When I worked for EWS / DB I suggested that they fit a GM power unit into a 60 and upgrade electronics , that was 16 years ago. I understand that is now going to happen. Possibly a GBRF project as they take work away from DB. Rail freight in the UK is not living up to its promise in the late 1990's . Coal nearly gone and some steelworks may shut down to the silly net zero policy and energy costs. I worked on the class 60's from new and find this line of stored locos very sad .
A few years ago. I did mention to EWS that perhaps they could have reached out to GE and fitted the 7FDL16 into the Class 60's and replaced the Brush sepex CPU's with the GE IFD CPUs and AC traction motors. That would have make a UK version of the AC4400 to UK loading gauge and have a max speed of 74mph but could still pull long heavy trains as they would be rated at about 3900hp from the GE 7FDL16. The question is though, would the GE 7FDL16 fit inside a Class 60? I thought I would ask because maybe you could help me out with shining some light on this idea. Thanks, no it was random as I went for one of my occasional walks around depot perimeter. A bloke who sometimes watches locos coming and going from the road bridge in Sandiacre happened to be watching what was happening that day as I parked up and he pointed it out to me so I thought I'd film some of it when I got down Bessel lane as I had my camera.

What they should do is completely restore the stored 60s at Toton, just like they have with 60081.

Have heard some of the class 60 will become class 69s
a good design spoiled by poor traction control system either fix or scrap
