2:54 I'm not sure if this is the same issue as what I faced however, when I got my rx8 at 40k miles it would make an awful rattling sound at rpms above 6k. It wasn't so much a knocking sound but a terrible rattling sound. I immediately thought the engine was screwed however it started fine hot and had no other issues. I read on an rx8 forum that many people experienced this and it was due to the rx8s not injecting enough oil to lubricate the housing. Rx8s as new as 7k miles were experiencing this. I first gave premixing a shot and within the first top up the car felt entirely different. That sound had gone away immediately and it felt easier to redline. I thought that this was only a temporary fix but 20,000 miles had passed and the car was still running smooth. At 60k I decided to fit a sohn adaptor kit, so that the car wasn't using dirty engine oil. I also kept premixing. Now I'm at around 80k miles and its still got a high compression, high 6s and 7s. Has anyone else experienced a weird rattling sound at high rpm? Its always been a rather strange thing that I never fully looked into.
@@josenieves7654 Honestly I can't say for sure. Its best to check with a rotary specialist but what I will say is that with RX8's there are only really two things that can go wrong with them: 1) loss of compression over time or due to lack of lubrication - add premix with each fill up and you can extend your engine's life. 2)Coolant sealing wearing out causing car to overheat - this only ever happens if you rev you engine or drive hard before it properly warms up. Let your car warm up properly (10 to 15 mins of driving under 4k rpm) before building up revs. Once its warmed up properly you can redline it from time to time. Also never turn your car off if it hasn't ran for at least 5 mins; it needs to warm up before turning off - it not a car that can be started, moved to a different parking space and turned off. Basically all rx8 mods are quality of life mods or reliability mods. However going catless is paramount if you want your renisis to last. Basically what im sayin is you never truly get full throttle until this happens in the 5-6k rpm area then thats where all the power is made im am curious to see if there is a way to tell the ecu atleast in the s2 that vfad no longer needs to utilized and its good to give 100% throttle.

Hey man, loooov your videos! I'm in the market and just looked at one. It started up kinda well and repeadetly so when warm and had no smoke and stuff. But! I did the high rpm and lift off and head a noticable puff. Not a knock, but a puff like opening up a vacuum jar. Is this normal?
I noticed your DSC light flashing. My flashes also. Is that a problem? My traction control light is also lit. Is that a problem? One more thing. How do you get your tire pressure light to stop blinking even though you know the air pressure is good? Thanks for your videos. I followed another one to fix power steering. So far so good. Also, how did you learn all this stuff?
I don't have any of these symptoms. Car cranks but doesn't start and back fired once out the intake. Took it to mazda and said it's the catalytic converter that's all clogged up. Before the engine ran perfectly fine and produced great power.
反骨水 hahahha 😂 well, that's one way to start a party 👌 when I take out he battery, i usually leave it connected to a charger, so it keeps it charged in case I need it :)
Bit of an old video but I could use some input from someone. My FC takes like 2 seconds to start up from cold, my cold start system doesn't work. And for the first like 10-20 minutes of driving the idles surge between 1000 and 1500 rpm. And very rarely on hot starts the engine will stall unless I give it some gas. Other than that it runs good and holds idle at 700ish. From what I've heard this is either a TPS issue or an apex seal issue. Any thoughts? New to rotaries.
How old is the starter motor? If it's older than 5 years, replace it. It would also be good to replace spark plugs if they are older than 3 years. In combination with that, if your coils and wires are older than 4 years, definitely replace them.

Hi guys! I have one idea - what if organise Europe rotary meeting in 2018? Don't have any thought's about location etc. In USA there are such event but I never heard about something like this in Europe. What do you think Chris?
I think it would be an amazing event, i was thinking of organising one, but not yet. Location in Europe is a bit trick. The optimal solution would be Austria or Germany, which is more or less in the middle. We'll see, i'll start small next year in my Country, and slowly expand :)
04 r8 really bad hard cold start and after it starts like3-5 min later with holding idle around 3k car shuts off, and then impossible to start. have to let it sit for few hours . Also temperature gets to 215F within those 3 to 5 min. Any suggestions of where to start looking for the problem?
Joe Joe hot start issues if I’m assuming you’re letting the car get up to temp. If the car is not up to temp and you shut it off early it could be flooded because at 3k it’s dumping fuel. Check coolant because it sounds like it’s also overheating
Have you drifted your RX-8 yet? If yes, then I want to ask something, when I tried to yank the e brake the other day it didn't lock the rear tires, so I had to clutch kick/floor it all the time. I just want to know whether it's only me or it's typical for RX-8. If your stock e brake can lock them, any possibility why mine can't? I've changed the pads and tightened the the e brake too (I made it a bit loose again because it was a bit too tight). You might have an opportunity to do a hydraulic e brake video someday (if yours don't work as well). Cheers :)
Woah sorry for the late answer lol I didn't get any notification (must have missed it). I bleeded mine when I replaced the pads, well that goes without saying :) Should I replace the rear calipers or should I go with hydraulic e brake instead?
The Fury hydro would be useless if the rear calipers are not working properly. So I would fix the rear calipers and try to see how the handbrake works. If it good, there is no need for.a hydro, but if youre gonna drift.it, a hydro can be very practical 😊
Yup, i'll put mine this year. but i can tell you from experience it best to start learning without it, otherwise you'll become too dependent on it :) You're welcome bro!
If the smoke does not go away, and its very thick, then you have to remove the engine, inspect it, and see what's causing the issue. If you dont have a CAT, and you see a small bit of white smoke, its normal.
Probably next year, but i'm gonna wait untill the compression starts dropping below 6.2 bar. I'm also thinking of doing a rx7 engine swap. Currently still talking details to the shop.

Number 11, every time you burn a full tank.. 're build your engine
If u park ur rx8 for too long and disconnected battery as well, once ur started it the lights on dashboard were also gonna flashing like an EDM party🤣
反骨水 hahahha 😂 well, that's one way to start a party 👌 when I take out he battery, i usually leave it connected to a charger, so it keeps it charged in case I need it :)
Driven by madness thats why don't you trust "Long life battery"🤣🤣🤣
反骨水 long life of being empty 😂😂
Driven by madness hahah🤣🤣good one
The rough idle, 700 rpm, and stalls in gear, and misfire, smoke smells like fuel,
Bit of an old video but I could use some input from someone.
@@Drivenbymadness Just bought the car and I don't know much about its history other than its been premixed regularly. I'll start with the plugs and go from there. Thanks
Hey, I’ve seen all your videos about maintenance for the rx8 but nothing really about that goes in depth tutorial about a rx8 that doesn’t have power steering. So I did some research and did all the possibilities that could cause my car to not have (ps) cleaned the thoroughly checked the connections. Nothing seems broken or dirty. Checked the fuse but no power steering still
Best solution is to ask eitherTtexas rotary experts if you're from US, or Essex rotary specialists if you're from Europe :)
Hey brotha what my 05 rx8 reads Anti Theft and will not start. I even change the batteries on the key fob and still not luck. Any suggestions?
Could be a flown fuse. Check the third one from the top in the fusebox underhood - 15 amps, marked 'engine'.
The good old apex seal
I just bought a 05 rx8 and has 101087 miles on it but runs great, has a light on the dash and was told it wont start hot, is that minor?
sounds like compression loss. you probably can still limp it along for another 20k though.
I think with your subscribers it possible to have some additional help) Let us know if you will plan something like this and together we can do it )
biiiiiiiiiiiig thumbs up
OI! Do you have a method to delete the gear change thing beeping? :D
Why would you tho?
@@Awsomeisimo Maybe cause i don't like the sound of it?
@@jgvbadv do you drive it at 8000-9000rpm at all times?
@@Awsomeisimo i drive it only 3-4 times a month and i don't spare it (read i redline it in most of the gears)
@@jgvbadv thought the car didnt mind being redlined occasionally?
04 r8 really bad hard cold start and after it starts like3-5 min later with holding idle around 3k car shuts off, and then impossible to start. have to let it sit for few hours . Also temperature gets to 215F within those 3 to 5 min.
Any suggestions of where to start looking for the problem?
Joe Joe hot start issues if I’m assuming you’re letting the car get up to temp. If the car is not up to temp and you shut it off early it could be flooded because at 3k it’s dumping fuel. Check coolant because it sounds like it’s also overheating
@@ghostpro1293 thx for the info . But I did a compression test and its was pretty bad lol. new motor time
Joe Joe that’s the worst. Sorry to hear but good luck and lmk how it goes!
Do you have shares in essex rotary 🤣 ?
perhaps :P
Have you drifted your RX-8 yet? If yes, then I want to ask something, when I tried to yank the e brake the other day it didn't lock the rear tires, so I had to clutch kick/floor it all the time. I just want to know whether it's only me or it's typical for RX-8.
If your stock e brake can lock them, any possibility why mine can't? I've changed the pads and tightened the the e brake too (I made it a bit loose again because it was a bit too tight).
You might have an opportunity to do a hydraulic e brake video someday (if yours don't work as well).
Cheers :)
Very tipical. That's why i replaced my rear calipers in order to make the e brake actually work. When was the last time your bleeded your brakes ?
Woah sorry for the late answer lol I didn't get any notification (must have missed it).
I bleeded mine when I replaced the pads, well that goes without saying :)
Should I replace the rear calipers or should I go with hydraulic e brake instead?
The Fury hydro would be useless if the rear calipers are not working properly. So I would fix the rear calipers and try to see how the handbrake works. If it good, there is no need for.a hydro, but if youre gonna drift.it, a hydro can be very practical 😊
I'm still a beginner, so I guess hydro e brake can come later.
Thanks :)
Yup, i'll put mine this year. but i can tell you from experience it best to start learning without it, otherwise you'll become too dependent on it :) You're welcome bro!
Nice video 😉
Thanks bro! 😃
What if your CAT is gone will the and the oil smoke continues what then?
If the smoke does not go away, and its very thick, then you have to remove the engine, inspect it, and see what's causing the issue. If you dont have a CAT, and you see a small bit of white smoke, its normal.
great car but rubbish engine
the best rebuild you can do is swap the engine to a 1JZ or a 2JZ
No, the best rebuild is dropping in a 26b.
Which makes 1400hp naturally aspirated, well the Mazda 787b did.
#1, your car still has a Wankel engine.
I have a question 🙋♂️ what’s the highest mileage on a rotary engine without an rebuild???
I've read on rx8club forums that some had over 220k. I'm nearing 200k on my 04, no rebuild
When will you rebuild your engine?
Probably next year, but i'm gonna wait untill the compression starts dropping below 6.2 bar. I'm also thinking of doing a rx7 engine swap. Currently still talking details to the shop.
