A few of these sound pretty wild to me, but no stranger than "get your ducks in a row" or "a cock-and-bull story".
"To make a ram into the gardener" is funny to me because in the countryside where I live, it's normal for people to comment on an overgrown lawn by saying "you should buy a goat".
