Hi Hector! I wanna learn about Bookkeeping. I am good with numbers, I like numbers and I think I'm gonna like bookkeeping. I've seen some of your videos where you explain what a bookkeeper does, where to start etc etc. I am also watching your QBO tutorials so I can create an idea for the job. I am a complete beginner. Hi Hector, I love your videos. You are really good at explaining things to all levels of bookkeepers and accountants. Thank you. I have one question. I have a client for whom I need to start a new QBO file. We are starting a new file for two reasons, one because he has incorporated and needs fresh books and two because the old QBO has unresolvable issues that are too hard to fix. So... I am starting a new file for him, but he's not new to QBO. My main concern is my beginning balances. I was planning to put in a balance sheet and P&L for 2023 by a journal entry. I don't know how to determine owner's equity for 2023. Thanks for your feedback. You rock!
Once you enter all the beginning balances, you send all the differences to retained earnings. Owners equity will be retained earnings eseentially

I find it a little confusing for what I do- it’s there a quick book service only for nonprofit org.?
You might want to find an expert in non profits to guide your through the process.. I am not one
Thank you Hector! We not 100% sold on QB online. The main hesitation is the look and feel of the desktop version vs the online look and feel. Is there a way to make the online interface look the same as the desktop layout?

Great Tutorial for starting/setting up! Thinking of my starting date for transferring my bank data, can I choose a date from last year or is it better to start from this year? Trying to find the best way to consolidate my information from when I started my business mid 2023?
Download all the bank transactions from back then, or enter a journal entry with those total amounts
Hello Hector, Thank you for the video. I have trouble figuring out the date to begin downloading my bank account and credit card. I started my business March 2023 but just now I am trying to do my booking. So do i put the date now and bring in the balance and credit card or do I put from march 2023 and bring in the balance beginning of march?
I think you should start from beginning of your transactio, It would be better and you will enjoy it.
I do would a whole clean year from inception.. so yes from march
We have used Quickbooks for a short time. Very helpful! Do you have tutorial on the Sales Tax Payments applied on invoices and the payments made for sales tax due? I am trying to get that matched up in liabilities with a sub account but it doesn't quite look right. Thank you!

What do you study in the Training Library for just the simple Quickbooks Online Certificate test? (Not the training Material for the ProAdvisor Certificate) Should I just study everything in "Training Library"---> "Quickbooks Online" And save the other 3 sections to study for the pro advisor test?

I just purchased QBO for my personal finances. I plan on buying for my corporation as well. First, I want to start with my personal finances to get to know QBO well. I want to do all my finances from 2018 - to now. My Corporation started in 2020 so I need to start in 2020 for that. Anyway, can I start adding in 2024 stuff while I am putting in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023? or should I do all my 2018 1st and then close each year before I move on to another year. How should go about this?

We are being told that the certified payroll reports that we could run with the QB desktop enterprise version are not available in the online edition. Can you please shed some light on this topic? Thats correct. Not available. You need to stay on Enterprise
It appears that QB is pushing users to move to QB online. After seeing your comment here, would you advise those that process payroll and print payroll forms, remain with QB desktop and not convert to QB online? @@HectorGarciaCPA

Hi Hector. Love your videos. I'm relatively new to quickbooks and pay my employees by direct deposit using quickbooks. Payroll was deducted from the proper bank account, however I didn't notice that the corresponding account was cash. So even though it was paid from the correct account, quickbooks thinks it was cash. Then when the bank transactions are downloaded into quickbooks, it's registered in 2 accounts and all the reports show payroll as double the actual amount. This went on for about 2 months before I figured out the problem. I would like to just delete the transactions from the cash account, but it won't let me. Is there a relatively easy way for me to fix this?
You have to merge cash and the real bank account. Move all the real cash transactions to another account
thank you for the helpful video Hector! Could you talk about the receipts? I got really confused with the workflow of bank feeds and receipts matching. (like bank feeds - receipts - reconcile?) and I am frustrated with the duplicate from receipts creating expense transactions. Thank you!
Thats going to be a different video, its a very complex workflow

Great video. If an operating/subsidiary LLC is owned by a holding company LLC, then would you have to purchase and create two separate QuickBooks Online accounts for the accounting of the respective companies? or could you purchase and use only one QuickBooks Online account for the accounting of both companies?
You need 2 separate subscriptions to keep the books separated.
If you put them on the same file; is going to be very confusing

Are you saying that the Chart of Accounts does not convert over with the starting balances? IE: Bank accounts - that all of those will need to be re-entered once the data is converted from "Desktop" or did I misunderstand something?
No, they all come in with their balances, is when you connect them Again after converting that it enters a weird entry for beginning balance
Hey, quick question. I just closed on transfer of a business that I previously worked for. wondering if I should transferred the owner's desktop QuickBooks to QuickBooks online , in business for 30 years so the client list is huge . Which makes me hesitant to switch .

If its 3 different balance sheets and/or different tax returns, you probably should have 3 separate subscriptions.
But of is 3 lines of business reporting in the same entity, you can use Classes in QBO Plus to manage that

Thank you, but I'm still nervous. A bit familiar with accounting, but I had a controller and an AP/AR clerk, this business has sold recently. Now I'm taking on the family rentals and extremely nervous. Quickbooks came to mind due to its longevity in the industry, but I'm still intimidated. This video hasn't exactly assuaged my fear, but my CPA said in his firm there are people very versed in it. I'm just overwhelmed with the closing of a decent size business, sold to another store, we were profitable, but aging out with technology, I'm 65. I plan on plodding forward with QB and hope that my nervousness is all for naught.....I need prayers.....thanks again.....
