That T2 movie came out when WW3 was such a looming threat. When that nuclear blast scene aired with Sarah Connor at the playground, it was so profound. Here we are three decades later, desensitized to such images of destruction yet closer to WW3 than ever.
Hmm. No, T2 came out in 1991, after the Berlin Wall had fallen and the Soviet Union had collapsed. We were probably the furthest away from WW3 being a "looming threat" at that point. The 60s, 70s and even the 80s were pretty dicey in that respect, though.

Everyone was great in that movie. Furlong, Arnie, Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick ... every one of those characters are written to be iconic and the actors totally delivered.
T2 holds up. But that's because of ILM. Marvel right now doesn't have time. The Digital Effects people are the last people to see any scene. In T2, they were the first to see the scene.
Beautiful short story. One of my fav movies of all time. It was super intense being a kid when it came out. The effects were simply amazing yet scary. The craziest thing is things are now quickly heading that way so the movie is very much a prediction of what is happening now. The playground dream scene still haunts me to this day.
As far as I can remember, T2 was the only movie I’ve ever seen with my Grandpa from Michigan. We went to the movies and he was just ridiculous! LoL. He kept saying things like “oh what the h:))” and “HOLY cow!” He was so loud! LoL. It was hilarious. When he past away a few yrs later, going through his VCR tapes we found where he recorded T2 on regular television. Commercials and all. We watched that movie countless times. He was an amazing man. Was a Marine from WWII. Stormed Iwo Jima. Amazing man.
Can I just say how proud I am of Edward Furlong? He’s been through so fucking much, and really shows how decent he is as a person by being generous and warm. This is a guy who was groomed as a teenager, and could’ve died many times over from drugs. I’m proud to see him still enjoying life and sharing these stories. It would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would die to protect him. Of all the would-be fathers who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine was the only one that measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.”

The lead actor, the subject, the special effects, the soundtrack, the freaking director. It was a perfect mix of everything needed to do something unforgettable. What a time to be a kid in the summer without the internet to distract you from wanting to see a HUGE movie.
It was one of the rare sequals that was better than the original imo! Aliens might be the only other one I think also did the same (also directed by Cameron of course).
The only excitement I felt that matched T2 in the theater was having seen The Last Crusade also in the theater 2 years earlier. Great time for great movies
How old were you in 91? I was, i think, 7. I do remember the hype was insane. I actually teared up at the end when Arnold lowered himself into the molten fire. I was a big Arnie fan so I hated seeing him die.
Man, I was 19 and in drug treatment in Buffalo, Iowa, when T2 hit the theaters. I watched the trailers on TV in the day block in county before being transferred to the drug treatment facility. I couldn’t leave the facility grounds until I graduated their 21-day program and by then T2 had left the theaters, but there was a cheap theater that played movies right after their initial release on sub-par screens and sound systems, and this place was showing T2! So first day of freedom me and this Mexican dude named Jimmy reserved seats on the facility van that transports people daily to the Davenport transit station, from there we hopped on a bus that took us over the Mississippi into Moline, IL, and at their transit station we transferred to a bus that took us close to the theater, hopped out, crossed over some roads, and walked into the theater. Our minds were blown! I was a seasoned moviegoer since birth, Jimmy, however, I don’t think had been to see too many movies on the big screen. He was having the time of his life. He was actually giddy with excitement. That’s the magic of Cameron’s movies. Years later when True Lies came out, I was by myself in the very top row, and directly in front of me was an old couple, and they too were having the time of their lives, especially during the Harrier sequence, which they watched with bated breath while holding each other. The man is a master. He only ever disappointed me with the Way of Water. But all is forgiven because Mr Cameron has provided me with oodles of entertainment, and though Aliens and Terminator are my favorites, T2 stands as a testament of excellence in action movie making, second only to Die Hard. Here’s another story if you’re still with me… When I was 16 me and two buddies (whom I still know!) one late winter night went to go see Die Hard, not knowing anything about it but that it was an action movie. We sat in the back row and took our coats off and used them to muffle the lighter flash as we took hits from a one-hitter. We barely paid attention to the movie, but when McClane dropped that explosive down the elevator shaft, we put the weed away and paid close attention. Man, Hollywood needs to put out something these days that’ll knock your socks off the way T2 and Die Hard did…

The best film in the entire series! Arnie on the motorcycle, with that lever action shotgun, is one of the coolest sequences of all time. He looked so badass
Arnie was a big fan of John Wayne who was the American action hero of Arnies youth. In True Grit, Wayne uses a similar Winchester lever action rifle in the final shootout, reloading it by twirling the gun around the lever. Arnie thought that was cool and that's why he has a Winchester rather than a pump action shotgun, so he could make like The Duke and look badass doing it.
I'd imagine being around Arnold at that time would of been very unique, what an aura he would of had especially being a young teen. We all know how good and cool Furlongs John Connor portrayal was I think we was all surprised he didn't go on to become a mega movie star
I've literally watched this movie 9,865,890,758,923 times. I know the script verbatim. It brings back so much nostalgia for me. I grew up on this movie and I love it and I always will.
It's funny, the ending of the film is in parallel to Furlong's experience at the end of filming, no longer spending every day with this larger than life hero, having to say goodbye on the last day and never really interact much again. I honestly don't know how a kid, without much acting experience, pulled off the roll of John Connor so perfectly, and seemingly effortlessly. It didn't even seem like he was acting.

“Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The Terminator would never stop. It would never leave him.

I never wanted to see a movie more in my life. The excitement i had for that movie will never be topped. It was the greatest blockbuster ever.
I remember Arnold calling it “the movie of the summer“, man all these years later it still hits perfectly.
The only excitement I felt that matched T2 in the theater was having seen The Last Crusade also in the theater 2 years earlier. Great time for great movies
I’m a little younger but I obviously loved this movie but I got pumped for Jurassic park in the same way you are talking about.

Reminded me of the Rifleman's signature move
There isn't a millisecond in this movie that isn't pure gold
Yes. Absolutely. The latest one was woke trash.
Its makes my heart smike reading all these positive comments about this iconic guy/character. I concur with you all.
This is a refreshing change to hear someone having a good experience in the industry.
I'd imagine being around Arnold at that time would of been very unique, what an aura he would of had especially being a young teen. We all know how good and cool Furlongs John Connor portrayal was I think we was all surprised he didn't go on to become a mega movie star
That voice is so distinct man I’ll never forget the first time I watched terminator with my dad
How's wolfie doing? Is he alright?
I've literally watched this movie 9,865,890,758,923 times. I know the script verbatim. It brings back so much nostalgia for me. I grew up on this movie and I love it and I always will.
It's funny, the ending of the film is in parallel to Furlong's experience at the end of filming, no longer spending every day with this larger than life hero, having to say goodbye on the last day and never really interact much again. I can imagine it was a similar feeling to John saying goodbye to the terminator for a young boy.
That didn’t HAVE to be the way it was. It was that way because he completely lost control of his life and couldn’t even reprise his role later.
@@koriko88 There were no plans to make a third film when filming the second, so yeah, it still would have felt like a permanent goodbye regardless of Furlong's future decisions.
Arnie wasn't dead. I'm sure they could have exchanged contact information if they really wanted to, or go through his agent. Furlong himself was briefly a star following T2. He only fell off after
Ok I want a terminator movie with him as John Connor again!
He looks like a guy who's been thru judgement day... He looks real.
That’d be hell of a work out for him.
John and The Terminators’ interaction while working underneath the truck is some great cinema. Great flick!
That movie is Timeless. Certified classic!
