After watching Jared's video on the 4runner, I went out a bought a 1995 4runner in beautiful condition with a blown head gasket at 105,000 miles. No rust on the body and frame. I took it on as a challenge to prove to myself I could accomplish things as good as Jared could do. Thanks, Jared for allowing me to make questionable choices. After completing the 4Runner I am going Jeep shopping. Maybe one with a lot of rust. I can try my hand at welding. Thanks Jared!
Heck yes!! That's AWESOME!! I did heads on an 04 Honda Pilot - timing belt broke and it's an interference engine. I am kinda a mechanic, but not a professional by job or anything, ended up rebuilding both heads and all, got it running back to normal for under 800 bucks total with tools (needed a few specialty tools I didn't already own) all the timing stuff, water pump, gaskets, new valves (they were bent!!) etc. etc. but yeah it's a GREAT feeling to bring life back to a car isn't it!?! - this Honda had 240,000 miles on it, ended up finding out the timing belt broke because the camshaft on the right head actually wore the bearing out so I had to replace that camshaft and hone the head. It was an AWESOME job to do!! I fixed it though!
hell yeah that’s what this is about! One time Jared talked of that one car that stays with you forever. Jared talked while on the verge of tears about his MKIII Supra. I related so hard. I have a comparatively new 2013 Audi A3 which is that car. First date with my wife? That was the car. Drive away from my wedding? That car. It’s the car that’s in the background on road trip and special life event pictures. It’s a fun yet practical car but had so many issues (water pump, oil separator unit, electrical issues, intake valves fouling, bad plugs and coil packs… etc…). I did so much of that work myself and made the car better with more robust parts. After 100k miles now, it runs so smoothly and even better than when it was new! I have ZERO mechanic background, yet Jared inspired me to just get to work and make my car better. I LOVE this channel, and love this community this channel has made!
@@AnthonyRBlackermy 07 Odyssey has 306k on the original engine and trans. Runs like it has 10 miles on it. But not the highest mileage vehicle I've ever owned. Had a 98 Lexus ES300 with 451k back in 2016, it's still on the road and I can only imagine how many miles are on it now

I am not a Jeep person but I do like the videos on the repairs you are doing to it. The videos on the Wizard’s Ferrari will be great. That car is awesome. Keep up the good work.
I feel your pain , brought a '90 YJ 4.2 litre back to life after I trailered it home from where I picked it up. Didn't have the rust issues but the front end was in similar condition. It's a daily driver now and well worth the time and money spent on it.
Jared, if you read this. Watching you labor over a $1.00 Jeep with that SICK Ferrari in the background, really shows the integrity of your channel. Thank you for your hard work, it is very much appreciated 👍.
I loved the brake joke I love how real you are Jared showing how things just happen as you said "it parked for rust and mechanical faliure " who thought it would fight. Keep it real
Hoo boy! I would not have wanted to try tackling that rusted front end with just a set of driveway jack stands. Never mind the frame repairs that you DID do on the ground. You da man, Jared!
Hey Jared, you're one of the few UA-camrs that I would actually enjoy hanging out with. Keep up the amazing work and I just ordered a shirt, so I'll be rocking that pretty soon.
One step forward, two steps back, but if you keep moving forward you are not where you were, but closer to where you want to be. Which is always a good day in the shop!
Ahhh, major brake repairs. My 2014 ford fusion had to have that last fall. The rear discs were completely seized and not applying any braking force. Ended up with new pads, rotors, calipers, two flushes, and some other stuff on my own time, and then had to take it for a factory service at the dealership because the brake fluid I bought was apparently contaminated. I was going to just do a brake service, but I was at the 50K mark anyways, so got everything done. Expensive, but worth it. Those new brakes feel amazing, very confidence inspiring and I don't lock up the fronts anymore. Unfortunately now I need to diagnose the transmission. I was driving home today, went up a short hill, and BAM, it slipped gears real bad. I thought I had been hit by the following vehicle.
How nice of Jeep to finally straighten out my nomenclature. They labeled it for me. What I had always called a radiator fan the call a "CAUTION FAN". Thanks Jeep.
Great job. Look, with project type cars... This is the reality... You work, you wait for parts, you work some more.... Not sure how this is a money making project... But what do I know.... But if you wanted the Jeep for yourself, this is one way to get one, without breaking the bank.... And you'll always have the personal pride of having fixed it yourself, which is priceless....
I feel your pain. I have been working on rusty Jeeps for years. I bought my 1999 Wrangler TJ with a dead clutch and rotted frame. I replaced repaired all the same things you are dealing with. I can't believe the irony when you couldn't come up with the name of the Jeep radius arm then explained how you were going to remove the stubborn bolt to get you "back on track". Us jeepers call the link a track bar. I still have nightmares of cutting the track bar bolt with a sawzall and having hot rubber bushing bits bouncing off my arms because the bushing sleeve had seized to the bolt. Keep up the good content and embrace the suck of working on old rusty Jeeps. You might want to make sure you are up to date on your Tetnus shot though.
I just went through my front suspension for death wobble on my '06 TJ. I replaced everything including the castle nuts. She drives like new. I've had her since new (13 miles on the odometer when I test drove her).
Jared, I am glad to hear about Dorman making a kit to eliminate the death wobble. I have had cars with the death wobble and I hate it when it happens. Impact wrench with a regular socket, Great example of questionable choices. Classic! I have to change Ball Joints on my 2007 Yukon before we go on vacation in Colorado. Thanks for the quick example of using a ball joint press on the vehicle!
Well that thing was a lot of NO maintenance. I always left my jeeps stock (had 2 tj's and 1 jk) put better tires on them never played with suspension and never had problems with death wobble. Always oil sprayed my jeeps and never had any real rust to worry about and I am in Ottawa Ontario Canada (cars get white here with the salt we use in the winter). Cool build TJ's are great jeeps.
Thanks for this video, while I don't have death wobble, my TJ front suspension is starting to get a little loosey goosey. I try to watch all your videos - including the sponsored segments - because I know how much it helps the channel. Keep up the great work, you're an inspiration...at least you are to me!
You will not fully cure that with all those parts until that track bar gets lowered. A 4 inch lift is right at the point where it starts to impart bump steer and starts the death wobble. Either the frame end needs to come down or the axle end up. It may not wobble after those parts but as soon as any one part gets the slightest wear it will start again.
Just got a 2004 tj for free from my neighbor, it has rust issues but runs great. I am going to be fixing the suspension and rust but the tj is completely unmodified so no hacked up crap to deal with. I am looking forward to fixing this thing up and wheeling it.
I feel your pain. I picked up a $500 2002 Subaru WRX out of a family friend's backyard. It was a "I'm tired of looking at it, I want it gone" type of situation. Flat tires, no brakes, and the previous owner (friend's son) and a buddy "put an engine in it then it didn't want to move, so they gave up." I fired it up in their yard, got it towed to my place, and replaced a whole laundry list of parts to get it to drive. I quickly found out the engine would push through the clutch when you would hit boost. Pulled out the transmission and replaced the fried clutch. Finally took it for some extended drives and everything seemed fine. Went to finally put gas in it, wouldn't take fuel. I replaced the plugged up EVAP canister, it took fuel. I cleaned it up, waxed it, polished the headlights, and the day I was going to put it up for sale, it shattered a plastic timing belt pulley and grenaded the engine. I got a salvage yard engine for it and got it all cleaned up and re-sealed with a fresh timing belt and component kit right as winter set in this past November. I'm about ready to un-bury the engine from the corner of my garage and put it back in the car now that the weather has finally started to turn in my area. It seems like every time I get ahead with this car, something else goes wrong. At this rate, I'm not sure when I'll finally be ready to sell it.
I'm more into old Jags than Jeeps, but I do enjoy this series. One advantage of it being a Jeep vs a Jag is that you don't have to wait 3 weeks to receive parts from UK almost every single time.

Watching you use the fork on the tie rod ends reminded me of doing the same steering rack replacement on my toyota that hardware is usually rusted together so bad you almost have to jump on the damn fork to get it to break loose. I literally lifted the right side of my truck off the ground before it let go and that was after heating it with the torch and applying WD40. Now I enjoy watching you wrench and living vicariously through you :-)

Death wobble is due to worn suspension components on poorly designed suspension systems like 3 link + track bar, the suspension system does not lock down all degrees of movement like a 4 link system does so it permits very slight axle role which throws the caster angle out of wack.
