  • Each year we try to have a single night away for our wedding anniversary so this year for our 43rd anniversary we decided to have a night on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It was cold, wet and windy but that wasn’t going to stop us from having a great time.
    We visit the Myponga Reservoir before we visit places like Rapid Bay, Second Valley, Cape Jervis, Victor Harbor, Strathalbyn, Milang and Goolwa.

    That was a trip down memory lane for me as we went to Victor Harbour in the late 1970s when my kids were young & we crossed over the old bridge & went up the side of the mountain on the cable car. I remember the water was a beautiful colour. So long ago, I was a young mum back then & now I have a four year old great grandchild. That was the year my husband came home for his christmas holidays bundled us all in the car & took off to see SA & we didn't stop until we got to Crystal Brook, stayed three days & visited Quorn, then he said pack up we are going home. That was what he was like, he'd seen all he wanted to see & now we would go home & I would wash our clothes & head north to his parents place six hours drive away so that he would spend a week on the lounge arguing with his father while they watched the cricket. The kids & I were bored silly but he didn't care, he had given us our holiday, now it was his turn. We had a home made campavan with canvas walls & a pop top on a trailer base, very primitive & basic but we were the first to make one & use it & it was better than sleeping by the car on the side of the road with the kids on the back seat.

      Back in the seventies, Granite Island would have been full of kangaroos, we used to take our kids there as well.

    Great video Mick& Sally. I spent a lot of my childhood down on the Fleurieu and now living interstate, it's great to be able to revisit thanks to videos like these on UA-cam (thanks). Many memories including snorkelling at Second Valley. I notice the old boat sheds are no longer there. Great to see the old shacks still remain at Milang. PS: Happy Anniversary!

    Another fantastic video, Wow it's been many years since I went on the Horse drawn cart to Granite Island. can't remember but i reackon 1950's , I had a girl friend , well not really but seen her on the school bus at the Sunlands t/o on her way to H/s in Waikerie I would have been 17 at the time, anyhow her parents moved down to Willunga to an Almond orchard so never seen her again, life goes on .

    Congrats on the anniversary. My wife and I celebrated our 53rd today, October 18th. This area is beautiful and much more green than I ever expected to see in Australia. Most people see your country as being very arid.

      Wow, congratulations to you and the wife on your 53 years together.
      We have a real mix of country her in Australia. We are on our way home from Victoria where the grass was as green as a home lawn and in some places taller that the knees when walking in it. We will have a video up soon showing our trip that way.

    On a clear day when you are on the Bluff you can see down past the Murray Mouth. The causeway is just known as The Causeway, no bridge. Hubby used to do repairs on the horse drawn trams and the odd minor repair to the old causeway as part of a previous job.

    Nearly every time I go to Adelaide I always try to make it a point to go in via Highway 1 and the Fleurieu Peninsula, taking the ferry across at Wellington and going that way through Strathalbyn and Goolwa, love trying to spot some whales at Victor Harbour, and have even gone up the St Vincent's Gulf side into Adelaide. The Fleurieu certainly is diverse in its attractions, and a very pretty drive as compared to the dull get-there-at-all-costs drive through the Adelaide Hills on the freeway in from Murray Bridge. At my age getting there is half the fun, not in a hurry anymore as I've got all the time in the world to see things I missed when I was younger. Love your Videos Mick they are a great inspiration to me to get out and see more of our beautiful country.

    Looks a lovely area to visit. A lot of history things to see which I love. Know very little about South Australia. Long way from Qld. Have only seen two parts. Crossing in from Broken Hill. And three days in Adelaide and wine region. If I ever stop working must spend more time travelling around.

    Congratulations to you both on your anniversary! I'm often put off by what I feel is an inappropriate level of celebrating at weddings. A wedding is only the starting point.

    What was that winch-like thing on the pier @ 9:20? Also, what's the story on the Sacred Ladies & the bridge? Great vid, of course. PS Do you have a vid of Kangaroo Island?

    • @justcruisinwithmicksally837
      @justcruisinwithmicksally837  Рік тому +1

      The crane come winch on the pier was used years ago for unloading and loading when servicing the area. Google for the sacred women's business would be your best option, it was a fabrication of event to do with native history which all proved to be false. I have been to kangaroo Island but not since we started the UA-cam channel.
