thought the information you gave on how to remove and replace the hose on the fridge but I can not understand why you did not give an important piece of information to the need of a pee trap in that hose. you forgot one thing that the loose of the hose will increase you temp in the fridge and with out the pee trap you really did not address that problem

Why would need a p-trap in a condensation drain hose? P-traps are only needed if connected to a sewer system.
Also, doing so up north will lead to having to replace that hose each year because of it freezing and cracking.
@@stevenreardon4974 Forced me to go out and check mine.. No 'trap' just a drain line nearly straight down..
No to pee trap, but, a bug trap on end to stop any nesting bugs. That's what happened to me. Glad I seen this video cuz now I know how to replace or clean hose. 👍

Thank you SO MUCH for this video. My new Winnebago trailer never had water coming out of the refrigerator drain tube. After several camping trips, we noticed the trim below the 'fridge swelling from moisture. That's when I dug into the problem. The drain tube went UP from the drain in the back of the refrigerator then OVER ALL the coils, made a loop, then came down to the outside drain port. Good grief! Your video taught me I CAN do this job! All done, and draining properly now. Thank you so much for this excellent video!

Thank you for your video after watching it this morning. I was able to fix our refrigerator and not cost a penny. We had our new refrigerator installed in Arizona where we were at for two years never had to worry about water evaporation, so when we got to Florida. The water is been draining into the bottom of the refrigerator so I went out this afternoon opened up the vent. Remove the plug looked up in there and there was almost 3 1/2 4 feet of hose just looked several times and it was full of water and looped it Water. poured out drain pan dry put everything back and cut off the excess hose like you did. I installed it into the bottom vent hole so as it gets old, I can move it up and shorten it like on your video.
Thanks for putting this out there my husband is 80 years old. He does some maintenance but I do most of the hard stuff like the roof and things like this so thanks again.
Your welcome. One thing I forgot to mention is you do need a "bend" in the tube to retain some water, it keeps the bugs out, like a pea trap. Safe Travels.

Very helpful info since I have a Rockwood camper also. I used 1/2 ID tubing from the hardware instead of the cheap stuff that came on the camper. I also used a hose clamp and getting it tightened was the most difficult part. I used a socket on a nut driver handle with an extension. I also backed those sharp screws out that Papa Texas kept getting poked with(They're really sharp and brought blood on my arm!) All in All this video was great - I wouldn't have known how to start without it!

Hi there Papa Texas,
Thank you for showing this video on how to change a RV refrigerator drain hose. We tried to follow your directions as we are novices to repairing broken things on our old 2008 coachmen Freelander motor home. Purchase a similar hose as you had.
We found after removing all the six screws suggested from video, that we could not push our fridge forward do to the fact that it was chalked all the way around.
With that said we did find the drain cup inside the fridge that the hose would have connected to. We had to remove it from the inside of the fridge to remove the rest of the broken old hose. Our hose was secured with a zip tie. We replaced the cup back in from the inside and then removed a piece of plywood from the outside area of the fridge.
We then attached the hose and it screwed on in place. we found a little metal hook and slipped the hose into that.Then continued on as you did with pushing the hose through the outside white door. replaced the plywood and put the little white drain cap on the hose and we are now good to go. Thanks again. We got the job done.

Thanks for the advice! Was thinking of doing the exact thing, but it was a little piece of ice 🧊 stuck blocking the hose drain 😂 so I just poured a bottle water in the tray to flush out

I fixed mine to drain out the bottom of the floor and into the wheel well. Makes defrosting a breeze and I've had no maintenance issues related to the drain in over 10 years. Also took an old window screen and cut strips and used a glue gun to secure them inside the vent cover to keep wasps and other insects out.

Thanks for the video. One caution though. You may need to disconnect the LP line before pushing the refrigerator in. Similarly, the AC cord and DC wires might get need to be disconnected. Depends on how far you have to move it before you can get your arm up in there. And I would use clear vinyl tubing instead of that junk plastic tubing that Dometic uses. It’ll get brittle again after a few years and need to be replaced again. Vinyl tubing will be much less expensive too.
Your right on both counts. I did keep an eye to make sure there was wiggle room to slide the fridge forward. Yes, it will crumbly and I will have to do it again. Good advice!

We discovered our hose was needing replacement. I hope this along with the thermistor will help our internal temperature. Short of replacing the gasket possibility.

I plan to get an RV in the next few years, still up in the air on some stuff, when I'm about ready will definitely seek advice from everyone (waiting for house to be paid off). I'll have to keep in mind your guys experience and expertise to ask questions when I'm ready.

I'm dealing with similar situation.
The one thing I forgot to do and went back and did. Create a pea trap in the house to trap water so it keeps bugs and heat out.

I just did this. Don't pull it through the bottom area. It got too hot on gas and started the vent cover on fire. We were lucky I acted fast with an extinguisher. Mount it to the vent cover frame on top like it's supposed to be.

Thanks for the info on where everything is at. Unfortunately once it's brittle it seemed like it just starts breaking everything you touch it so I don't think there will be an opportunity to shorten it to a different vent hole. I'm going to see if I can replace it with some clear water tube and a cap with holes drilled in it to keep bugs out. 🤞
Also one thing someone brought up that I forgot. Curve the hose like a pea trap.

wow kinda funny I flip campers all summer from Craigslist so can relate. I have rebuilt and repaired so many!! I feel at home in an RV but I only flip bumper pulls and fifth wheels no driving ones but I own a 1987 Honey Ford E350 chassis
i think you can pull out the drain "cup" inside the fridge slide hose down through there and then simply attach it to the drain cup and then no need to slide fridge. i will find out soon as i just ordered a drain pan and hose for mine. i went without one for last year cuz im a noob. peace papa texas.

@@PAPATexas nope doesnt work the hose is too thick...poorly designed if you ask me. for now im just using a jar under the pan. i am afraid since my rig is 2002 that i will mess something up if i move it.

Thanks for showing us the video. We were given a trailer that needs some TLC and this is timely for me. Overall if you have cracks in one hose, should you consider changing each of them? Also, I have you a shoutout in the card at 4 point mark on my video about Alaska's talking rocks and baby moose.
You would have to inspect each hose to see. If they are fine I would leave them alone, unless you want to just change them all out and start with all new hoses. Very cool, I will check the video out. Thanks Gayle.
So it sounds like a visual inspection is a good idea, but they may not all have to go. Good to know.

Should there be a small plug with holes in the end, so bugs don't get in?
Probably, but I did go back and created a "pea trap" so water would sit in the tube to hopefully block the bugs.

@@PAPATexas We had trouble getting our refrigerator to slide forward after removing all the screws. Took a flat tip screwdriver and worked under each slide and sprayed with WD-40.Thanks again!

What is the climate control switch for?
I had to get my manual out after I made the video. Looks like the part that cools is above the refrigerator and below the freezer. It said in the hot months it could develop water drops. So when you turn the climate control on it will evaporate the water drops.
M unit is only 2 years old and it’s rotten!
