Hey James, did you know: the Shijo-Ohashi is a bridge representative of Kyoto that crosses the Kamo River over Shijo Street. It is also called Gion Bashi
Nice Job! Sometimes the enamel matt varnishes can separate in the pots and they need a proper mixing (like for half an hour) to get it all working again, I have experienced this exact problem on a number of my kits. I tend to use acrylic varnishes now but they come with their own problems where if they are too cold, or again not mixed well enough, they can leave a white residue . . .
Hey James, you should try doing a life size version of that spitfire, perhaps you can conscript some school kids and air cadets to help you.... maybe even model the pilot after yourself? just a thought
Thought I'd make a model to keep me off the drink...... Oh no thats my glass of Chablis !!! Classic, just classic James May does Airfix while completely clattered 👍👍👍
James as usually nailed it. First he smashes all dream build bicycle nonsence and now he demolished all thsoe building-modelling videos with chipping rust for 2 hours straight. Love it
If you have issues with the varnish, just add more and more layers of it. It'll eventually matte out. Though do be sure to mask the canopy to keep it clear. Some cheap wood glue, perhaps thinned with water, should do a fine job and be easy to remove. By the way, next time you travel to Japan (haven't had the opportunity to watch your latest Amazon production yet) try picking up some kits by Tamiya or Hasegawa. They have some exquisite kits you might enjoy as well. Kudos, from a fellow model builder!
I am SO PLEASED you are back, James May, flying the flag for Airfix and model-making, and in such an interesting way. I followed every step of the construction. Thanks, let's have more.
I think this channel should be renamed to JM's employment tube, as mr. May is not unemployed. Car show presenter, our man in Japan, wine enthusiast and cooking guru... that's a lot of work. And yes, we would love to see more videos. Hell, you could read to us the entire history of aviation and we'd still watch it.
The point is he makes video for this channel when he's not employed, not getting paid to do the videos here. Yes the GRMN Yaris unboxing video was indeed when he's employed but we'll gloss over that one.
My goodness James that looks great for brush work. You took me back to my primary school days, some 50 years ago. I can smell the Humbrol paint in my mind. Show me more. 👍🏻😀
Someone get him one of the large LEGO Technic cars and maybe direct him to the promotion video of the Bugatti set (it's almost something like one of his Toy Stories episodes).
Hello mate! Big support here from Sweden, never stop doing stuff together with Jeremy and Richard! I watched your show since I was a kid and was at your Top Gear live show in Stockholm.
the thing is, I would genuinely like James to do a full in-depth series on modelmaking. He made a five-part or more tutorial series on how to make a sheperd's pie, so he can probably make one on a hurricane as well. and I would watch every moment of it.
I just purchased this exact kit to build for this exact reason, imagine my surprise seeing a video of a man I deeply respect tutoring me on how to do it! Well the good news is, that respect is a bit less deep now. I still haven't built the sodding plane either. Got a laugh out of me though so cheers for that.
My first plastic model airplane actually was an Airfix 1/72th scale Spitfire and that was in 1968. I wish I still had it, actually. And since it looked exactly like this one, I didn’t really miss the time lapse photography.
Never heard of the Airfix brand, but from what it looks they have good-quality models. From my own experience all the best kits seem to come from Germany and Japan, which have been a real joy to build.
Fantastic James May has a youtube channel. I remember building those airfix kits as a young boy and teenager loved it. I had all sorts spitfires, hurricanes , BF109. fokker wulf 190, hawker tempest the list goes on. My favourite two models kits as a kid though was the sherman tank i had and RMS Titanic. I honestly got a lot of enjoyment out of it but i have always like tinkering with stuff , love working on my car and my GF car when it needs fixing I've not needed a garage to repair my car in around 8 years just for MOT. Love a bit of DIY two. MR May if you want a decent model kit you can always order them form the tank museum online also it keeps them in business when they have to shut because of covid 19 , i assume you have been there absolutely fantastic museum.
Hahahahaha! James May... thank you bringing a bit of joy to our difficult times in this pandemic. And that was a pretty decent build and paint. I have built many myself. :)
This has reminded me that I have a Vulcan and a Lancaster to finish, a Swordfish; a Wellington; a Beaufighter; and a Harrier to start (and possibly a few others)
I never thought of James May speedrunning something
His name contradicts everything fast.
Yes, what did they do to him in Germany?! 😔😇
Nah he must've read the entire instruction manual and sorted the whole package content and tools
Better than that dream guy
He was speedrunning it under Captainslow%
Wow 1 second speed run, that’s gonna be hard to beat
Nice to see you here
Haigs how are you on every video I watch?
James vs Haigs carrier landing when
fancy seeing you here
try landing james may on a carrier ha!
Wonderful timelapse, truly stunning content. Keep it up James

Hey bim
@Ross Bourne and i hope it never dies
Hey Bim, guess what?
I would love to watch James build something like this step by step.
Watch the assembler! It’s on UA-cam as well.
@@dadsergeantandgardener5319 Thank you i will look for it
@@thegaffer1558 It's actually called The REassembler.
He also built lego with Hammond once
Id like to see someone finish assembling HIM!

Exactly the content I’ve been waiting for! This reminds me of the Air Fix episode of James May’s Toy Stories.
Niko Lavin just watched that a few days ago! lol
Let's build and paint some things together when all this nonsense is behind us! :)
Nice to see you here
@@missionslos8856 I concur. The internet is a small place, afterall

It seems we have a different understanding of the word "complete", Mr. May.

Insanely detailed! Time just flew by!
Nice try Hitler.
My God he finished it so fast, it wasn’t even one frame.
James is secretly a ninja
After 2 years without a new video, James May suddenly uploads a new video. Keep it up Mr May!
I have waited 2 years for this day, the king has returned!
Anyone else disappointed that we didn't actually get to see Mr. May build the thing?
Hey James, you should try doing a life size version of that spitfire, perhaps you can conscript some school kids and air cadets to help you.... maybe even model the pilot after yourself? just a thought
Brilliant idea Glen, I can't believe he's never thought of it before.
Pretty sure he did do a life sized spitfire model.
@@SMunro someone doesn’t get sarcasm 😂
Didn't remember I was a subscriber to this channel. Glad that after 4 years of no content this is what James decided to share with us

bulk of videos here are from 6years ago those things did not exit then.
I'm so glad I've stayed subscribed to this channel all this time. Absolute gems of videos.
So James blacked out on Chablis. And when he came to found he’d built a model air plane
I learned so much from BIM Mays ability to build an Airfix spitfire kit in 1.23 secs . Well done that man .
James May: World record Speed Build.
Barely had time to unzip
My jacket.
I would love to see more of you IN-DEPTH, SUPER DETAILED PROCESS, builds.
Haa! You Tube knobbers, watch this! LOL! Juan
Ere Juan, wotcha doing on here? Should't you be reporting on a broken arrow or flying that 777 of yours betwixt LA & Sydney?
Hey James May, I just want you to know I'm a huge, huge fan of Grand Tour and your the most sensible of the trio.
James has the soul of a modern teenager stuck within a 50+ yo man
Slowly, doing something so quickly the naked eye can't even keep up!?? Truly brilliant man! Thanks for the detailed video.
Hey Bim, great model, please do more! If you reply to this comment I'll be able to lord it over my flatmate for a week
It's been 2 years, but here he is speedrunning airfix. Beautiful.
1940: “Tally Ho!” Taka-taka-taka!
2020: “Everyone, remain in your homes! It’s too dangerous to go outside!”
It's not that it is too dangerous, it's that this will never end if we keep passing the virus back and forth.

Very in depth I love the part where you make the wings really helps
Come on James film the whole process and educate us on the history of the spitfire and airfix.
Watch the Spitfire episode of his series, "Toy Stories". It's what you want and more 😂
She looks glorious! I think that satin finish is perfect! Most matt paints tend to develop a gloss with age.
so perfect
So beautifully badly made
A nice surprise to see another video from this high quality, highly regarded channel.
Is this some grand tour challenge,he usually post stuff like this on drivetribe but if not then I'm really glad he post it on here
Hi James, of course we would like to see more. Whilst lockdown i build a WW1 fighter with my son. Happy days and a flashback to my youth...

That’s just the starter sets.
This is the most James May video ever and it’s beautiful

Yes, James. I'd like to see you enjoy your old hobby of building model aeroplanes!!
Looks awesome! The satin finish is actually fairly accurate. They used to wax and polish them.
Have built dozens of airfix kits over the years. A great hobby.
Remember the AIRFIX magazine? Glueing the canopy on before you paint the pilot is another thing that comes to mind.
Gee thanks James, model-airplane-putting-together blue balls is just what I needed today
James May is such a master at construction that the pieces fall out of the box pre-assembled and painted.
