    After watching tens of motorhomes videos , this was the only video that was straight to the point and was talking about tips that mattered the most.

    Never drive with gas on, UNLESS, you have a Truma Duo Control installed on your vehicle. Than you can forget about gas.

    What type is the grey van in the video. Looks like the size I'm looking for, for my trip.

      Just to clarify, a motorhome is the white one effectively with the home built around it and a campervan is the grey one, so if you’re looking to hire one for your trip, you’d be looking for a campervan. We had a Fiat Ducato campervan but there are also Fiat Ducato motorhomes!

    Is this still a viable option? Keep in mind I've only been to Scotland once over 10 years ago and this absolutely wasn't a thing then. (or not as much of a thing as it is now that is) I've never done anything of the sort even here at home in the States. We're planning a 2 week trip in 2024 that will span Scotland and England. We would only use the camper van option during the Scottish portion of our trip. I was wondering if it was more efficient than trying to make hotel/B&B reservations and renting a car. Seems like there is lots of freedom with this option.

      Travelling via motorhome became more popular during the pandemic, and it definitely gives you more freedom to explore! We are aware that many locals are not fans of campervans and motorhomes, but if you stick to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and be mindful, we’re sure you’ll have a great time 👍🏼

    Only one thing that I think you got wrong
    From what I could tell by looking in your gas locker it was fitted with a crash sensor regulator as are most motorhomes less than 12 years old. Therefore eliminating the need to turn off gas. see here ua-cam.com/video/R8W00syHVB4/v-deo.html

    • @OneJourneyAway
      @OneJourneyAway  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment! For us, even though there are measures in place, you never know if or when they may become faulty, so we don't believe it's wrong or a bad thing to advise others to do one small thing that could potentially prevent any dangerous situations! As well, when hiring a motorhome, they will generally advise you also to turn off the gas before you start driving!

    • @Martin37vg
      @Martin37vg 2 роки тому +1

      @@OneJourneyAway Fair comment but I think saying you should never drive a motorhome whilst the gas is turned on made it should like it is illegal.. Yet with the correct regulator and rupture hose fitted is a matter of personal choice. in your own motorhome. . Truma has a fantastic reputation for reliability (in my opinion) and spent a small fortune in R&D for us to enjoy being able to run our heating on the move. If you had said we recommend you do not drive your own motorhome with the gas on and the rule of our hire is that the vehicle can not be driven with the gas on then I could understand.your statement. Sorry for splitting hairs but things need to be said correctly.

    They're making these vehicles bigger every year, totally not suitable for single track roads in the Highlands

  • @drummer471
    @drummer471 2 роки тому +6

    Scotland does not need any more campervans. They are everywhere, spoiling beauty spots, damaging country roads, being a nuisance on single track roads, parking where they have no right to, including believe it or not, cemetery car parks. Don't you realise how much they are hated in Scotland, ask any local.

      Lorries and trucks and fat American type cars ruin roads too yet I don’t hear any whiners there? Until other heavy vehicles are banned in country roads why should camper vans be demonised ?
      They don’t actually ruin beauty spots they’re not permanent fixtures .
      It’s a great way for people to travel especially with family and not pay through the nose for a week or two accommodation . It’s difficult to find accommodation for a family of 7 close to a thousand a week and that’s minus fuel costs which are extortionate also.
      I’m thinking of buying one as we go up to the highlands twice a year but it’s becoming so expensive it’s either a motor home or pay less and holiday abroad. I live in Scotland so that would be a shame but how can we live in a country and pay more here than abroad? It’s ridiculous
