To save my back and time with the fabric placement, I have had the kiddos help me by pulling a garden wagon with bricks or decent size rocks as I unroll the fabric. When I unroll it, I slide a rope through it's tube and then tie each end to itself creating a way to pull the fabric behind me. I have also done that with an old wooden broom and drilled holes through each end... then secure the rope etc. As I pull, the kiddos will drop the bricks on the fabric stopping it from going crazy and frustrating the heck out of me. 🤣 Then I follow up placing rocks or bricks more uniform. I love your channel, your sense of humor and how encouraging you are. You definitely help to make flower gardening not seem so intimidating. I've ordered a soil blocker set because of you and an stoked to get it within the next few days. Living in southwest Wisconsin and in a 130 plus year old house that has been in my husbands family since 54,,, I definitely want to add some much needed color to the landscape around here. I picked up 6 different Peonies (2 ea.) yesterday to add as well. His grandmother and great grandmother had them all in front of the farmhouse, but they are long gone due to terrible renters over the last 20 or so years. -Devin ♡
I realize this was awhile ago, but I've seen a lot of devastation in my life, but honestly not much compares to the complete loss that fire brings. So sorry for your family it's a long healing process and really stretches you psychologically.
You have been missed! So glad to hear that you're family is salvaging what they can from the fire. Pictures are the most precious things you can pass on to generation to generation along with your memories to share of people and good times past & present! So keep your head up and keep smiling and growing!!!
I'm so sorry for the big loss you had with the fire. I know some things you can't get back which is really sad. You and Brad are so incredibly hardworking . A big thumbs up for all the adhd'ers in the world . I show your videos to my daughter who has adhd and show her what that kind of energy can accomplish. I am jealous though, those peony roots look gorgeous and you have so many!
There is something about seeing hard working people that is appealing to me. Thanks for the wonderful video. Can't wait to see the Peony crop. I planted 4 about 2 weeks ago.
Hello. 1st time catching your channel. I’m so glad you shared the weather there.. I wasn’t sure to what coldness I could still plant my peonies. Btw your super adorable with your silliness. Very real and down to earth.
Hello! I came across your channel about a week ago. Needless to say I have been binge watching! Love your sense of humor, it’s very refreshing and much needed during this crazy time. Plus, you are an inspiration to us flower lovers and gardeners. Thank you for sharing!
So so sorry to hear of all the loss because of fire. I’m very sentimental and sympathize with your grief. You sure work hard. Love to watch your channel
So so good to see you. We’ve missed you and been praying for your family. We’ve been through a family fire when I was young and it is devastating. I’m so very sorry for your family’s loss. We will continue to pray that The Lord takes care of you all through this tough time. Thank you for taking the time to put out a video for all of us.
something similar happened to me three years ago. i havent come to terms with it really.. but i have realised that these are all material things. What is important is the love that remains and you all have each other.
I have survived 3 different fires in my life including one when I lived I lived in Fort Kent Maine while attending college. It was - 32 degrees when the house I had an apartment in when up in flames. It was a total loss because the water froze almost immediately after landing on the building. I also had a fire where I lost a brood bitch and 10 puppies in a small shed when a heat lamp fell into a small amount of wood shavings. They both happen a very long time ago but fires are hard to come back from mentally. Siren will cause great stress and they will get immediate adrenalin rushes when the sirens are close. It's automatic and it is a survivalists' instinct of the body. You family has my very deepest sympathy and prayers. Take it very slow and allow yourself to mourn the loss. I didn't because I never had the time to shut down mentally, I was always in survival and fight mode.
Oh my Eve. Thank you for sharing. We were so grateful that the weather was unseasonably warm because a freeze would've destroyed it all. So awful about the puppies. Thank you for your thoughts.
It's peony harvest time here in Australia. More American varieties have been imported but the range available is much smaller than what you have to choose from. Never seen a green one before. I grow mainly reds. Had my first Coral Charm flower & was so charmed I will plant more next Autumn. Thanks for sharing another video, especially after what happened.
Wowww such beautiful colors of blooms you’re going to have enjoy..so sorry for your family’s loss thank God they still have each other it will take a while but love will keep you strengthened 🌸💚
I put the fabric down temporarily and then poke landscape flags down every four feet. Next I cut an X at each flag, remove the fabric, plant a root at every flag, and replace the fabric. The X does a better job of keeping weeds down. I know because I used to burn holes too.
We have a lot of wind where I live to not to mention there are windmills not far from my house that make the wind even worse. We took boards and concrete blocks to hold ours down it looked awful but I didn’t know what else to do I was hoping to find longer staples but I haven’t found anything longer than 4 inches aside from tent stakes that are only about 6 inches so still on the lookout for a better alternative I don’t have rocks on my property like you do but I did have a few concrete blocks set aside for it.
I planted 235 peonies last fall. They take about three years before you can cut from them. I had about 20 stems this year. You can see them in my “Do you even Fleur?” Video and I have an entire video about when to harvest peonies I think it is called “first peony” or something like that!
That is a lot of hard work, I can imagine how beautiful it would be in few years, when all of the peonies will flower. The landscape staples work better when they are rusted, the rust just dont get so easy from the ground. I hope you can find some place where they work for you.
So sorry about your loss! Those little peonies may take an extra year to bloom. Some varieties don't even need eyes to grow, they take longer, but actually grow eyes...Coral Sunset and Coral Charm and you pull off roots to get more plants. Also Song Sparrow Nursery (Martha Stewart got her peonies there) is having a 40% off closing sale until Nov. 25th...they have very few left.
I ended up planting both of those little peonies in the same spot- Good to know- thank you! I saw Song Sparrow- I think I'm holding off until I find the varieties I really want.
So sorry about your cousin's home. My mother in law's house burnt down years ago. She lost everything. She had a homemade clock that was 3 ft tall and only 2 in the world. It belong to her mother. Thank goodness it is a big family and she could have pictures replaced! It will take time for such a loss! Will pray for you and your family! Oh by the way... they are from Buffalo! East Aurora! I told my husband your dirt is so rich and black! We live in Georgia red Georgia Clay!
Flower Friend Danielle got back into her UA-cam channel!! I’ve been following you on my business page Bigfoot Buildings. I’m so sorry for your families loss!!!! I love seeing it all come together your doing an AMAZING JOB!!!!
So sorry about your family home burning. That is one of my fears with the grow lights. I am always afraid they will get wet when I water causing a short and catching fire. I hope your family can find lots more treasures as they rebuild. Love your channel. I also love you energy. By the way can I have some, lol. I was wondering if you have ever tried winter sowing. I have been reading up on it and hope to try it this year. I was also wondering if your flower friend that did wonderful growing the Lisianthus if she could show us how she did it. I grew them for the first time this year and was able to get all but one to germinate but the garden space was not ready for them and they sat in their cans to long. I did gst flowers but not like hers. I accidentally bought a lot of them for next year and would like to try again. Any help would be great. I have watched all of your videos at this point. Looking forward to the next. Happy holidays.
I have not done winter sowing- I always think of that as a few seeds and I typically do hundreds of each variety so it never crossed my mind to try it! I've been trying to get the secrets out of Gina-- I'm still trying!
Was looking for a little “how to” with these. How big is the diameter of the holes and how far did you space apart your peonies? Thank you for sharing!
I am new to your UA-cam. Are these ponies new to you or are you planting new beds? I guess I'm asking if you have to pull them up and replace every year.
When do you pick them for bouquets? I would love info on peonies...how and when to pick them and how long they last...only have 10 but any tip would help...Go S U!...TFS
These peonies will remain in this very spot for decades to come! The landscape cloth is expected to last about five years and will need to eventually be replaced
How happy were you with dutch bulbs? I just ordered from them for the first time, & each peony only had 1 or 2 eyes, most only 1. 1 was broke in half, and there was only about an inch of root on each one...
Think I might have planted some of my new peonies too deeply. Oops! (Newbie mistake.) Should I leave them alone and cross my fingers or do something proactive to fix the depth?
Karen, no don’t cross your fingers....get out there and lift then up to 2” below the surface or you’ll never get the potential flowers. Fall is the best time to do it and it’s not too late!

Thanks Eileen! I did put in Red Charm last year. I base my choices exclusively off of bloom time (and color assortment of course)! I have a varieties of colors in each bloom time. Festiva Maxima is one of the most popular for cutting! I will never let the buds open on the plant so staking isn’t usually an issue but I know it definitely is when the flowers open 💐 I’m so excited to watch these develop over the years 😃 I’m going to research the Peony Society! I’m a member of a few peony grower groups on Facebook and I learn so much!

I’m so sorry for the loss of those memories and the destruction of family property. Your grandma was a knock out!! So lovely.
Nicole, so sorry to hear what your family has been through. Stay strong.
Thank you, Robin.

Yes! Thank you!
Etched salmon peonies are so perfect. It must have looked magical when all your peonies bloomed together.

Thanks for watching! You're very welcome- I love hard work!
Lot of hard work and patience. I'm sure it will be very pretty and worthwhile in a couple of years.
So sorry for the loss you and your family have gone through, Nicole. I'll be praying for all of you.
Hello. 1st time catching your channel. I’m so glad you shared the weather there.. I wasn’t sure to what coldness I could still plant my peonies.
Btw your super adorable with your silliness. Very real and down to earth.
Hi Jacqueline! Thank you so much. I've learned being myself is so much easier. You can plant your peonies as long as you can dig the earth!
I am so very sorry about your familly’s loss.

Soooo sorry to hear about your family.
Thank you Sangeeta
OMG every single time my husband and I have had to work with fabric in the yard since we moved here in Nov 18 - the wind picks up like crazy!!!
It never fails!
So so sorry to hear of all the loss because of fire. I’m very sentimental and sympathize with your grief. You sure work hard. Love to watch your channel

So glad you’re back and everyone was safe! Missed your videos! Also, yay peonies (my favorite flower EVER)!
Thank you!
Sorry for your loss of some family momentos/memories in the fire. Fortunately your children will have your great videos for some of their memories.
Thank you Carrie.

Yay we’ve missed you!
Yay! Thank you!
Family comes first
Love those green ones!
Aren't they cool! They are one of the newer more expensive varieties but I needed them!
Did you have peonies last year? I don’t remember seeing them in any of your bouquet bars.

Nicole, What do you use to store your peonies in after a harvest? If a cooler, can you talk about please? If not, any tips? Thank you!
Sending prayers & healing vibes to you & your family xo. 💞🌈☀️🌺🌸🌷💐🌼🌹🌻🥀
Thank you Regina
Way to go Nicole 💃🏻🦋

Dewitt landscape fabric… Wow. I know the Dewitt family. Their factory is here where I live in Sikeston Mizzurah 😀
Was looking for a little “how to” with these. How big is the diameter of the holes and how far did you space apart your peonies? Thank you for sharing!
So sorry to hear about the fire.
What is the spacing you did on these peonies?
30 inches
So sad about the fire 😞
I'm new to this sight, what in the world do you do with all the flowers?? It will be beautiful in the spring!
Hi Julie! I sell to florists, have weekly bouquet club members and sell flowers at bouquet bars on my porch for people to make their own arrangements!
I'm so sorry
It is very very very beautiful photo Nicole it's good 💏💏💏❤💚💙🇺🇸✌💪
so its been a couple years how are the peonies doing?
I am new to your UA-cam. Are these ponies new to you or are you planting new beds? I guess I'm asking if you have to pull them up and replace every year.
Hi! They are new to me. Once they are in the ground, they will last for decades!
where did you purchase the festiva Maxima peonies?
Welcome back! I’m so sorry about the family home. I wasn’t clear from your video, but were you able to salvage any of your grandma’s photos?
Yes we were able to save some photos. Not all of them but many!
Peonies are so beautiful and really tough plants. What’s your total number of peonies, must be a lot!
After all of the ones are planted this year I will have 450.
WOW!!! That’s a bunch! Going to be beautiful.
When do you pick them for bouquets? I would love info on peonies...how and when to pick them and how long they last...only have 10 but any tip would help...Go S U!...TFS
Woohoo SU! I graduated from there. Check back to my videos from the spring- I did another peony video about when to harvest and more!
Is this a new bed that will remain for years to come or will you dig the tubers up at the end of the season?
These peonies will remain in this very spot for decades to come! The landscape cloth is expected to last about five years and will need to eventually be replaced
Cut a cross in the fabric, is an other Methode.
It's mid April in north central Vermont, just about parallel to where you are in New York. Is it ok to plant my Peonies outside right now? Tks
Yes Martha
where do you get your landscape fabric?
Do you leave your ground cloth out over winter or pull it up and store?
I leave it!
How happy were you with dutch bulbs? I just ordered from them for the first time, & each peony only had 1 or 2 eyes, most only 1. 1 was broke in half, and there was only about an inch of root on each one...
The roots from the wholesaler are much larger and much healthier. I only ordered from there because I couldn’t get the variety I wanted through Ednie.
Think I might have planted some of my new peonies too deeply. Oops! (Newbie mistake.) Should I leave them alone and cross my fingers or do something proactive to fix the depth?
Planting them too deeply might impact the number of blooms. I’d shimmy them up if you can!
Thanks for the advice. I'll get that done today. 😊
Karen, no don’t cross your fingers....get out there and lift then up to 2” below the surface or you’ll never get the potential flowers. Fall is the best time to do it and it’s not too late!
Thanks, Eileen! I fixed them! I'll be happy I went to the extra effort when it's time for them to bloom.
First time viewer...long time peony fanatic.. I assume you’re going to sell cut flowers from all these plants and wondering why you picked some of the varieties you did. Festiva Maxima is a WONDERFUL cultivar but you’re going to have to stake those plants so your buds and flowers aren’t on the ground. Newer hybrids have been bred for strong stems and never need staking. Your Etched Salmon and Lemon Chiffon are good examples, you’ll love them! I know you said you ordered some reds and they substituted with a pink....what’s with that? You definitely need some of the wonderful reds like Old Faithful, Red Charm, and Buckeye Belle. Maybe you put those in last year? Also did you consider staggering your choices by bloom time so you have a steady flow of flowers throughout the 6 weeks or so of the season? Most peonies come mid season and there are so many blooms, I’m throwing them at anyone who comes near the house.
I have nowhere near the number of peonies you do, but have plenty to sell to a florist nearby.....helps feed my habit. You might consider joining the American Peony Society....a wonderful source of information and advice on all things peonies!
Hello. My name is dana. I was wondering if u could help me with question? I bought some bare root peony from lowes. I heard they need to be planted in fall. Didn't know that when I bought them. Does it still work if I pop them in fridge for 10 weeks? I live in zone 5b. Thank you.
You can plant in the spring. It just might take them an extra season to bloom.
What if you just plant it in the ground?
How long do you think it will be until you get blooms from those?
They might have a bloom or two but it will be three years before we see enough to cut. Some of the ones from Sunflower Steve had 20 or more eyes. I’ll see more on those sooner.
You look so much like your grandmother.
💜💜💜
I donated. I couldn't donate a whole lot, but I hope it helps!
Thank you! 💐
I FORGOT TO TELL YOU I'M SORRY FOR YOUR "GRIEF" THESE PAST WEEKS. I PRAY THINGS GET BETTER FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY...
Thank you!
Check out Song Sparrow Farm and Nursery. They have a list of 160+ varieties and they’re running a 40% off sale.
you re fun. youd be my bff if i was living in your town.
Thanks!
Do all peonies flower the first year?
Definitely not. I would say 20% of mine did
@@FlowerHillFarm thanks!
❤️
Love you guys
Flower Hill Farm we love and miss you all!
YOU LOOK ALOT LIKE YOUR "GRANDMA". SHE'S VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you so much!
Now I'm starting to think that I didn't order enough peonies. 😳
Never enough!
I failed :(
There’s always next time Jett 💐
