Dr Chalmers introduced the idea of the "hard problem of consciousness" in his 1995 paper "Facing up to the problem of consciousness". This conversation was in 2018 and no mention was made of it. At the time maybe Bernardo Kastrup's work and Donald Hoffman's work was not just not well known. But on the whole this was an interesting conversation.

Sapolsky did so well in his
responses to the poorly veiled arrogance of the fellow in the middle, who at one point basically insinuates baboons have spiritual beliefs🤦🏼‍♀️ the same guy starts many of his 'questions' by backing up with his own self serving answer and attempts to set Sapolsky up (or thinks he is, Sapolsky knows his stuff) . That guys body language, voice, hands tilting of the head etc and his language reveal his disgust for science that doesn't align with his beliefs. He presents as closed minded and very manipulative.
The other fellow on the end was far more positively conversive, whilst maintaining his stance, he showed mutual respect, genuine interest and less bias input.
Sapolsky navigated this beautifully. I had to smile when the other two would say things like 'what even is conscience and empathy, how can that be...'' and refers to stuff like baboons grooming eachother.
Or recognising beauty, explain that they say. I bet Sapolsky was thinking "Oh dear 🤦🏼‍♀️ I could, but I'm gonna just let you run with 'it's mystical' "'.
Bro, you're talking to Sapolsky. He can tell you exactly what led to that behavior.
Sapolsky took a very subtle stance with very neutral and soft responses. Truly amazing man.

It is magnificent how a human being can touch the heart of another human being by just being him/her self and knowing it in an intimate way💜💜
My heart is very touched by Hameed’s contribution to the dialogue.

yes, a shame indeed to be locked in the iron prison of arrogance and spiritual blindness.

@@reeceh78 I'm not an atheist at all but I love listening to Sapolsky. He does't seem arrogant at all to me. You really should listen to his lectures. Lot's to learn. ua-cam.com/video/NNnIGh9g6fA/v-deo.html

Sam, how well did he navigate that minefield though. Deadset legend on so many levels. 👊

My thought completely. Really hard to follow the man with the vest jacket on...complete babbling... I am suspect Sapolsky is thinking oh, yes this is how many good people delude themselves.. Sapolsky was reared in orthodox jew household so he has seen the negative to magically thinking first hand.
