M2 in 9.5* It also sounds unbelievably good. And with each round I can see my friend gain valuable confidence in the big stick. The MX700 is from 2009. The JPX850 was a nice club as well. They also were using composite nearly as early as anybody else in the MP-001 (2003) and MX-500 (2005). I think that their marketing isn't necessarily poor, just unenthusiastic because they know they make the goods. And most content creators will pimp Titleist and Taylormade cause that's part of those companies marketing
Just found one only used at the range 8 times for $140. I started off with a JPX-900 then found a brand new St-200 3 years ago for only $150 and there's quite a wonderful improvement, I'm excited to see the next jump with the 230
I have the STZ 230 and absolutely love it! I was hitting a 2007 TM Burner and could hit pretty good but with the the new STZ my drives were definitely longer but hitting the fairways more consistently was the big improvement!
Always loved mizuno irons and have played them over the years. Actually played the mizuno st-x from 2021 a few years back and really enjoyed it. Maybe not the longest, but felt great and was a fairway finder. 👍
Picked up a new STX 230 driver a few months ago for under $200. So far that thing has been a fairway finder with occasional monster hits. If this driver is even better, then it is legit.
I was hoping you was going to review this driver James and the review didn’t disappoint, the wife has said no new driver for me this year 😭😭 but I have said to one of my golfing partners who is looking at changing his driver this year to try this one
I’ve already ordered mine from my mate and coach Sinjin McNab in Germany (I think you know him James) and it should be here in Spain in the next few days. I currently use a ST 230X which I love but a bit of extra forgiveness never goes amiss. Try the ST 230 Max Fairway woods as well James they are from early reviews fantastic apparently!!
I think you do excellent club reviews, honest and thorough. Lots of great drivers out this year but boy are they pricey. Alot can be said about second hand options or slightly older models to try and save some money. Not sure if you've figured out your WITB for 2024,guessing Takomo irons are a lock, interested to see what putter and driver you'll play this year...Swag and PXG perhaps..
Every time I've tested anything mizuno in fittings...irons or woods...they've consistently been a club to a half club short of everything else tested with the same or worse dispersion so I've never bagged them....which is a shame because they make great looking and great feeling golf clubs. I still ask to test them every time I go in though.
Love my mizuno irons. I want to change out my hybrids and driver with mizuno as well. I’m running an old old burner driver(works great for me) and Strata hybrids. Still a beginner of 4 years and just started to change out my old Strata set. But mizuno is winning for me. Any recommendation on a budget mizuno driver s as I’m looking in to getting a driver next?
im not sure ive ever seen a video where james is remotely critical of a club hes trying. Fair play for getting the sponsorship money but theres no say every single club you hit on this channel is fantastic
If you think these reviews are sponsored then you’re missing the mark by a long way 👍🏼 maybe think that all the effort the R&D teams go into actually make great clubs for people. I’ve been plenty critical in the past with constructive feedback which brands have actually taken on board… infact if I was more negative the videos would get more views and we would make more revenue… so kind of backwards to what you think 👍🏼
This review comes at a great time since I'm waiting for my pro to get this in so I can get fitted to see if it's for me. Got fitted last season for the 923 hotmetal and love them.
Your stuff is all so interesting. Just the question becomes are the conclusions a function of your excellent golf swing and your abilities? How much does your technique factor in. I’m heading out onto la Cantera in San Antonio texas this AM myself as well. Looks like a driver I’d definitely like to try. Combine that with a set of Elevens, or a Q one club, plus a Scotty Cameron B back putter and you have a great travel set up.
@@JamesRobinsonGolf To lower the spin and gain distance in the air and on the ground. That way you could make an informed decision on this club vs. your go-to low spin models. Your numbers were too high in both spin and descent angle. Don't act like you don't know this already. You have the ability to do a real comparison between clubs and choose not to.
@@JamesRobinsonGolf Now that I think of it....... Your "Why would I" response is disrespectful. crazy driver prices, with 10 k, this feature , that feature. still knocking my ping g way out there, straight as an arrow... no need to change until that aspect of my game becomes a problem and my mates begin to out perform me with their brand new heads.
Mizunos drivers have never been very very bad. Don’t be a tool. All the way back to tzoid steel was great. Everything since mp600 has been sleeper . wtf are you on about very very bad. Cmon man
@@gdeezy I’m not mad , but why drag a quality company? I know james hasn’t been reviewing videos since the 90s but they have a rich driver history regardless of paying tour players . I don’t know what you’re on about? Maybe you just needed a little extra attention so here’s your pat on the head.
I've watched so many of your videos James, I feel like Woolley Park golf club is now my home course.

I had a T-Zoid years ago! Great driver! I’m not planning on changing anytime soon, but the new Mizuno looks good!

I feel the same way with you. Mizuno driver… getting better, better, better.😊
Lead tape and my G-30 worked just fine. Lead tape allowed a lot of Driver personalization...
James impressive on the video on the mizuno you made shots look easy
Just been fitted for it can’t wait for it to come 👌👌👍

Get that or the Ping 10k max in the bag Jim…. Forgiveness and confidence is what you need 👍🏻
Well done James 👏 😊
I am not in the market for a new driver but if I were that driver would be worth trying.
I wish you 'd try it with a lower spin shaft!!!! I love mine with the Ventus TR Blue 6s tipped 1/2"!!!
I had a fitter tell me that if you can’t hit middle, high toe will get next best results.
I have the new STz 230 on the way should be here this week is there much difference between it and the max?

Hi James I use the mizuno tsx driver I love it
Mizuno driver tip fits the Costco Kirkland driver.
Nice driver but it’s all about the shaft.. put 4 drivers side by side .. with the right shaft .. they are all about 3-4 yards apart
Already ordered mine 😊
What type and shaft name are you using in it. Thanks
If it doesnt end up in your bag James, Ill text you were to ship it :)
Just purchased a new stx 220 12d. Anxious o
To try.
Looks a really quality forgiving club, I currently game the STX 230 so not sure if the upgrade would benefit me
Me too. Would be great to see how the numbers stack up between the 2 options.
With 50 grams in the back of the head the forgiveness has to be off the charts
@@andyg1347 I also like the 45 “ shaft in the X

Interesting. It’s pretty, I’ll give it that.
Iam looking forward to these drivers hitting the 2nd market in a year or two. I love my mizuno woods and want to get a driver to go with them.
New for $200 at the PGA Super Store now
@@za988 that’s sounds a good price here in the U.K. they are still going for £400+. I did how ever find one company had it on sale at £320.

I have the STZ 230, sadly (for my wallet) I tested this one and wow, I ordered one directly, should pop up soon!😃😱🤑
Just got stz 230 at end of last year, didnt know a new model was coming. Anyway, what changes and benefits do you see with new one?
How do we define forgiveness is it a measurable thing 🤷🤷🤷 but lovely driver
As much as I love Mizuno here in Australia the that ST-MAX is $999

I might be wrong but I think Jimmy Bullard recently put one of these in his bag. And his driving has been leathal
It’s not bad but the Ai smoke max went farther and felt more forgiving.
4 months later and it’s 299 that’s wild
I think the STZ is the best driver on the market.

Mizuno doesn’t advertise much, less player visibility! Last mizuno player I can recall was Sir Nick! I think it would help,
Luke Donald
