- On the 178th aradhana day of Saint composer Sri Tyagaraja, here we present a few compositions related to nama mahatmyam. This video was originally prepared for Prerana online Telugu School, Johannesburg, South Africa.
It is well known that Sri Tyagaraja firmly believed in the upasana of the divine name and historically it is recorded that he had the vision of Sri Rama when he completed chanting rama nama 96 crores (960 million) times. There are several compositions where the saint composer makes reference to nama mahatmyam and some of the compositions exclusively address nama mahatmayam. We have rendered a select set of songs here.
Raminchuvarevarura - Suposhini - Rupakam
Namakusumamulache - Sri - Adi
Smarane sukhamu - Janaranjani - Desadi
I menu kaliginanduku - Varali - Adi
Melu melu rama nama - Sourashtra - Adi (Trisra)
Sarame gani - Pantuvarali - Adi
Sukhiyevvaro - Kanada - Adi
Hariyanuvari - Todi - Adi (Trisra)
Inta soukhyamani - Kapi - Adi
Rama nama bhaja re - Madhyamavati - Adi
P.S. The renditions are a bit far from my own expectations since I was just recovering from ill health at the time of recording these and my voice was not very cooperative. Please excuse for the same. Nevertheless, I do hope I could provide a glimpse of the composer's outlook on nama mahatmyam
Excellent rendition and explanations
