Aging: As you age, the skin and muscles around your eyes lose firmness, allowing fat to move into the lower eyelids.
Allergies: Congestion and inflammation from allergies can cause puffiness. Other allergy symptoms include a stuffy nose, sneezing, or an itchy throat.
Fluid retention: Eating salty foods or not getting enough sleep can cause your body to retain water, leading to puffiness.
Genetics: Under-eye bags can be a physical characteristic that runs in families.
Medical conditions: Some health conditions such as thyroid problems, dermatitis, dermatomyositis, renal disease, and thyroid eye disease can cause puffiness.
Crying: Emotional tears can lead to puffy eyes.
