The Public Market was built in 1928 by Pedro Cerdán. This is a building of simple lines, the most basic ornamental element being its façade. Around it the weekly street market is held every Tuesday.
The building is located right in the centre of the town, next to the old Workers Instructive Circle and opposite the Duck Park which has been, and still is, a meeting place since the start of the 20th century.

One thing I really enjoy checking out on an off day is an open market. Especially those that offer unusual stuff like antiques and such. Unfortunately, we don't have these here in Maryland. Thanks for the show, Shaun.!

We have a market every day throughout Almanzora valley if that's what you like. My brother in law bought a fake Rolex and it lasted ten years before it stopped working. I have to say a good selection of of everything Shaun.

Hi Shaun I am heading out on the 24th Oct to Cabo Roig ... I want to take Mom out for a ramble while we are there, her mobility is ok...she could do small hills for a mile or so...but not long distances over rough terrain....can you suggest a few places of interest We can drive to ....walk for a little and maybe have lunch or drink close by ....loving the vids and Channel,
Thinking of the mud baths in SAN Pedro...Carrascoy and El. Valle park, Santa Clara monastery and museum Murcia....I just don’t know.....you might be able to advise me or suggest a little gem you have been to ..thanks in advance x Mary

@ I am from Alhama and I agree, Totana has better local market than Alhama. :D P.D. Zacatín in Bullas and 4 Plazas in Mula are greats.

* I think that the 'Migas competition' is an interesting experience (this Friday 11st). You can cook your own Migas, of course!
I use your videos to improve my vocabulary in English. I love your videos because they are like an Antropological view of Spain interesting for me.

- The best visit is in May for the 'Fiesta de Los Mayos', declared of National Tourist Interest, is held on the first weekend of May.
- Guide visit to the medieval Castle s.XI. (Ask in Tourism Office or Los Baños Musseum)
About Alhama:
- Very well localited to visit 'Regional Park Sierra Espuña' or the 'Algeciras reservoir', between Alhama and Librilla.
* There is 4 Alhamas in Spain: Alhama de Almería, Alhama de Aragón, Alhama de Murcia, Alhama de Granada. (This arab name is because of the arab baths= hamman).

Cracking market, seems its got a bit of everything. I'm in agreement with you though, I hate shopping (much to my husbands delight) but it is a necessary evil. I'd rather go to the pub to watch the rugby lol. :-)
