Though fragmentary and water damaged, this 1930s Caribbean travelogue has some interesting content. The film begins with footage of St. Vincent before showing St. George in Grenada at the 1:00 mark. At 1:44 the polishing of cocoa beans for chocolate is shown. At 2:06, the city of Fort-de-France in Martinique including the Hall of Justice (2:40). At 2:48 is Mount St. Benedict in Trinidad. At 3:48 is Tobago and Charlotteville. At 4:38 is Morro Castle in Puerto Rico and views of San Juan. At 5:26 the Spanish Club is shown. At 5:40 shade grown coffee is harvested. At 5:56 Curacao is shown.
Grenada is a sovereign state in the West Indies in the Caribbean Sea at the southern end of the Grenadines island chain. Grenada consists of the island of Grenada itself plus six smaller islands which lie to the north of the main island. It is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Its size is 348.5 square kilometres (134.6 sq mi), and it had an estimated population of 112,200 in July 2018. Its capital is St. George's. Grenada is also known as the "Island of Spice" due to its production of nutmeg and mace crops, of which it is one of the world's largest exporters. The national bird of Grenada is the critically endangered Grenada dove.

God, how I love these old documentaries. Its so nostalgic. I become melancholic as I watch this, but it's more of a yearning for the past than being actually depressed. I believe I would love to have been on just about any of these wonderful Islands during this era. The narrator's voice truly gives this video it's old charm.

    A valuable slice of history.

It is a mixture joy and pain watching these documentaries. I enjoy bygone films but the narrator keeps eluding to the fact that the "natives" are laid back and do not require anything much to enjoy life. No reality of a harsh life of a black islander. No true representation of the social conditions of that era.

What about mentioning how the French and British manipulation and the theft of our Caribbean treasures, helped to make them rich.

are you suggesting that to periscopefilm (which basically "only" preserves old films and publishes them) or to the narrator/producers (who died long ago)?

@@HuntsChris true ...but Britain pretends it's fair and always behaved correctly there is a large collective amnesia about the past...ww1 and ww2 is about it...the chinese haven't forgotten how we treated them in the opium wars..and our treatment of the kenyans was disgusting

because it's not right can you cite examples where this amnesia is evident?

there was cruelty from every side. the difference is that the western world had means to record and preserve their actions. other peoples didn't, thus you can only have plenty of the records of cruelty from one side.
